Hubble Telescope Spies Fifth Moon Around Pluto

LOS ANGELES (AP) — There’s something lurking around distant and icy dwarf planet Pluto: a fifth moon.

A team of scientists using the Hubble Space Telescope said Wednesday they have discovered the tiniest moon yet around Pluto. That brings the number of known moons to five.

The mini-moon is estimated to be 6 to 15 miles across, smaller than the one that scientists spotted last year, which is 8 to 21 miles wide. Pluto’s largest moon, Charon, is about 650 miles across.

Until the newly found moon gets a name, it will be known as P5.

I personally think that at least one or two of them may be transient moons.

Did they find any moons around Uranus?

New Horizons is 8.77 AU from Pluto now.

22.63 AU from earth (About 3 hours and 8 light minutes)

Did Hubble have to don reading glasses?

They’ll probably name the moon after some faggot - - seems to be the fashion of the day.

To avert that fate, I suggest the name “Keith.”

That’s no moon. It’s a space station!

Thanks for the ping! Hubble continues to produce amazing images. So sad it will be allowed to die.

It’s dying because of the euthanasia of the STS and more generally the US space program. And I agree, wholeheartedly.

I watched the entire “When We Left Earth” six-part miniseries last week. Back when we had a national will, it was inspiring, especially as expressed through the space program.

I agree. Just like the Voyagers, Hubble should be kept operating as long as it can.

Just another entry on my long, long list why the bunch in Washington has to go.
