A Turkish newspaper columnist has been heavily criticised after writing an article which said the Olympic Games is destroying the female figure.

The piece - called "Womanhood is Dying at the Olympics"... soon spread around the world by saying the Games was distorting women's bodies ....

'Their breasts – the symbol of womanhood, motherhood – flattened into stubs as they were seen as mere hindrances to speed.

'I am not even talking about female javelin throwers, shot-put athletes, weightlifters, wrestlers and boxers.' He added that the appearance of many female Olympians was 'pathetic'.

Following the publication of the article, Mr Aytug was strongly criticised by people on Twitter and his own female colleagues.

A year or two back there was some talk about pole dancing being made an Olympic sport.

I suspect that would change the entire dynamic of this discussion...

After the Olympics a couple of orders of bangers with bubble
and squeak and a mug of chips will take care of the “problem.” Seriously,a Muslim male commenting about
women is like Obama commenting about capitalism- neither
knows what he talking about!

Well you may not find some girl with DD-sized chest in a marathon, it doesn’t mean that the ones that are in athletics did something vile to keep theirs from flying all over the place like this writer suggests.

Some women just have small breasts, some wear outfits to keep theirs form moving around..

Personally, I never really “got” the Olympics at all — for a number of reasons. The author hits on some good points here, especially when you look at it in the context of what the Olympics have become: an idiotic entertainment extravaganza that is little more than an enormous business.

Are you saying that the Olympics should be men-only?

I just posted the story, and said I agree with the columnist. MOST (NOT all) of the female Olympic athletes look very masculine.

Not just breasts either, gestures, walk, grunts and shouts during competition, spitting, etc, etc. Lady-like female Olympians appear few and far between.

To me this is a sure indication that Western culture (and the Olympics are an epitome of Western culture) simply does not value femininity any more, at least in women...

Does that mean I think only men should compete? No.

Far worse, the emasculation of men in the United States has destroyed American male's ability to compete with other nations. Of the 34 medals won by the U.S., 23 of them were won by women. This is a far worrisome statistic that does not bode well for males in the U.S.

One look at television, notably the commercials, and the push is on to empower girls (girl power!) and women at the expense of boys and men. Males are marginalized, mocked, belittled, and even slapped by women and no one seems to care nor change this pattern.

When they finally set aside their athletic career they really won’t be done with the training to give it ups and set it aside brings a large risk of those muscles turning to flab in a short time

Muscle does not turn to flab or fat...

Well, at least the gymnasts don't look like men.

They look like little kids.

One thing some aren’t understanding is that these women are made up for competition.

When they are done, they change out of their track clothes into regular outfits, take the ponytails and buns out, and break out the makeup.

And I can bet you there isnt a guy here that would still be talking about how “manly” they look when they walk by.

Bullcrap!!! Why we don't medal has nothing to do with emasculation of our males....

.Yep, many are also "pumped up" while competing and those vascular veins and ripped abs go away several hours or less after competing..

The writers a doofus, I am not defending the writer, just stating the obvious.. Athetics favors certain things, and a serious elite athlete in most sports isn’t going to have the shapely form of a beauty queen.

Though I will say, those ice blue eyes of US Olympian Georgeanne Moline are something to behold.

Well, since we are on the topic. It doesn't seem like western culture values masculinity much either. Personally, I see more feminine looking men, then I see masculine looking females.

...worse, the emasculation of men in the United States...

EXACTLY.

The masculinization of women has accompanied the emasculation of men.

This is about the whole society, not the fraction of 1% who are super-athletes.

Our great grandparents sent their daughters to finishing schools, where they would learn the finer points of hospitality and motherhood....and we send ours to soccer camps, where they can learn how to compete, curse, run, sweat, spit and scratch.

I find the wholesale denigration of femininity--with the concomitant emasculation of men--in our culture very sad.
