Prayer request for my grandfather
8-5-2012 | Anthony Henriquez

Posted on 08/05/2012 8:59:08 AM PDT by wastedyears

This really isn't my thing, but I thought I'd reach out to a great community for some support. My grandfather is going through an operation, maybe two, to clear out his arteries. Doctors have confirmed with my dad and uncle yesterday that he'll be a DNR should it not work.

What makes it worse is that my father wants me at the hospital, but I'd rather not go to deal with it my own way, because quite frankly I'd don't need to cry for a whole day and if that happens, well, I've had much time to reflect on my life and I don't know what I'd do in such a depressive state.

I don't really care if my dad sees this, his handle is 'wiggen' on here. As far as he's concerned, it's his way or it's wrong.

But I'm gonna go talk to a local priest so I can try to keep my spirits as high as possible, rather than letting them fall and let my mind be open to some... pretty dark things.

Again, this really isn't my thing, but if you could spare a minute or two to think of my grandfather Harry and maybe say a prayer for him, that would be wonderful. But after typing this I'm not going to check the thread because I don't want to stare at a blurry screen with moist cheeks for an hour or the whole rest of the day.

Thank you for your time.

I'll pray for everyone involved.

You didn't ask for advice, but I'll give you this little bit: many years from now, you will think back on this episode, and you will remember your choices and you will want to feel that you did the right thing. Being at the hospital and supporting family members is never a bad choice. Other choices, in hindsight, may be far less appealing, but by then it's too late to make a better choice. Sometimes it's good to do the hard things.

Dear Heavenly Father, We ask you to heal our brother, Harry. Give guidance and wisdom to his surgeons. We also ask you to comfort his family during this stressful and difficult time. In This I Pray. Amen.

*** Anthony, maybe Dad wants you at the hospital because your presence can comfort him. I am just saying that a family together can give strength. Please re-think your position about staying away and dealing with this on your own. Not sure of your age but sometimes in life, we have to just suck it up and deal with life’s hardships. This may be one of those times. Nobody “likes” sitting in a hospital waiting room and worrying. NO ONE. But, it is something we need to do because you are family. Hugs, Mom

God bw with you and your family....

As a long time heart patient (mine started at 39), technology is a wonderful thing and has kept me around for a long time...let’s hope the same wished on your grandfather...

No, Anthony, thank you for your request. It allows us to say prayers for your Granddad, your Father, You, and all others who love him.

It is a reminder that God should always be first in our thoughts in the morning, and last in our thoughts at night.

Prayers are lifted for Him and all of you.

This is a stressful time for you, but remember that it is also stressful for your Dad. Dad's can sometimes be a PITA, especially when they may not be able to openly show their emotions, thinking they always have to be the "strong" one in the family.

I prayed for your Granddad's successful operation and quick recovery, but also prayed that, if he doesn't know the Lord Jesus, he will turn to him today. If he does, then his future is firmly fixed to be with the Lord, forevermore.

So Anthony, thanks again for asking for prayers. I resisted the Lord for 40+ years before seeking his forgiveness and salvation. Thank the Lord that there was someone praying for me throughout all those years. Your request gives me a chance to stay focused on what is most important in this life.

Let us know how things go, will be looking forward to reading your update.

I just want to back up what ClearCaseguy suggested. I wanted to add:

Many of us have been in the same dark place where you are. Please consider going to the hospital to offer support, even if that support is simply holding someone’s hand or hugging someone. These are the times when support offered to and received from family can be the best therapy.

Pinging for prayer.

You have my prayers, but I have one question — who declared that your grandfather is a DNR? I thought that was up to the family? I’d remind the physicians of their Hippocratic oath.

In the coming days, your father can be assured that your action has brought untold prayer support for you and your family at this trying moment. What a blessing!

Anthony,

Prayers offered. Focus on Jesus. . .as he is in your today and already in your tomorrows.

Your presence at the hospital would bring comfort to your Grandfather and father.

Keep the faith, God will see you through this.

The grandfather himself or a medical power of attorney could have signed a DNR form. This requires an appropriately filled out state sponsored form (each state usually has its own form) that is co-signed by a physician.

Anthony, it’s not about you, it’s support for your father and your grandpaw, go be with your dad and quit thinking about yourself. Prayers your way.

That’s very good advice, and it was kind of you to offer it. There are no do-overs in life, and failing to be there for your family when they need you results in regrets that are very difficult to live with.

WY, you and your family are in my prayers. I know this is painful. God be with you, and bless you.
