NCAA: 'Punitive measures' await (against Penn State - worse than 'death penalty')
ESPM ^ | July 22, 2012

NCAA president Mark Emmert has decided to punish Penn State with severe penalties likely to include a significant loss of scholarships and loss of multiple bowls, a source close to the decision told ESPN's Joe Schad on Sunday morning.

But Penn State will not receive the so-called "death penalty" that would have suspended the program for at least one year, the source said.

The penalties, however, are considered to be so harsh that the death penalty may have been preferable, the source said.

The NCAA will announce "corrective and punitive measures" for Penn State on Monday morning, it said in a statement Sunday. Emmert will reveal the sanctions at 9 a.m. ET in Indianapolis at the organization's headquarters along with Ed Ray, the chairman of the NCAA's executive committee and Oregon State's president, the news release said.

The failures at PSU, including those of Paterno are egregious, and sanctions are in order. But what really pi$$es me off with all the holier-than-thou frauds calling for the virtual nuking of Happy Valley from Potters Mills to Bellefonte is their SELECTIVE outrage.

In the length of time that 10+ young boys were being molested by Sandusky, MULTIPLE MILLIONS of helpless, innocent unborn infants were SLAUGHTERED wholesale, with not so much as a peep of protest by the new athletics clergy. A corrolary to that is the SCREAMING OUTRAGE by some against the cruelty to DOGS; but at the same time, only the sound of crickets in response to the SLAUGHTER of helpless human babies!

Sandusky’s activities were atrocious, and should be and are being punished severely. But those abused boys had YEARS of opportunities in which to report what was going on. They had legs to run on and air in their lungs with which to scream bloody murder....but they didn’t. The MILLIONS of butchered babies could not speak out or run away. But who gives a crap about THEM?

Therefore, I’ll consider most of it a phoney crock until I see some sense of PROPORTION from the new, self-appointed Athletic Clergy.

I seem to remember Penn state's president declaring his goal was to make Happy Valley the most gay friendly campus in the nation

It seems he didn't have much work to do

I wonder if that is in part why this was allowed to go on and on?

“the most gay friendly campus in the nation”

.

Send everyone at the school who was associated with the cover-up of the raping homo-pederast to hard time prison.

That way they can experience first hand what it is like to play pitch and catch with someone more physically powerful.

I am curious about the rest of the school. Will there still be this enormous effort to be “the most gay friendly campus in America?”

There is a lot of it going on; especially lesbian sexual coercion by coaches on female athletes.

College students are adults who are free to consent or decline any sexual activity, even coerced lesbianism.

If Emmert for a ahead with this, Penn State will get an injunction and sue the NCAA, and win.

Good luck with that.
The courts rarely if ever go against the NCAA..

Hmmm. I thought he was saying “Use this finger to dial 911 if you suspect child sexual abuse.”

Or “Hey little boy...pull Uncle Joe’s finger.”

Kill all PSU sports (male and female) for 10 years. Let the students transfer without prejudice. Fire all coaches and staffs. Let PSU reapply for reinstatement, one sport per year, after 10 years.

Sports must die at PSU to kill the cash cow that enables all of this sick behavior. Use PSU as an example and make them financially bleed. Only that will get their attention and accomplish change. [And, the victims should sue those who knew, the university board of regents, and PSU into oblivion.]

The only thing I would add to that is the victims and their parents get to bulldoze the stadium and locker room.

The courts rarely if ever go against the NCAA.

Jerry Tarkanian and Rick Neuhiesal kicked its but in litigation. Emmert was the President of the University of Washington when the school and the NCAA lost big to him. In fact, the NCAA loses much more often than when it wins.

To think Penn State would not win in a law suit is naive, especially when this type of situation is not covered by any NCAA rule. Do you really think Penn State will accept any severe punishment that would destroy its entire athletic department?

What makes anybody think the same thing wouldn’t have happened at most FB power schools

All organizations try and cover up scandals from big business to the schools to the churches and on and on

Punishing PA State will send a warning for the near term but memories are short

Recruiting athletes for Penn State has to be one of the toughest jobs in the country right now.

The rumors on the Internet are saying Penn State won't appeal the NCAA's decision. We'll see.

Are you claiming that a coach who controls playing time should be able to coerce a woman into a lesbian relationship in exchange for playing time?

I know of at least four female women's coaches who were fired for having sex with players; along with substantial monetary awards to the victims.

If that is the case, the sanctions will be minor. Maybe a few scholarships and a post-season ban for one year; like Penn State is going to qualify for a bowl this next season in the first place.

There’s plenty of disgusting writings in this vein. It is a shame to the English language (or any other language) that it was used for such a purpose. Of course then the flaming paraders holler “oh, that’s not us!” on their way to their internet and personal trysts with all ages.

Will Ped State even be viewed as a desired team to be on by the new crop of high school athletes?

From what I have read, recruiting has been pretty good. Doesn’t hurt that the new coach was a top-notch NFL assistant with great character (supposedly).
