I may have an opportunity to purchase a Springfield XDM 3.8 in 9mm to replace all my other firearms which I lost in an unfortunate boating accident. Does anybody here have experience with this firearm, and if so, could you give me your impressions.

It’s a nice 9mm. I’ve shot a friend’s, and recently was torn between an XDM. Sig 2022, and a M&P 9mm 4.25.
Went with the M&P, but I don’t think you’ll be unhappy with the XDM.

I know very little about firearms, but I’m very curious as to how you lost all your firearms in a boating accident. That seems a bit incongruous. Hope you don’t mind my prying.
I own an XD in .45 ACP. I am very pleased with it. I have the Compact model which with just a magazine change goes from a compact 10 round pistol to a full size (grip) 13 round pistol. Slick bit of engineering, that.
The only thing I quibble with is your choice of caliber. I prefer large, heavy, slow bullets over smaller, lighter, and faster ones.
Either way those XD’s are fine choices.

Sorry but I forgot to mention that there is one type of ammunition that consistently fails in my XD. Lead semi-wadcutters simply will not feed reliably at all.
Hollow points and FMJ are no problem, but that bullet fails to feed reliably at all. I recommend you avoid them.
What is your take on the trigger feel between the M&P and the XDM?

Have you checked with your local scuba club? If you ask them nicely they will normally dive the lake for you and recover items.
I recommend the floating grips.
I can get a lot more practice for my buck with 9mm than just about anything other than .22LR. 9mm is also a good caliber to share with Mrs. Chandler and the female offspring. And, Best Reason Of All, I might get a very good deal on it. The last time this particular relative sold me a gun, (before it was lost in the unfortunate boating accident), it was a Taurus Ultralite 85 snubnose .38, hardly ever fired, for $125.00.

Springfield Armory’s family of XD’s are great. I also have an SA-XD 45 acp and love it. Mine is not a compact, and the 13 round mags are great. I do not have a big hand, but this fits nice and feels good. I like the safety features - easy to know when one is in the chamber, and when it is cocked. I am a lefty, but find I can shoot it comfortably and accurately with either hand dominant. Recoil is even, and does not throw the gun up and off target. And it ‘likes’ Federal Hydra-Shok 230 grain Ammo. Again, I think this is a great family of semi-autos.
For me, both are fine. I know some would immediately invest in an Apex upgrade for the M&P, but I actually liked it stock (not at all gritty). I know some like to get real anal about the whole subject, but l had no issues out of the gate. And reports are, it breaks in even better in time. And compared to some of my DAO handguns, it’s a light short pull with a reset I can at least feel.

Try jewelers rouge on cylindrical buffing drum in a Dremel tool
And smooth out the feed ramp. I had that problem on a cheap 1911 and

I'm just curious, and too lazy to look it up. (And I don't trust Russians).
I warmed one up at a gun range a year or so ago. It was pretty nice - liked it better than the Glock, I think it had a better trigger.
