IMHO the greatest rock keyboardist ever...he defined DP's sound even more than Blackmore.

As my 22 year old son put it, this really sucks. Listen to Lord play Lazy and you can hear the genius.

I had the privilege of seeing them in concert just once, but what a show! Blackmore, Lord, Paice, Glover, and Gillian back in the 80’s, after Blackmore dissolved Rainbow. Lord rocking the keyboards back and forth...

May he Rest in Peace. He was a hugely talented musician, and a very likeable and eloquent fellow.

Mr. Lord was in many ways the glue that held together the monumental talents with the monumental egos and eppetites that made Deep Purple what it was

Peacemaker, mediator and taskmaster to the volatile combination of Blackmore and Gillan.

Coach to Glover and Paice, always bringing out their best

Composer, Symphony class musician, he always took Purple beyond “Metal” and “Progressive” labels, and just plain made them Deep Purple. They were in a class by themselves and he brought that class to them.

RIP Sir. Lazy will be played in your Honor

One of the most important keyboard players and musicians in modern history.

Here is a song where he displays the subtle beauty of his piano and Glen Hughes amazing vocals.

I can’t tell you how many times me and the boys piled into the car, cruisin’ around blasting Made in Japan with the windows down! Every party night (and there were many) began the same way, (Lord’s hammond doing a little trill...then Gillan’s voice “Whew...a song called ‘Highway Star’...”...enter Blackmore...Paice/Glover...”Nobody gonna take my car, I’m gonna break the speed of sound...nobody gonna take my car...till I race it to the ground...”

Good-bye, Jon...Fade further into the distance, youth...
