Paul and George are totally out of it. I can't tell about Ringo but John is in is "I'm a 40 year old woman" stage.

Not that they’re playing their guitars, but why does John have an acoustic one?

As far as appearance, that was groovy

Nah, they’re just happy. Very, very happy. Sort of like a drug induced happiness. Wait a minute....

Yep, they’re pretty wasted but it’s refreshing that there’s no mention of Ho’s, B!tches or homicide.

It was the 60s, what do you expect.

If you can remember the 60s, you weren’t there.

Watch George towards the end of the video. He’s not sure if Paul or John is in charge.

Favorite Beatles tune? “I Am The Walrus.” Stunning piece of music,,, but,,,, I give Sir George Martin a huge amount of credit for their best music. I had no interest in them until “Revolver.” Up until then, they were a band strictly for little girls!

The Beatles did drugs??? Oh no! I didn’t know that. None of the groups in the 60’s did drugs!

Actually, they don’t look too stoned.

Actually Magical Mystery Tour was pretty mild. I’m not going To look it up (my memory ain’t to great these days) but I think I Am The Walrus is also on that album. Coo coo ka choo. Move forward to the White Album..then you can say “stoned”.

My favorite song from that album is Blue Jay Way which, as far as I know, is the only Beatles song about Los Angeles. I used to live on Kings Road, a mile and a half from Blue Jay Way, which is in Doheny Estates. Both streets are in the same zip code.

All the streets in the neighborhood are named for birds--Dr. Rodger Swearingen of the USC School of International Relations, a much-published expert on the Soviet Union, lived on Kinglet Dr., just down the hill and a few blocks away from Blue Jay.

“But Dr.....What does it mean?”

Okay,,,, a reasonable question. I am a retired pro musician. I’m an instrumentalist, never been a vocalist. So to me, the vocal line, and the lyrics are just another instrument. I hear it as a human instrument, making sounds. I never have a clue about what lyrics mean. I don’t digest music that way. I hear music as a whole, not separate parts. So to me, “Walrus” is a complete sound, and not just parts. Lennon was great at putting “sounds” together. Some verses in some of his songs are so “glottal” that they sound German, even though they’re in English. He was great at that. Sometimes his lyrics make no sense “lyrically” but make wonderful sense “sonically!”
There was a German study, done just recently, and reported here a day or so ago, that dealt with “musical minds.” Some very interesting results! I have a “musical mind.” My search abilities here are so poor, perhaps someone more “Computer-minded” can find me the link? Some interesting differences.

My Sister play classical flute beautifully. But play a song for her, and she really can’t mentally recall, nor hear, in her mind, the music. Put sheet music in front of her, and she’ll play it beautifully. Alas, she doesn’t really have a musical mind.

They have neither red, glassy eyes (weed and hash symptoms), pinpoint pupils (heroin, oxycodone, opiates), or dialated pupils (lsd, mescaline, 'shrooms, all psychedelics). They are as sober as judges, and lip-synching their asses off.

Where do you get this "stoned" crap? Objection, your honor. Assumes facts not in evidence.

Thanks..that is interesting.

My brother is a musician and says the same re: the voices and lyrics being part of the music. Not a defineable sound to him.

Me..I have not been blessed with the muse.

I just like do drive down the road singing off key at the top of my lungs. :)

"They peaked at Rubber Soul and Revolver. And then began the slide."

Oh, now, I wouldn't go that far. :) Those were two stellar albums...but you can't discount their subsequent works entirely. "Magical Mystery Tour" was a throw-away, but Sgt. Pepper was a masterpiece. "The White Album" was a wonderful mix of hit-or-miss classics. "Let It Be" was cathartic.

Overall, I'd have to say that there never has been, nor will there likely be, a single group that has such impact on the music world, or the world in general, in such a short period of time as the Beatles had.

I would say bored aping for a “music video” (of the time). One of their simplest (lamest) songs to boot. Done for the money and pretty pedestrian after all their work on Sgt. Pepper earlier in that year.

"Magical Mystery Tour" was a throw-away, but Sgt. Pepper was a masterpiece.

I wasn't suggesting that they did nothing worthwhile thereafter.Sgt Peppers was excellent, the White Album had several great songs...same with Abbey Road.

“I just like do drive down the road singing off key at the top of my lungs. :)”

That’s great! Music is meant to do many things; simple enjoyment is probably the most important! But there is music that challenges the mind too. I have worn out three LPs of ELectronic Music from Columbia/Princeton/ My friends can’t handle it at all, and some are downright frightened by it! I abdo-lutely adore it!
