A couple of students have started to camp out in tents and watch over the Joe Paterno statue at Penn State. The sign says "Protect the Paterno statue"

What a truly noble cause.
They should just turn it around so it’s looking the other way.
If they don’t melt it down, then they should replace the plaque that says “Coach, Educator, Humanitarian,” with one that says “Use this finger to dial 911 if you suspect child sexual abuse.”
Distinguished scholars deserve to have their statues protected!
What a bunch of jerks!! Protecting a statue of an evil enabler of a pedophile!! Schmucks all!!
What a true waste of time.
Hopefully a couple dozen decent students will show up and smash it to pieces. How football is more important than protecting children is beyond comprehension to me.
Penn State...Happy Valley...those stupid “PSU is the best school in the world” smiles. PSU is a cult.
I say that despite the fact I was offered a full scholarship there in the late 60’s.
A very good friend of mine is a PSU grad in journalism. Truth be told she’s not that good.
She bleeds blue and white. Her Christmas decorations are blue and white. She sends money to PSU even though she doesn’t really earn all that much. PSU comes first. It is a cult.
Arrogant and deluded... it’s the Penn State Way!
I appreciate the accomplishments of Paterno and the Penn State football program.
But at this juncture it is in bad form to allow a statue of this man who did nothing to deal with a predator in his midst.
Even if he didn’t turn him in, he certainly should have turned him out.
Occupy Wall Street mentality. Stupid, arrogant, commie, socialist Marxist, freeloading fools.
The statue’s getting more campus protection than any given minor boy who’s been inside a locker room
Let it stand, as a symbol of the very worst in mankind. Anyone, who is so delusional about the tiny power and prestige they hold, who would allow the destruction of so many children, deserves the shunning of all mankind. *(*(&%^^!
Well put. Personally I hope a few of the victims show up and find out just how dedicated these idiots are.
You all may all think this strange, but I never heard of Joe Paterno before this scandal hit the news.
Therefore, I find it very odd anyone would want to defend his statue.
Why the statue of Paterno needs to come down: (1)Paterno never once confronted Sandusky personally about what he (Paterno) knew to be fact, (2) Paterno never told Sandusky to vacate the office down the hall from his own (how could he stand to see Sandusky on an almost daily basis and then go home and sleep at night?), (3) Paterno never told Sandusky to give him his keys to all PSU facilities, (4) Paterno never went to the Child Welfare authorities even though he could have even after allegedly telling his superiors what he knew, (5) Paterno never told McQueary to do likewise after McQueary told him what he saw even though there was nothing stopping him from doing so, and, (6)Paterno never made any effort to warn the staff at Sandusky’s Second Mile charity about what he knew thus enabling Sandusky to continue to use the charity as an unlimited supply of young and innocent victims.
Until PSU exercises every option at its disposal to cleanse itself of the scourge that has been inflicted upon it by men that worshiped at the altar of football by sacrificing young boys to the pervert, PSU will forever more stand for Pedophile Sanctuary University. At this time the leadership of PSU are hesitating about what to do with the statue. They just don’t get it, and should all be removed from their positions.
When Penn State goes on the road this season, it’s going to be brutal. Opposing fans won’t let them hear the end of it.
There was footage last night on the local Fox News report of a banner-towing aircraft flying over the school, and the banner said something to the effect of “Take down the statue or we will.”
You so have a point there!!!
Perfect example of a cult state of mind. The Penn State football program degenerated into a cult and Sandusky and his enablers were the result.
“They should melt it down.”
If they want it so darned bad, they should leave it up, but turn it around, representing turning his back on children being abused. That was a great idea I read on website comments elsewhere.
I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until the Freeh report. And I still can’t believe that he denied a great deal up to the week that he died.
It’s not my affair, but I think it’s going to go.
These dumb kids will be dragged away by the Pennsylvania State Police.
They sound like a bunch of OWSers.
