Wheels down, Curiosity has made it to the surface of Mars.
Just got the first images- awesome piece of engineering. Looks like Skycrane is the way to go when humans land there.
Congratulations to the men and women at JPL!
Aerojet here in Sac built the rockets that carried curiosity to Mars and also the rockets that landed Curiosity on the surface. Congrats to Aerojet and everyone else who helped. This is spectacular!
I’m still watching the stream. Unbelievable planning. Incredible success.
“It’s a wheel! It’s a wheel! We’ve got wheels on Mars.”
The NASA feed was fantastic. That was a fast 7 minutes. The powered descent and the skycrane maneuver seemed like they lasted only a few seconds. Fabulous.
Well, I hope it moves!
Must have been nerve-wracking for those guys to know that by the time they got the telemetry from entry the thing was already on the surface for five minutes.
>> Good work to the JPL.
Seriously? JPL didn’t build that.
Good work. to JPL, and all the contractors that made the pieces of Curiosity.
USA! USA! USA!
-THEY- BUILT IT, MR. PRESIDENT!
-THEY- DESIGNED IT, MR. PRESIDENT!
-THEY- PROVED THAT IT WORKED, MR. PRESIDENT!
Way to go JPL!!! Awesome job!!!
Have they found any Muslims there yet?
There are roads and bridges on the way to Mars?
I turned on Coast to Coast AM briefly to hear what was being said.
Understandably, there was an air of celebration for the successful landing itself, but there was also giddy speculation that an announcement of confirmed life on Mars was to be Obomba’s October surprise, and that would “put him over the top” for the election.
What a way to ruin a great event. Radio off.
With government funding provided from US taxpayers. No doubt some how the ONE will take credit for this success, even though he was not there and had nothing to do with it.
Has it started beaming back Obama campaign commercials yet?
I fell asleep on C2C and missed that nugget.
How did he think that an announcement of confirmed life on Mars would help Hussein the election?
I wasn’t exactly wide awake at the time, but I gathered that the guest (not sure of who it was, don’t think it was Hoagland) believed that the announcement of life on Mars would give Obomba the opening to start up a “look what a great job the government (NASA) did, so let’s go to Mars” campaign angle.
He also mentioned that the deficit wouldn’t be a problem because a popular program (like the Apollo program) would create prosperity through massive government spending.
Then Noory felt the need to rubberstamp the notion that this would put Obomba back in for another term.
As always, my biggest gripe with Noory is his unwillingness to challenge any guest, no matter how off the wall the guest happens to be.
