I warned you all that I love the Olympics (maybe a little too much), but this is a story worth sharing. While American Sanya Richards-Ross was accepting the gold medal for winning the 400-meter dash, Usain Bolt, the amazingly fast Jamaican man who won the 100-meter dash, was giving an interview. And instead of continuing to talk over the Star-Spangled Banner, he turned around, pointed at the flag, and indicated to the reporter that he would like to watch in silence. Watch:

So cool. As much as I love watching the USA take the gold in as many events as possible, that is what the Olympics are all about: sportsmanship and respect. Congrats to both Richards-Ross and the aptly-named Bolt!
For God and Country!
Does he sprint without shoes?
It was also the greatest race ever.
The American who ran third got ran it in 9.80.
When I attended the olympics in 1984 (and was privileged to see the final day of track), the world record in the 100 meters was 9.93.
I realize that was a long time ago. But still. These sprinters, not just the Jamaicans, but the Americans, also, are just insanely fast. It is truly astonishing to watch!
With regards to Bolt, I know a lot of people don’t like his antics. But I think he is having fun, and he’s got some showmanship. Personally, I think he’s great. It also seems to be his way of coping and blowing off steam as it were. Everyone is different. But last night when he was introduced and he lined up in the blocks, yes, he did some fun antics and clowning around, but there was no denying that he looked worried. So finally...Bolt was pushed and at about 40 meters wow, it showed.
The greatest race of all time. And won by a gentleman who treats the American flag with far greater respect than NBC.
What’s not to like here??!
More power to him — he’s a great athlete and well-deserving of his crown.
Don’t know much about him but what I’ve read in this thread suggests that he’s a pretty classy guy.
give this guy a VISA
I haven’t been following thw Olympics much, but Mr. Bolt is a class act.
Awesome! Man, he is fast and very classy act there.
1984: 9.93 = 22.527 mph 2012: 9.63 = 23.228 mph
Since football players run the 40 yard dash with best speed of about 4.2, that comes out to about 8.7 meters/second.
Now Bolt ran, in the 100 Meter, dash run 10.3 meters/second.
And the American running 9.8, ran 10.2 meters/second.
So, at the end, they were going father than 23 mph.
It would be the amount of time the last 20 meters was run to get a gage of the top speed of the athletes.
I would imagine 25 to 30 mph was their speed... Faster?
Probably need a radar gun...
I have much respect for him. Unlike Obama, who does the crotch aalute, Bolt asked to respect America.
Great athlete and guy!
Awesome. So much respect
Thank you Mr Bolt!
Thank you Mr. Bolt for respecting our flag and National Anthem! The interviewer should be ashamed of trying to talk over it.
A radar gun would be appropriate! And cool!
Rumor has it Bolt is headed to Philadelphia Eagles try out.
I hadnt followed track and field in years...and 9.9 was insanely fast. 9.6 is off the chart. Wonder if he can catch a football??
RE: I hadnt followed track and field in years...and 9.9 was insanely fast.
You now have to run at least 10.01 to qualify for the Olympic finals.
Dammit! I was intent on not liking this guy. I was fuming the other day that Americans don’t win the 100 anymore and that this strutting jackass won (I didn’t even watch it because I knew he’d smoke everyone) and that he’s probably doped, and here he goes and does this. Very cool. That’s the good thing about things like this; it humanizes the athletes. I’ve changed my mind about Bolt, and I’ve grudgingly accepted the fact that the Jamaicans are just eating our lunch in the sprints these days.
