"We have a national catastrophe," said Breggin. "This is a situation where we have ruined the brains of millions of children."

In controlling behavior, antipsychotics act on the frontal lobes of the brain -- the same area of the brain targeted by a lobotomy, Breggin said.

"These are lobotomizing drugs," he added. "Of course, they will reduce all behavior, including irritability," he said."

From Al Jazeera:
Mass psychosis in the US
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2747952/posts

Here’s what I posted on that thread:

I saw this whole Frontline a few years ago. Here’s a small portion of it on YouTube. It was a scary episode.

One poor kid had been on multiple drugs since he was four because he was hyper. As a teen he developed a permanent, uncontrollable head roll, but his family still had him on multiple meds.

The Wholesale Drugging of Children

Here is the first video of the complete episode—it shows the boy with the headroll. The parents act like they are victims, and maybe they are, but they could have told the teachers early on to go pound sand. I know it’s hard when the system is working on you each day, but if the kids don’t have their parents, the system will gladly step in. For this boy it had life altering consequences.

Schools are contrary to natural growth and learning. Disruptive behavior is only natural, so drug ‘em!

Public school system children should be medicated to the max so the pedagogues will have an easier time “educating” them.

Maybe Obamacare will take care of that.

It was easy to predict that once parents stopped parenting due to laziness and ignorance that those parents would find an excuse for their out of control kids. Here it is: “My kid is defective, not MY parenting!” This was coming down quickly by 1986 and is now in full force. Schools get more moeny for every child they can get on drugs so they make every excuse to do it.

Some parents have REAL out of contrl kids, such as with Aspergers. The vast majority of parents putting their kids on drugs is about their laziness and unwillingness to parent.

Use of powerful antipsychotic medications such as Abilify and Risperdal to control youngsters with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other behavior problems has skyrocketed in recent years, a new study finds.

Soon to be a medical reason for lawfully preventing the ownership of firearms.

I have taught at Suburban, Rural and Urban schools. One of them was an alternative school.

I can't tell you the number of parents that came in asking for a recommendation from me to have their (usually) son examined by a Doctor to be put on meds.

I agreed exactly one time.

I am not saying that the drugs are worthless. not at all. Sometimes the kids need them desperately, but rarely.

ah, Breggin’s comments are hyperbole and baloney

risperdal in combo with ADHD meds have made it possible for my ASD son to have a normal education experience for the past 7 years

Just shocking what those psychotropic drugs do to people.

There is a link that has been found {not by mental health experts} linking both childhood and adult Vestibular Disorders meaning Inner Ear and sensory processing disorders to ADD ADHD type symptoms and Anxiety Disorders.

The important part is you can not treat this with ADD ADHD or even antidepressant medications. Parents I say this as an adult now in my mid 50's who was diagnosed with ADD ADHD as a kid in the 1960's. Have your suspect of ADD ADHD children checked by an Audiologist trained to test for and diagnose Central Auditory Processing Disorders.

I'm going to give you some symptoms of it. You say Billy feed the dog and take off the trash. Billy either doesn't respond or says huh. You repeat it. Billy again either says huh or goes and takes out the trash or feeds the dog but not both. Or the third time it is as if a switch was thrown Billy gets it in the middle of your third time telling him. Billy doesn't have ADD ADHD. Billy doesn't need a spanking. Billy likely is not playing games. Rather the third time Billys brain processed the entire message. There is no medication for this.

You have to adapt to Billy's problem and work around it. When giving instructions do it face to face. Billy may be reading your lips and processing faster than the auditory can process.

Other possible things pointing to this is childhood history of chronic ear infections or sinus allergies. Poor eye and muscle coordination and even shoes breaking over the side is yet another due too the labyrinth {balance} being out of kilter and the feet and legs compensate for it making them break over.

There can also be hyperactive type symptoms. This can be sensory triggered. What was the child doing right before. A lack of concentration is also common to this. Concentration for some Vestibular patients can be 15 minutes productive book time a day. Concentration is much more difficult and can be physically exhausting. All of this also can apply to some forms of adult Anxiety Disorders. It can happen at any point in your life. In very extreme cases it can be disabling. Before taking an antidepressant if diagnosed with possible Panic Attacks or Anxiety have your doctor do a Vestibular work up. The medication used to treat it is Valium or Xanax.

Been There, Done That, and have over 18 years accumulated knowledge and experience as a patient of the beast.

I may get flamed for this, but I don’t give a frak...

ADHD is a sequencing disorder. The issue is a lack of the ability to distinguish levels of input, and then to properly process them in the appropriate order. The only REAL answer is training the child how to “pay attention” in the sequence expected by society.

Drugs, in a true therapeutic setting, are a tool to help the child focus. By rigorous training (guided by computer software designed to help reward correct stimulus response) the child can learn to overcome the lack of a filter.

But drugs, as an antidote, are crap. They do not solve the problem. They simply mask the symptoms.
