sumpsimus [suhmp-suh-muhs]

1. adherence to or persistence in using a strictly correct term, holding to a precise practice, etc., as a rejection of an erroneous but more common form ( opposed to mumpsimus).
2. a person who is obstinate or zealous about such strict correctness ( opposed to mumpsimus).
[1520–30; from a story, which perhaps originated with Erasmus, of an illiterate priest who said mumpsimus rather than sūmpsimus (1st plural perfect indicative of Latin sūmere to pick up; see consume) while reciting the liturgy, and refused to change the word when corrected]
I might have missed this thread as I was otherwise occupied rereading The Raven. I wish I could write like that. I dunno, I guess I'm just a Poetaster.
Thinking about Washington and the mainstream media; I worried about a bad case of sumpsinus coming, but I blew my nose in the newspaper, threw it away too, and felt much better and clear headed.

First thing that came to mind about the word of the day...our illustrious “spelling police”. Couldn’t they be said to be sumpsimous? Seems like a good fit.

I think a bit more sumpsimus
Might not be all that bad-
Maybe driveby media would use
Any grammar lessons they’d had
They can barely even articulate
Correctly on any story-
In this climate it puts them
In instant lawsuit territory
While speaking out in ignorance
Is certainly not a crime
Nor is being fired for it-
And it happens all the time
Scanner was $&@?ing broken! Had to call desk at ritz Carlton to ask for an engineer bc I cannot open the ()$&@-ing suitcase. I actually called guest services and asked for a “sharp instrument” to tear it open. There’s a tjmaxx here so I know I can buy a replacement inexpensively. Xshub is at a meeting and I’m not waiting around for him. The frustrations of the day have added up! I’m ready to relax and be on vaca.
Is there no pool? I would have had my suit on and been lounging with a drink in my hand. Once the suitcase was open that is.
I haven’t been able to go to the pool yet bc am waiting for the kids room to be ready and the bellman to bring me the key to their room.
Very nice digs. And that answers my next question. Kids are w/you. Have a great vacation and stay off FR and Twitter! Only way to really relax.
I have the iPad and iPhone with me, I can relax fine with them.

Sorry for the difficulties. My wife and I were on max stress when we got to Orlando. Getting there is waaay more than half the battle.
I found things in pretty good shape when I got to the site today.
This is a strange country. A Brit colony until 62, it shows the influence. It’s not really “Latin America” cause English is the language. But whites make up less than 2 percent of the population.
Most are African or (Asian) Indian and speak amongst themselves in a English creole that is mostly unintelligble. It’s like you walked in on your teens talking slang.
My colleague, who has spent a lot of time here just took me to the local. We had some beers and shot pool. It was fun, but my understanding of the locals is about 10 percent.
Good you are with someone else or it might be a drag. Sounds interesting something like Bermuda. Also English colony. There were lots of Russian émigrés working as waiter/waitresses. The pool water and ocean are warm as bath water here, feels sooo good.
The thing that gets me is the sun difference. It’s 6:30 and dusk is starting.

LOL I had to check out of Twitter and FR after that SCOTUS decision. Needed awhile to calm down. Just turned FOX on today. Only check in periodically on the internet still. Been enjoying my pool, which I only got in for a half hour today, thanks to my endless list of errands. I am smiling to think of YOU on vacation, imagine if I actually took one.
ROR! That was the Maggianos in Denver, I roar at you remembering that! I am def proactive on things like that, but the raging TSA lesboan had me askeered to mouth off, but my eyes were steady rolling!
