Joe Paterno statue taken down
ESPN ^ | 7/22/2012 | Don Van Natta Jr.

The Joe Paterno statue was removed Sunday morning from its pedestal outside Beaver Stadium, and it will be stored in an unnamed "secure location," Penn State president Rodney Erickson announced. Erickson also said the Paterno name will remain on the university's library.

Shortly before dawn in State College, Pa., a work crew installed chain-link fences to barricade access to Porter Road outside Beaver Stadium and covered the fence with a blue tarp.

The work crew then removed the 7-foot, 900-pound bronze statue by forklift and placed it into the lower level of the stadium. Erickson released his highly sensitive decision to the public at 7 a.m. ET Sunday.

Workers lifted the 7-foot-tall statue off its base and used a forklift to move it into Beaver Stadium as the 100 to 150 students watched, some chanting, "We are Penn State."

The decision came 10 days after a scathing report by former FBI director Louis J. Freeh found that Paterno, with three other top Penn State administrators, had concealed allegations of child sexual abuse made against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. The Freeh report concluded their motive was to shield the university and its football program from negative publicity.

This is a great message to send to the American people. We will not honor those without the principles to protect the innocent. Cowards of this magnitude deserve no honor!

This is why you should never put up a statue of a then-living person.

Knowing Pedo State, they’ll probably replace it with a statue of an anatomically-correct pre-teen boy.

I feel the same way about naming Navy ships. I would make an exception for Ronald Reagan as he was seriously ill and could not defend himself or actively promote anything.

“Erickson’s decision comes at an especially sensitive time for the university. Trustees and administrators are the subject of an NCAA investigation, and several trustees have said that if the statue remained it could weigh as a negative symbol in the NCAA’s discussions on a punishment for the football program.”

It’s still all about football and money!!!

The media has downplayed the homosexuality angle of this story, and of other cases such as the Catholic priests.

I was banned from another site, when I commented at how sickening homosexual rape is, and that Sandusky committed homosexual rape. I was flamed by other commenters, saying that child abuse is bad, no matter the gender of the perpetrator or the victim, etc. Then I was kicked off the site.

Hopefully here, we’re allowed to call a spade a spade. Sandusky committed unspeakable homosexual crimes against boys.

Due to the liberal bent of the media, you will never hear this case spoken of as a case of homosexual child abuse. The media only presents a “gay” image of homosexuality, and will never report anything that reflects badly on that community.

The majority of Catholic priests cases of child abuse were against boys and young men, but the media always talked of that scandal as child abuse in general terms, without ever specifying who the victims were.

In this media, we can air unsubstantiated reports that a mass shooter allegedly is tied to the Tea Party, but you cannot tie a child rapist to homosexuality.

Actions like this bring hope that the tide can turn. Two verses come to mind.

Jam 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

Rom 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to [His] purpose

Amazing how the Paterno family has found a sudden passion for serving the victims and community by uncovering the full truth.

Maybe they can help find Nicole Brown-Simpson's real killer while they're at it.

I remember (I think it was back in the 1980s) when there was talk of Paterno retiring. He ended the talk by saying “I don’t want to leave college football to the likes of people like Barry Switzer”. Or something close to that. All I can say is how ironic!!

Spare me the sob story

That's okay -- go ahead -- rush to judgment.

It's not like any indictment or report by Louis Freeh or a government commission or a state prosecutor was ever wrong.

So then by your estimation, Paterno must have been the dumbest man alive if he didn’t know what was going on among his own staff? Rrrrriiiiiigggghhhhtttttt.

As I said before, spare me.
