Hanging out with Jimi Hendrix, 1964-1970

I made a mistake. A large chunk of the body is at Experience Music. Last time I was there, it was in the same case as Janis Joplin's pink boa from the cover of "Pearl."

Hendrix threw the other pieces of the Strat into the crowd.

Today I am 67 yrs. old and have 21 classic guitars in my personal collection such as 63 Strat Sunbrst. , 64 Gibson Firebird III , 76 Gibson Firebird Bi-Cent. 54 Tele Butterschtch ,59 Gibson Les Paul deluxe , 68 Mosrite Joe Maphis Dbl.neck , Gretsch G5810 Bo Diddley , PRS Santana , PRS Santana II , Re-make of SRV’s No. 1 Wife Strat , and More not including the Accoustics . I still play every day . I have a Digitech GNX4 that allows me to do sound over , with a programable drum section and 8 tracks of recording with all types of built in effects and amp modeling . I can put Lead and rythym guitar , Bass , keyboards , drums and vocals all into one recording on this device all by myself and master it on my computer . My dear FR friend ,,, I am having a ball and I can still rock with the best of them today . Now days I encourage all young folks to learn how to play an instrument . When I was about 17 I remember Ed Sullivan asking Mick Jagger on his show , “ do you think you will be doing this when you reach the age of 50 ?” ,,, Mick replied ,, “Yeah ,, Why not” ,, the rest is history . With an instrument you can play , you will never get bored . I’m living proof ,, Rock on !!!

Holy Moses, now that's a collection!

I started playing @ 13, and it's been off to the races ever since. I've never owned any classics, but I've owned a ton of nice guitars I wish I still had, including a Rickenbacker 325, a Gibson ES-335, and a mid-70s Strat I bought cheap off a guy because he needed coke money. Nowadays I play leads for a classic rock band using a Gibson Les Paul, a Fender Tele (mexi), and a Gretsch 3155, all out of a Vox AC-15 by way of an Ibanez Tube Screamer. I've also become a pretty good banjo, mandolin, and bass player.

Rock on indeed, man - there's nothing like it. Best thing you can do with your pants on.

Besides loving Jimi’s sound I used to admire Alvin Lee’s ability . I believe he played a Gib. 335 ,, I’ve never owned one but I continue to look for an older one in good shape as I do like their distinct sound . A red one would suit me just fine . Kudos to you for venturing out to other instruments as I have also ,,, What a gas !!!

I saw Jimi at least once with the original formation with Mitch Mitchell etc,
Was at the Fillmore East NYC. Jimi was stoned to the max in a swishy way with limp wristed mannerisms (sorry to disappoint) I think the powerful hallucinogenics must have done it. Just guessing here. At least three times during the show he played the big riff off of “Sunshine of Your Love” Cream which was very big exactly then

He was seriously wasted but put out better music by 100x what you have today

Saw him another time with Band of Gypsies and Buddy Miles dominated. They played some song “They Don’t Know” Buddy looked like an ex-con gave off that vibe. Same ex-con vibe when I saw Wilson Picket circa 1983. No horns. Zero horns! But had two keyboard players and his six backup men gave off that ex-con vibe. Great show of course! Same as Neil Young sang that “Welfare Mothers Make Better Lovers” Perhaps they did back then for Neil for this Reagan Era tune of his
