I would say bored aping for a “music video” (of the time). One of their simplest (lamest) songs to boot. Done for the money and pretty pedestrian after all their work on Sgt. Pepper earlier in that year.

That’s hilarious. They had to be totally oblivious to the meaning of the lyrics. When I heard the male was Dick Dale, I thought it was really going to be a shocker

"Magical Mystery Tour" was a throw-away, but Sgt. Pepper was a masterpiece.

I wasn't suggesting that they did nothing worthwhile thereafter.Sgt Peppers was excellent,the White Album had several great songs...same with Abbey Road.

“I just like do drive down the road singing off key at the top of my lungs. :)”

That’s great! Music is meant to do many things; simple enjoyment is probably the most important! But there is music that challenges the mind too. I have worn out three LPs of ELectronic Music from Columbia/Princeton/ My friends can’t handle it at all, and some are downright frightened by it! I abdo-lutely adore it!

“I never have a clue about what lyrics mean. I don’t digest music that way. I hear music as a whole, not separate parts.”

That was an amazing analysis. I too “suffer” from that same malady but never was able to put it in context as you just have. With many songs I listen to, the words have little or no meaning but they just sound good. What are your thoughts on exceptionally vocally talented artists such as Sinatra?

I can't in all honesty say that I am familiar with the Electronic Music/Columbia/ Princeton. But I will take a guess that since you mention LPs..it is probably a precursor to the more current synthesizers, etc.?

I have a very good friend that is a composer (primarily classical). His music always makes me think. His last compositions have been recorded by a company that uses “electronic music”. It sounds like a full orchestra. Completely amazing.

“What are your thoughts on exceptionally vocally talented artists such as Sinatra?”

Ah! Another very good question!

I like Sinatra. Dean Martin even more, but I think a lot of that was because of his delightful personality. I’m a huge Mill’s Brothers fan. But that era of music was a bit different. Although the musical arrangements may have seemed sometimes complex, they really weren’t. The arrangements were designed to put the vocalist WAY out front. I grew up listening to these guys. Sinatra’s phrasing, and interesting voice, Dean’s just plain fun approach, and the Mills Bros harmony. But I was a piano Boogie Woogie baby! My Mom would put me in the playpen, and I would shake the bars and scream “Music, Music”. My Mom told me that was the third word that I learned after Mamma and Dadda. The only way she could shut me up was to put on a stack of Boogie Woogie 78s by Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson, and Meade Lux Lewis. She’d just keep turning the stack over to keep me quiet and entertained. Musical mind. Can’t explain it, though I try. It’s funny,,,, as a guitarist, people ask me who my favorite musician is, and when I tell them Albert Ammons, they’re clueless!

“.it is probably a precursor to the more current synthesizers, etc.?”

All they had were the first very, very basic first synthesis. Much more tone generators and tape manipulation,

Here is my favorite Classical electronic composition, by my favorite composer; This is the piece that scared my friends! I abdo-lutely love it!;

here is a comment on a different video of that one toke song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8tdmaEhMHE "Several years ago, I had a chance to meet with a few alumni of Welk's orchestra. I asked them about this. They said that Lawrence Welk most definitely knew what he was doing here. And Myron Floren's "choking" in the intro was not an accident, either. By their accounts, Welk had a "wicked sense of humor" and often threw in asides like this one to see if anyone got it. Sadly, many took it at face value and missed the point. But according to those who were there, this was deliberate. Genius!"

I will certainly check those out. I grew up with a father into Sinatra, Nat Cole and the Mills Brothers. My mother loved/loves Dean Martin. Looking forward to checking out your links.
