Physical assault by McDonald's for wearing Digital Eye Glass
Dr Steve Mann's blog ^ | July 16, 2012 | Steve Mann

Digital Eye Glass I believe that Digital Eye Glass will ultimately replace glasses, and will help many people see better, and improve the quality of their lives through Augmediated Reality.

Personal introduction I wear a computer vision system, and carry a letter from my family physician, as well as documentation on this system when I travel.

I have worn a computer vision system of some kind for 34 years, and am the inventor of the technology that I wear and use in my day-to-day life.

Although it has varied over the last 34 years, I have worn the present embodiment of this system (pictured below) for 13 years. This simple design which I did in collaboration with designer Chris Aimone, consists of a sleek strip of aluminum that runs across the forehead, with two silicone nose pads. It holds an EyeTap device (computer-controlled laser light source that causes the eye itself to function as if it were both a camera and display, in effect) in front of my right eye. It also gives the wearer the appearance of having a "glass eye", this phenomenon being known as the "glass eye" effect (Presence Connect, 2002). Over the years the EyeTap has also therefore been known as the "Glass Eye" or "Eye Glass", or "Digital Eye Glass", using the word "Glass" in its singular form, rather than its plural form "Glasses" (See figure caption, "EyeTap digital eye glass", Aaron Harris/Canadian Press, Monday Dec. 22, 2003).

Recent news has described me as "the father of wearable computing" in the context of various commercially manufactured versions of similar eye glass, such as those made by companies like Google, Olympus, and the like (see below), so as this technology becomes mainstream, McDonald's might need to get used to

I found this interesting that a McDonald's in Paris would physically assault an individual even after receiving and reviewing a doctor's note explaining the medical device. Apparently this is an attempt to prevent recording.

Article is excerpted due to the large number of pictures and lenght of text.

Disclaimer to the blog police - this is not my blog and I thought the posting might prompt an interesting discussion.

The Paris police would not press charges? Good grief. That’s appalling.

He probably had star trek in mind when he designed and invented it.

The victim is not a muslim.

I saw a moon worshiper punch a head scarf wearing women in the face in a Paris McDonald's in 94 or 95. No one blinked.

I remember reading a short, sci-fi story about glass you wear that augment reality. In the story the glasses were designed to filter out anything that wasn’t politically correct.

As my dad discovered when he was in the service, the French police do not "see" crimes committed by French citizens against foriegn nationals. The same goes for Greek police, and probably most continental police forces.

Good luck to this guy trying to get anything done about it. Also, is it wise to have something permanently attached to your head? If somebody REALLY wanted to get it loose they could, and the injury could be gruesome depending on how the widget is attached. I can also imagine a scenario where the widget could snag on something and entrap the head or worse (getting your permanently attached Geordi LaForge accessory caught on vehicle lift would really ruin your day). There should be some kind of safety disconnect.

Wow, I guess that I have been fed a lie from the MSM and believed that France was more gallant than they really are.

and BTW, the victim should contact the president of the McDonald’s corporation with the information he has in his letter. I cannot believe they would not provide compensation for his damaged property.

If you look closely at the photos he posted, the veiled invasion extends well beyond the ZUS (751 no-go zones)and has deeply penetrated the tourist traps like this McDonalds on the Champs Elysees, Paris, France.

Also note the following:

"He angrily grabbed my eyeglass, and tried to pull it off my head. The eyeglass is permanently attached and does not come off my skull without special tools."
The potential for physical damage could have been far worse and makes me sick to my stomach that this act goes unpunished . . . the perpetrator of this assault should be behind bars.

He should send a write-up, with unredacted photos, to McDonald’s corporate.

McDonald’s “food” in Paris? In PARIS?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nuken Futs?!!!!

But seriously, processed in “food” plants stuff masquerading as food should be avoided by evolved.

And ever noticed, that “food” you unwrap, never ever looks like the photographs on the menu? Need another clue...

The employees didn’t want that evidence recorded at any cost.

Kind of gives new meaning to a phrase:

“It’s a big sh..t sandwich, and we all have to take a bite from it” S. Kubrick “Full Metal Jacket”

Odd - you'd think that the McDonald's menu was a top-secret document from these reactions to people with camera phones and, apparently, eyewear that has a "spy camera" appearance. What, are they afraid someone will deduce that the "Special Sauce" is Thousand Island Dressing?

Makes no sense. Unless this is just excuse for harassing tourists.

It seems to me that since each eatery is a "franchise" he could find the owner of that particular franchise by looking into the franchise licensees for the company.

@ McDonald's Names Bulgarian Franchisees

If it's good in Bulgaria isn't it good in France?

If they hadn’t castrated the space program starting in the 70’s there would probably be a McDonalds on the moon by now. The time back in the 90’s when I saw the one on the Champs Elysee in Paris (you know, the street they lined with trees because Germans prefer to march in the shade) there were always people lined up at the counter.
