Fractures in conservative opposition to gay rights and even same-sex marriage have now widened to include the core of the rights message machine, the Fox News Channel, where a cadre of younger voices have begun to defend same-sex relationships and even advocate openly for same-sex marriage.
(snip) Smith is the most notable and frequent example to buck Fox News regular party line on the issue.
But the same week that Smith described Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day, organized by fellow Fox host Mike Huckabee, as a national day of intolerance, Kelly joined Smith on his side of the gay marriage debate ....
Hoover, who was a Fox contributor for four years and is now at CNN, ".... my sense of it is that this is both of them taking a principled stand, Hoover said. It probably isnt representative of Foxs positioning on an issue. Clearly Mike Huckabee doesnt feel the same way.
Another former Fox employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that in fact, higher-ups actively frown on Smiths outspokenness.
Shep is on really thin ice, the former employee said. If he wasn't so popular and highly rated (and highly paid) Roger [Ailes] would have yanked him off the air months ago.

Last time I watched Shep Smith was his shameful Super Dome/Katrina coverage, I won't miss the guy.
Shemp is “popular”? With who? I turn FOX off when he comes on. He’s a girlyman.
Worse than that, he's a pillow-biter.
Nonsense. Smith frequently has the lowest ratings of the FNC evening schedule.
That freak dosen’t get any ratings from me. His eyeliner freaks me out do much I don’t even stop long enough to listen to the BS coming from his yap
Shep is just boring for starter ..dont watch
I’d guess he’ll be a huge attraction at Salt Pillars National Monument.
I don’t watch Shep at all.
The issue is not do people who practice homosexuality have rights or not, the issue is whether or not we allow government to redefine marriage in a way that pleases the homosexual lobby.
I don’t want a government that is empowered to police what I do in the privacy of my own bedroom. I don’t know anyone else who does. If people want to practice sodomy that is their own private business, as distasteful as it may be to me and as much as God warns that He forbids it. However, gays do not leave it a private matter. They demand that I approve of their actions.
They do this when I own a bakery and politely decline to bake a cake to celebrate a same sex “marriage”. The demand that a wedding photographer accept the job of photographing that ceremony. The demand that a fast food chain pay a heavy price when its founder voices support for traditional marriage. And they demand the power to teach my child in school that since homosexual (same-sex) marriage is legal, therefore it is “normal” and legitimate, which it never can be.
Advocates and activists for same-sex marriage recoil in horror when anyone suggests that to be fair we must also allow polygamy. Yet their own argument supports it. I wonder how they are going to react when in a few years, their own children will be taught in a Utah public school that LDS-related polygamy is “normal” and legitimate.
But the difference is that LDS-related polygamists never demanded that I approve of what they were doing. And by now it is clear that approval is the thing that gays want most of all from the rest of us. Sorry, God defines marriage, not the Human Rights Campaign!
Hoover always screamed ‘liberal’ by her demeanor and viewpoints. Good riddance.

It's been a while since I've seen ol' Shemp too. It was occasionally amusing to hear him stumble over two syllable words.
This post, ‘The Gay Rights Revolution Arrives at Fox News’
mentions a HOOVER, but doesn’t give us her first name. So I went to the link to read the full article.
“In television people are worried about the demo, said Margaret Hoover, a former Fox News contributor and former Bush administration staffer who left the network last year, referring to television advertisers preoccupation with viewers between 18 and 49. Are you getting the demo? And the demo supports gay rights.
It is Margaret Hoover. She and her RINO husband, former Rudy Giuliani adviser, JOHN AVLON, are so pro-gay, that I wonder what goes on in THEIR bedroom. They are both despicable.
And to think that her great-grandfather was HERBERT HOOVER.
Replacing Shep Smith with Shemp Howard at FNC would be a vast improvement.
Agreed....but you are being too gentle.
Using the arguments of the fag cabal, then bestiality is JUST fine. That’s right. Two thousand-plus years of culture mean nothing. Fine. If taking it up the a** is hug-worthy and deemed normal by the fags, then by God those who love to give it to chickens or sheep or goats or horses or whatever should and MUST be given the same rights; the same recognition. I mean, who are we to say they are wrong?????
The thing that homosexuals want more than anything is Unrestricted Access To Young Flesh.
This is how they replenish their numbers, how they recruit, and how they chiefly satisfy their lusts.
Shep Smith. Proof that, unlikely as it may seem, Rex Reed has fathered a child.
