What’s So Bad About a Boy Who Wants to Wear a Dress?
NY Slimes ^ | 8/9/12 | RUTH PADAWER

The night before Susan and Rob allowed their son to go to preschool in a dress, they sent an e-mail to parents of his classmates. Alex, they wrote, “has been gender-fluid for as long as we can remember, and at the moment he is equally passionate about and identified with soccer players and princesses, superheroes and ballerinas (not to mention lava and unicorns, dinosaurs and glitter rainbows).” They explained that Alex had recently become inconsolable about his parents’ ban on wearing dresses beyond dress-up time. After consulting their pediatrician, a psychologist and parents of other gender-nonconforming children, they concluded that “the important thing was to teach him not to be ashamed of who he feels he is.” Thus, the purple-pink-and-yellow-striped dress he would be wearing that next morning. For good measure, their e-mail included a link to information on gender-variant children.

I knew a kid when I was growing up that was the exact same way. His brothers were very masculine but he just liked being a girl. His family structure was as normal as it gets, so I don’t think that was a factor. I lost touch with the family when the boy was 7 or 8, so I have no idea how he turned out.

At first, the parents humored him, thinking he would grow out of it. As he grew older, though, his “feminine” side became more apparent, in spite of what the parents did.

IOW, this little boy grew up to be quite flamming.

The point is, having watched this, I think the condition is something you’re born with.

Born with? I see you get your talking points directly from leftists.

There is no gay gene. There are no gay children.

How does a little boy (yes, a boy) know what clothes and other things are gender-identifying, unless his parents teach him that?

“The point is, having watched this, I think the condition is something you’re born with”

Sometimes it’s the coping strategy developed by a child after a trauma, but since the late 60’s biologists have had a fairly good grip on why it sometimes happens in mammals at large. It’s very easily and consistently replicated in the lab.

The template for mammalian brains is female. If estrogen is introduced into the womb prior to a males fetal testes being mature enough to start producing androgens, the estrogen will in one degree or another inhibit the brain’s ability to recognize the androgens. Subsequently, the masculine structures of the brain tend to be under-developed. Once born, that semi-female brain will conflict with the male body.

It’s pretty sad, really.

Wrong! It's a skirt if you are wearing undergarments. FWIW check out utilikilts

Or amerikilts

Amerikilts had pics of Eagles players in kilts. Utilikilts has great galleries too as well ad fantastic mock u mercials. I prefer amerikilt but the utilikilt workman is FANTASTIC!

I think it’s sad, too. I think most of us are a bit embarrassed around “flaming” gays, and those who want special rights because they are gay. Otherwise, we can live and let live.

I’m not a person who discusses her sexuality in what was once known as “ polite company.” Some things are just a bit too intimate and personal to discuss at large, IMHO.

“Many parents and clinicians now reject corrective therapy, making this the first generation to allow boys to openly play and dress (to varying degrees) in ways previously restricted to girls — to exist in what one psychologist called “that middle space” between traditional boyhood and traditional girlhood.” Reparative therapy never works on a child who strongly shows gender variance long before puberty. If they can’t be steered away from the behavior, they probably have some crossed wiring and are actually transgender.

I don't know that "reparative therapy" always works after a problem is out of control, but I am quite comfortable with attentive parenting, which does work. The first time one of my kids decided to be a dog longer than the normal playtime, in a manner that interfered with the next family activity, I put a decisive end to the game, and my child cooperated completely. It became "ice cream time" for the other kids, but dogs don't eat ice cream, they get a bowl of water. Doggie time died immediately. If one of my boys had wanted to wear a dress, I would have dropped whatever else was planned to lead the kids on an expedition following the creak to look at salamanders, tadpoles, and bugs (we did that often), or to climb one of our trees, or to make bread by hand (too messy for frills), or something, anything where a dress would NOT have been appropriate or even practical to join in. I don't think that would stifle whatever it is that makes kids gay, but cross dressing would be no fun at all if it got in the way of playtime. I imagine after freely choosing a couple times not to engage in that behavior, a boy would decide that wearing dresses did not make life more fun or draw more attention. Also, I normally do a lot with my kids, so they would not decided that threatening to dress up was a way to get my attention, it would just determine the type of attention they would get.

As for the kilt discussion, I've spent quite a bit of time in Scotland. Insulting a man in a kilt is not high on my list of things to try. The perverts would never wear a kilt because it is decidedly male and the whole point of being a transvestite is to wear something decidedly female, and those who would wear a kilt are 100% male, and usually tough.

Pray that the boy will eventually overcome the abuse and gender confusion heaped upon him by Christ-hating parents.

That’s good for him. I played make believe with my kids a lot and read them stories. The trick is to make sure they understand reality. Also, despite a lot of kids and some very scary bedtime stories, my kids never had trouble with nightmares.

I think that’s a really good way of dealing with it. Outright punishment or berating only makes the problem worse but that sly, gentle forcing them into the correct gender role is pretty intelligent.

I’m betting you’re a great parent.

This is on the parents.

Even girls/women don't wear dresses much in this day and age so the parents deliberately had to go out and buy them just for him.

Exactly what I was thinking. When kids pretend to be the Three Stooges, do you give them hammers? When they want to be Superman do you let them jump off the roof? No, you make sure they learn what is appropriate.

Giving in to a child’s every extravagant wish and whim is child abuse.
