Word For The Day, Monday, 8/6/12
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
1. calling oneself thus; self-styled. 2. so-called or pretended.
Etymology: French, literally, saying oneself First Known Use: 1752
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Here is my example with WFTD.
Soi-disant IRS agent, dirty harry, dirty liar.
Review Thread One: Word For The Day, Thursday 11/14/02: Raffish (Be SURE to check out posts #92 and #111 on this thread!)
Review Thread Two: Word For The Day, Tuesday 1/14/03: Roister
Review Thread Three: Word For The Day, Tuesday 1/28/03: Obdurate
No pushing at the door please!
Less than stellar day shaping up here, hope you all are having a better one than i am.
The Soi-Disant messiah isn’t working out as he planned.
A+++ hopefully the unwashed masses can see that, too.
From your fingertips to God’s Eyes.
The sun’s breaking through the morning gloom as we speak.
Heading to Houston this afternoon.
Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are soi-disant civil rights leaders..........
BRAVO, truthy!! A+++++
sounds like a pome to me ; ) A+++
A+++ aka race hustlers.
Soi-disant sounds like some kind of vegan diet!
I’ll give a whirl to Nancy Pelosi’s self vaunted Catholic theology — soi-disant all the way.
.....I prefer ‘poverty pimps’, myself............
A+++ a Catholic in her own mind.
Have you looked at her recently? Her slovely appearance coupled with her decidedly poor performance as SOS reduces her threat exponentially.
Wasn’t he Joey on “Friends”?
If it’s a poem about a storm you’re wanting, this is the one:
The clouds prepare for battle
In the dark and brooding silence.
Bruised and sullen stormclouds
Have the light of day obscured.
Looming low and ominous
In twilight premature
Thunderheads are rumbling
In a distant overture...
All at once, the clouds are parted.
Light streams down in bright unbroken beams...
Follow men’s eyes as they look to the skies.
The shifting shafts of shining weave the fabric of their dreams...
The Orkin Pest Control man brought his thumb down on the world’s smartest bug and said, “Soi-disant isa dead. What you want me to see so important?”
Yeah, it brings tears to my eyes too.
Remember Claire Danes in “My Soi-Disant Life?”
yes, she’s a mess but she could be made over. The unwashed mushy middle who do not pay attention to politics will be oblivious to her poor performance as SOS, and if predisposed to vote against Obams or to stay home, may be brought to the polls for hillary.
what do you think?
you and hobbes both do love to natter on about pop culture BS to me as if i had any notion of what you were talking about. its so adorable ; )
Jacob’s Ladder, by Rush, the Canuckistan band.
Is calling myself the beltway martyr too soi-disant? How was traffic today?
All the science girls are crushing on Bobak Fedowski.
She probably doesn’t know that there’s unrest in the forest either.
Well, after a 13 hour drive yesterday back to Kennesaw, I am so-distant from from my niece’s wedding in Annapolis .... 8<)
yes, that would be a bit much considering yunz drove on the beltway for 3-4 days max! A+++ traffic was dandy bc Congress is on recess and everyone is on vaca in august.
that is so true, robt! A+++
did know that.
What, were you hanging out with the stoners in high school? ;-)
You know they listened to Pink Floyd and Yes.
Circus mag. let's see i was 14 yo in 1970.
excellent, Doubled! A++++
What caused your day to begin badly?
It will be a great day when the soi-disant One exits the White House along with his sow-dissonant FLO-TUS
About 10 min after i put them out this AM, Chan was missing from the yard, Jules sitting on the walk looking down the street, so i figured that’s the way she had gone. I jumped in my car to drive down looking for her and backed into xsteen’s RAV4, denting the corner of the back fender. Found chan 2 yards over from the guy next door. We had forgotten to put the electric collar back on after the groomer and while Jules was a good boy and stayed close to home, Chan decided to go on a long explore. So i felt sick about hitting her car. i DO STUFF LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME, as you know. i have hit something in the driveway/garage close to a handful of times. My husband is a saint, he never yells, just says don’t worry about it, we will take care of it. etc. I was relating the story to the two paralegals this AM. Both are 60+ yo and divorced and when i said xshub didn’t yell and was very nice and comforting, they were both floored and agreed their EXes would have shot them if they’d done something like it. xsteen was also nice about it, had it been xsboy’s car, i assure you he would have been mad, and it could have just as easily been him, bc they vye for that spot at the top of the driveway outside of my side of the garage. I still feel terrible and prob will for awhile.
thats excellent HW, Mik! A++++
My husband is like yours - doesn't get upset about little things. As my Marine would say to you, "calm down, it could be worse - no one is shooting at you"
Sorry to hear about your automotive mishap.
thanks. at least they don’t happen out on the roadways and no one gets hurt, i can be grateful.
xsteen scraped her back bumper in the garage parking for a Caps game and was so upset about it. it is a sickening feeling. needless to say, i was sympathetic to her plight.
Not Yes. Not in my time anyway. Zeppelin and Floyd and the Doors. And Rush was for the deep thinking stoner crowd.
