CrossFit Games 2012 (Vanity/Chat Thread)
CrossFit Games 2012 ^ | 14JUL12 | FSE

I know there are a few FReeper CrossFitters out there. Anyone watching the Games this weekend?

I'm totally blown away by Julie Foucher and Rich Froning (of course). I'm totally shocked by how poorly Dan Bailey and Ben Smith are doing after being hyped up for the entire season leading to the Games.

What say you?

I swear I'm doing burpees and pull-ups while watching this on ESPN 3.

I fill the tub with water, get in, pull the plug and fight the current.

Mrs. 1forAll is totally into crossfitting and currently developing her oly lifting skillset. She and some girls from her crossfit gym went to LA to watch the games live.

Its been interesting to see it developing into a “maintstream” sport with some major sponsors getting in behind it now.

Annie Thorisdottir is currently in third place, only 5 points shy of first place. Foucher is only one point ahead of Annie, too. The women’s individual is a very tight three-way race right now.

It’s not nearly as tight in the men’s individual. Froning isn’t quite running away with it, but he’s got a decent lead.

Crossfit is a cult that is a terrible workout philosophy and dangerous and leads to overtraining. It’s one thing for a challenge here and there but for a long term workout program it’s incredibly bad and the people involved are misinformed cultists

Very cool, I wish I could be there; it looks like a lot of fun.

We had a girl from our box go to the regionals in Mass., but she got cut before the final workout.

I’m really new to CrossFit myself—just started in February—but I’m totally hooked. The Army is gradually adopting it (unofficially) as a fitness program, too.

As far as fitness goes, I think it is the most efficient.

If I were into it I would consider getting certified and paying the xfit annual membership and opening a gym myself. Its far from peaking and the popularity is exploding.

Neal Maddox is getting killed on the rope climb. He’s been no-repped several times now.

Same here. I still have a while before I can entertain such notions, but maybe it’ll still be real big in a few years.

Khalipa is a beast. I know he has troubles on the runs[1 mile]. I dunno if they are having any like that one from a few years ago.

They had a full-on triathlon that ended with an 11km run at Camp Pendleton on Wednesday. Then, yesterday, there was an event that required three rounds of 400m runs. Khalipa was sucking pretty hard on those, but, as a terrible runner myself, I feel his pain.

Annie T. (last year’s Fittest Woman) just took overall first place due to her performance on the clean ladder!

Two women completed the ladder (235 lb) and added extra deadlifts for the hundredths of a point.

Neal Maddox won the men’s individual clean ladder. Froning placed 5th (I think) and has further extended his lead.

Orlando Trejo was pretty impressive given his small size.

Tonight’s “Mystery WOD” has been revealed. Basically a lot of lifts (overhead squats, power cleans, thrusters), some box jumps, toes-to-bar, then burpee-to-muscle-ups. Then they have to back through the circuit backwards. Ten reps of each exercise.

Ouch.

lol...that’s Kristen Clever. I didn’t know what to think of her until I watched the SEALFit series on YouTube. She is pretty badass. Also, she was the 2010 women’s champ.

You can watch the competition by heat or recap on the CrossFit YouTube channel. They put the events up on their channel fairly quickly.

Rich Froning won the Chipper event, the "secret" event from last night. He now has a 90-point lead over the 2nd place guy, Matt Chan.

Annie Thorisdottir is currently in the lead in the women's individual competition. She has about a 50-point lead over 2nd place Julie Foucher.

Today's the final day, here's the schedule:

Spectator Stream, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Pacific)

ESPN 3 Stream, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Pacific)

There are still four events left to go for the competition, and they are all "TBA". The athletes won't know what the workout is until just prior to the event.

There has never been a repeat champion in the CrossFit Games, and right now, both the 2011 Games champions are winning. Can't wait to see what happens!

How about Rich Froning? That guy is such a tank. I couldn’t believe his performance in those last events.
