Serena Williams caused a mini-controversy when she celebrated winning a gold medal in the women's singles at the London Olympics with a gangster dance.

The dance, which has been referred to as a "Crip Walk," was technically more likely a "Blood Walk." Regardless, she was flogged by many for her celebration.

And if a lack of “class” is the new standard for diminishing someone’s amazing athletic achievement, privileged darling John McEnroe should never be allowed to show his face at a tennis court ever again.

I think you're right. I guess it goes something like this, in some minds:

Serena Williams does a 4 second victory dance after winning a Gold Medal - slut, ghetto, gangsta

John McEnroe yells, throws things, insults people, whines incessantly over course of several years - competitive, fiery, determined

Looked like a cute little dance step to me regardless of who it originated with. “I don’t care” is a great attitude IMO. “I don’t give a rat’s ass” is even better and just how I feel about political correctness of any kind.

I’m with Serena.

And for the record, that looked like a quick Texas 2-step.

The best part to me is that she has reached the highest that anyone can in her chosen field, is having fun, getting rich and driving all you anonymous, pompous, self-righteous midgets crazy in the bargain.

Actually, the dance moves were more than likely choreographed originally or deeply inspired by Paula Abdul (when she was choreographing for the LA Lakers Cheerleaders and Janet Jackson, etc...), or other professional dancers and choreographers that were her contemporaries, or even her teachers - at least that’s who all the young people dancing “back in the day” just before “Hip-Hop” became well-known were ‘copying’ - including all the Hip-Hop, Freestyle, and House dancing “gangsters”.

We could look back even further in the history of dance and find similarities at other times as well - including similarities in regards to people’s attitudes and reactions such as those displayed on this thread.

I could give a crap about tennis or Serena's dance, but I tend not to like any self-glorifying displays at sporting events. Unsportsmanlike.

I fully understand that most Americans love it. Otherwise they wouldn't be as common as they are today.

I thought there was something to it until I saw the “dance”, all 4 seconds of it! Wow, people don’t we have more important things to tear our hair out over like the other black champions straightened hair?!

her sister was shot down in Compton. i think she was killed by a Crip.

the story goes that the Crip Walk was about spelling out the name of the other gang and doing a step over it.

I am surprised that some of those announcers even knew what it was when she did it.

What in the world...?

I was expecting some giggling and hip grinding or something, based on some of the comments here. For pete’s sake — NFL cheerleaders look “sluttier” than this girl skipping a few steps. For that matter, I’ve seen more “ghetto” dances from NFL players after a touchdown.

Lighten up, Francis.

She doesn’t drive me crazy dear as I haven’t wasted time following her career. As for her being rich and at the top of her field, all well and good for her. All she has done is prove that all the money and rewards in the world can’t buy class.

Some of these people are so uptight they can hit the inaudible sonic ranges after a bean burrito and a bowl of popcorn!

I wouldn't expect a gang worshiper to care about her actions.

I’m on her side. And even if I wasn’t because I’m just generally sick of the culture of incessant whining I would be because whiners are now incessing about her.

Slut was probably too strongly worded. But I will say this Serena Williams grew up in Compton, California a Crip stronghold. She obviously grew up around a gangster influence by living in that area, not that that’s her fault there are some great people that escape the ghetto and make something out of themselves. But, the glorification of a criminal organization on the global stage when she is representing America is a disgrace and it disgusts me that a gold medal for Team USA has been tarnished by her Crip dance.

Oh, yeah, blame it on the Jew.

Serena is a racist, ghetto skank. Her ‘crips dance’ was unsportsmanlike and a show of disrespect to the Olympics. She is the female version of Mike Tyson, less the ear biting thing. I was glad to see the American flag fall from it’s hanger during her ceremony. Her conduct isn’t deserving of our flag and it didn’t want to fly for her.

She has ‘ghettofied’ the 0lympics just as 0bama has ‘ghettofied’ the White House. And they both make our flag fall to the ground.

====================================================

No truer words were ever posted. Serena Williams, and her over the hill sister, embody everything wrong in pro sports. Every time they amble onto the court, the late great Arthur Ashe, turns over in his grave.

When ever they hang up their size 16 tennis skirts, the sport will be 10X better off.
