“Dewhurst’s Allies Are Throwing The Kitchen Sink At Cruz” (TX Senate runoff)
Legal Insurrection ^ | 7/24/2012 | William A. Jacobson

I understand, from a far distance, that the anti-Ted Cruz ads have been pretty brutal. This report by National Journal, Four Signs of Cruz-mentum, indicates the last few days will be the worst yet:

The spot ties Cruz to the suicide of a teenager (the boy’s mother is featured in the ad) who served time in a juvenile detention center. But to say the connection is a stretch would be an understatement. Cruz defended a Pennsylvania developer in a judicial corruption scandal, but not on a criminal matter.

The super PAC’s decision to double down on the weak connection the last couple of weeks — and to release an ad with a lot of shock value one week from Election Day — looks like one based on a desire to shake up the race, not to solidify a lead for a sturdy frontrunner.

Dewhurst and Joe Straus should be expelled from the GOP. They are disgusting scumbags.

Dewhurst, Straus, Medina, and about 40% of the other R office holders should go immediately.

I think Cruz is going to pull it out. By November Dewhurst will be forgotten.

I have been extremely put off by Dewhurt’s nonstop mud throwing at Cruz. It has only been in the past couple of weeks that he started talking about his vision and his plans. Prior to that, it began to look as though he and zero have the same problem - neither one can run on their record.

You understand correctly. I am so ready for this to be over. The robocalls this weekend are going to be horrific.

One of the commenters lives in the DFW area & plans to early vote in Houston. Not sure that can be done...all the Harris County early voting locations are for people registered to vote in Harris County, AFAIK.

Another commenter says he sent in his absentee ballot today. Aren’t those via snail mail? Cutting it a bit too close?

I completely agree.

After running that half baked “Cruz loves the Chinese” commercial ad nauseum...even after it was debunked..I’m not even going to look into this attack ad.

I’m pretty cynical and think most politicians are truth stretchers. But Dewhurst did himself no favors with me.

I had no huge problem with Dewhurst in the past but he has lost any credibility with me.

Oh yeah, did I mention I’ll be voting for Cruz? :)

I got a personal FB response from Ted,,thanking me for my support and urging me to get my Texas family and friends to the polls...at least I think it was from him.

He’s just got to win this. Dewie is smarmy. Did anyone else notice the flashes of anger on his face at the debates? Scary.

Prior to the run off I had very little to base my vote on. When I saw and heard the vicious attack adds that Dewhurst was running I quickly made up my mind. Cruz yes, Dewhurst No!!!!!!!

What really surprised me was how Dewhurst went viciously negative immediately. There can only be one reason for this. He had internal data from polling that showed he was losing badly. You do not go 100% negative in a run off election unless you are in big trouble.

You are correct and that is why Dewhurst will lose. For years Dewhurst has been "that guy in Austin and a Republican so we will vote for him."

I did not know who Cruz was but he had good credentials as a conservative Republican as did Dewhurst.

Dewhurst's unreal attack adds against Cruz sealed the deal for me. I look forward to seeing Senator Cruz and hopefully Dewhurst will just go away.

PS Dewhurst should ask for a refund from his political media advisers. His own campaign destroyed him, not Cruz.

Uncle Rick Perry likes money so he likes Dewhurst.

If Cruz had more money than Dewhurst, Uncle Rick would like him more.

Simple math in Texas.

“Dewhurst should ask for a refund from his political media advisers. His own campaign destroyed him, not Cruz.” <<<

The shame and the lack of character it takes to lie, exaggerate and generally destroy another because you are losing badly, I just don’t believe can be laid at the feet of campaign advisers. The debate was also all Dewhurst. How did he ever get elected in Texas in the first place???

What a zero in personality and charisma. Borrrring.

You are right - unless someone lives in Houston, they cannot vote in Houston and you have to vote in your precinct. Election this year was an absolute mess with so many fingers in the pot and realignment of precincts. Even those of us who worked during earlier elections had trouble keeping up. Plus a lot of the usual polling places weren’t available so we had to really scramble to find vacant places that would accommodate voting activities for a short period of time.

Everything was so much easier in the olden days when everybody voted on the same day and always in the church or school nearest you.
