Tiburon Man Allegedly Tries to Run Over Pedestrian Because of Plaid Jacket

A Tiburon man was arrested Monday on allegations he tried to run over a pedestrian because he didn't like his jacket, police said.

Eugene Thomas Anderson, 31, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $50,000.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. in downtown Tiburon, where police received numerous calls on a reckless driver on Tiburon Boulevard, said police Sgt. Steve Hahn. One caller reported a driver doing spinouts in the parking lot at the CVS pharmacy, and another reported a man who got out of a car in Belvedere and started throwing garbage cans in the street, Hahn said. Around the same time, Tiburon fire Capt. Steve Ardigo saw a car come up on the sidewalk and nearly hit a pedestrian in front of the fire station.

"He sped off and we called the police," Ardigo said. As police searched the area, a sheriff's deputy stopped a potential suspect in a Honda on westbound Tiburon Boulevard.

"He said he didn't like the jacket the guy was wearing," Hahn said. "He found it offensive."

Just seeing plaid makes me angry! Don't get me near a golf course 'cause I'll take my golf cart and run over every golfer wearing it!

My old boss at the coal company was a bit color blind. He would have slipped on a pea green sport coat with those blue plaid trousers.

When are we going to stop these maniacs with the cars? Clearly we need tighter car control! Ban cars, especially automatics!

Maybe we could license drivers and limit the size of the gas tank to one or two gallons.

Cars don't kill. People kill.

Let's not be too hasty to call for tighter Car Control.

Before I pass judgment, I’d have to see the jacket...

A little over the top, I think, unless the guy was wearing lederhosen and argyle socks as well. You can only push a feller so far...

"...and limit the size of the gas tank to one or two gallons."

Would that cause violence at the pump?

I find this behavior reprehensible, unless the man was wearing striped pants with the plaid jacket.
