I use two browsers, IE and Firefox. Lately, neither works properly with Free Republic. If I am using Firefox, when I use the down arrow to scroll down the FR page, it simply jumps to the bottom. It will not scroll unless I put the mouse arrow on the right hand up/down control and then carefully drag the text down. With IE, whenever I try to post anything to FR on any topic, I get an error message that this cannot be done and that my post has been rejected. However, if I restart FR, the post appears as usual.
Can anyone help with this? Thanks.
Your problem ain’t nuttin’ compared to mine. Mac switched off MobileMe, and switched to ICloud on the 1st. A friend told me I didn’t need either, as my mail was a free mac.com account, through Roadrunner, and Time Warner. Woke up on the first to my computer asking for my email password. My bad! I created the account in ‘97, and have never had a problem, and,,,, have forgotten the password. TW said I had a “software” problem. Yeah! I can’t remember the password. Plenty of ways to change your password, but they’ll only send the password to your existing account. Mine won’t receive or send anything without a password! Catch 22!
If you are unable to scroll vertically or horizontally using the arrow keys on your keyboard, you may have accidentally enabled Caret Browsing. (F7)

I’ll check both of those out, thanks, Tom!
I now feel your pain...
Sometimes they really are out to getcha.
Is it a microsoft mouse?
SmokingJoe ~ Say, how many security updates have the Microsoft devices like the Microsoft computer mouse or keyboard or the XBOX 360 ever had (bear in mind that Microsoft has been one of the top computer mouse makers on the planet for DECADES).
Just askin'...
I still have my mid-80s IBM MicroChannel PS2/50 with 2 floppy HDs, 256k mem and IBM CRT Monitor, down the basement. It’s a frigging computer hardware & software museum, down there. I think the 9600baud modem is still there, too.
If so, it might be dirty. A dirty laser mouse can show problems like you've described.
You can clean the pads on the bottom of the mouse, and clean the laser itself with a q-tip dipped in some rubbing alcohol.
If the pads are really dirty, you might scrape them with a fingernail.
I use the mi, not sure who makes it.
I somehow started using mi (I think my husband had bought it for me) and once I get used to something, I stick with it because I hate change.
Been using Opera now for ‘nigh on 10 years now (or longer: started with it on Unix back in version 5 of the browser). Works well nearly everywhere. Some banks check your browser to make sure you are only using what they “support”, but this can be overriden, if desired. (On sites like this I tend to use FF. I won’t use Chrome due to who it comes from...)
On most sites, Opera renders the page faster, and more correctly and reliabley than other browsers, especially compared to IE. However, some Javascript doesn’t work well, mostly due to poorly written Javascript code.
I also use the email client. It is very different from other email clients, but once you get used to it, you won’t go back. I have never lost an email using Opera.
Micro Innovation makes the mi mouse.
Ha!
Now that you mention it, I think my cat did that one time while stomping or sleeping on my keyboard. Drove me nuts until I figured it out!
Don't know anything about that....what do you know?
As a browser, it seems to work very well. Mozilla seemed to lock up my computer a lot.
