From gold silk and tiny waistlines, to flowing white chiffon, the picture of a bride's ultimate wedding dress has changed dramatically over the last 150 years. Showcasing the changing face of wedding gowns worn by American brides since 1830, a new exhibition, Tying the Knot: Cleveland Wedding Fashions, displays vastly differing bridal trends covering more than a century. From a 1879 dress made for socialite Alice Wade Everett, designed by famed French couturier Charles Frederick Worth; 1920's flapper dresses, the exhibit includes both the brides' traditional dresses and lingerie.

I think a lady always looks best in a dress.

This is a listing of some of the classier and modest prom dresses available. Mostly, it appears, from LDS suppliers. The LDS should not be the only conservatives with class.

Women are like pianos: when they’re not upright, they’re grand!

Of the dresses pictured, I like the 1950s Grace Kelly style.

I am SO SICK of strapless wedding dresses!

We’ve gone from “By the time I unbutton you from all that I am going to be too tired to consummate this” to “are you a hooker or a bride?” in barely a century.

“Dressed in White”also has nice stuff. I bought my daughter’s first Communion dress from them. Yes, they’re LDS, but unabashed about marketing to Catholics.

Priceless statement about classless women. You’d think their mothers would advise them to save the lingerie for the wedding night, since these days they haven’t saved anything else.

I was truly hoping Kate Middleton's modest yet extremely lovely and tactful dress would help put and end to the strapless dress syndrome.

Sadly I do not know if that has made a difference.

Isn’t that the truth? Her dress was stunning. It was so refreshing to see elegance on prominent display.

A child of mine has just chosen this dress. She does not, unfortunately, have the monies to do the dress justice. It is an uptown urban wedding style, and she has a beer budget.

Like all those young women who dress in cutouts at Marshalls and wear Designer Everything then get into beater cars and beater jobs. They do not understand how out of place they look, aping their betters (or richers!)

Hear, hear. I think the liberal progressives who control all fashion in this country, somehow convinced American women that dresses and skirts were passe, or demeaning in some way.

Now American women resemble the Communist Chinese women of last century. They hardly ever wear real women's clothing anymore.