And Herbert Hoover was a big government "progressive" RINO, truly an elitist member of the GOP-E of that era. Walter Lippmann, an extreme socialist, was among Hoover's supporters, because as president, he advanced "social justice" programs. Sure, Herbert Hoover had an 'R' next to his name as did Jacob Javits, Bob La Follette, Nelson Rockefeller and others of that ilk.
In contrast, Calvin Coolidge was a fine man of principle, a solid Christian Conservative. I think of Edith and Archie singing the opening to All in the Family. The lyrics ought to be:
Mister we could use a man like Calvin Coolidge again...
Seems like we were changing the channel too much unless Sarah was on during Greta’s hour so decided not to watch FOX at all. Just too many people whose comments irritated us too much. We do watch FOX Business channel a lot.
Dropped the television satellite service nearly a decade ago. Saw it coming. Where feminism enters, homosexualism follows. Have fun. Enjoy the slide.
I discovered a while back that shep smith looks a lot like bart simpson.
(sorry, bart...)
I quit watching Shep several months ago, couldn’t take his snide attitude any more.
If you live and work in NY City, particularly Manhattan, there is no way to avoid it.
The group-think and pressure for conformity are intense there.
I propose a trade with CNN. Shepard Smith for Robin Meade?
Raping young boys as a reproductive strategy... That is evil, no way to spin that.
I think that most people believe that only 21 year-old and older guys get together and snuggle. If they knew the horror that goes on while recruiting, maybe they would not be so 'Understanding.'
Shep, Cooper came out. You can too!
Not remotely surprised by Hoover. Her guest appearances on BOR regularly proved that she was a complete ass—not just politically. In just two appearances, she misattributed three sources for her arguments. Confusing Plato with Aristotle is par for the course for today’s university grads; but citing the Bible as the source for tolerance AND “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” is a bit too much to take.
Like that other Fox Kewpie doll, Margaret Hoover, Megyn Kelly is just too chirpy, too cute, too precious.
Hoover is gone ... unlamentedly so. I'm sure she fits in just fine over at CNN.
About the only thing I’ve watched on tv is a bit of Fox News and an occasional movie. HIV infected looking, botoxed Shep always gets muted. The Cox cable company gave me 3 differing billing amounts in the last 2 months, so the box is going back in the morning. Two words for them- Netflix and Hulu.
This guy has always been out of his depth. His entire schtick is opinionated half-cocked igborant outrage at exactly the wrong moment, as his sad knee-jerk performance early in the Trayvon debacle.
Can't stand the guy. A misplaced wannabe sports jock.
I don't understand it, but the one program I watch regularly (Brit Hume/Bret Baier) ranks lower consistently.
Shep = turn the channel.
LOL - talk about a cultural time stamp. "Change" the channel in modern turns - cheers to my generation!
LOL - talk about a cultural time stamp. "Change" the channel in modern turns - cheers to my generation!
My grandchildren asked me the other day why I call the TV remote a "clicker."
Exactly right.
I could see if there were a group of young people at Fox who believe in gay rights and civil unions; that would be fine and would make sense at this juncture.
But to push a redefiniton of marriage on society is not remotely coservative - it is progressive, and radically so.
That a conservative news network would have reached this point is disgraceful.
Fox News Channel is the rights message machine?
When did that happen?
Did I miss something?
Shep is entitled to his opinion; we are entitled to reject it.
Coming soon: Islamic style "temporary" marriages to legitimize fornication.
Shep injects his personal homo/liberal politics into the news. Can’t stand to watch him.
Varney is the dean of Fox Business Channel and I watch his morning show daily. It is far superior to Fox News Channel’s programming at that time.
fox business is unwatchable with that liberal loone Imus in the morning talking about everything but business.
They should just replace him with varney.
Kelly should just get off the air.
Smith is competing against non-competion cnn and msnbc. IOW during those hours there is no news.
FBN covers news better than FNC too.
You’re right about Imus. Not sure why anyone would watch/listen to him. Why pray tell is he on any FOX station?
Unless there is a hurricane coming we need to check on, we don’t watch any TV until Varney comes on and then TV is off until just before the market closes. Cavuto, Varney and Dodds are at the top of our preferred list.
who likes Smith, the man is a fairy and full of hate
Kelly, Smith, geraldo need to go now, Kelly borught her mate on named Saly Khon[kohn]
O.R. and Hannity need to be replaced.
Seeing as I never watch them anymore I’m betting nothing has changed by any of them Hannity a fraud, O.R. big mouth
I have no idea why anyone on ere watch these people and as for the FIVE I gave it 3months and could not take it anymore
