Doctors remove spider hiding in woman’s ear canal

woman who went to China's Changsha Central Hospital complaining of itching in the left side of her head was told by doctors that the source of irritation was a spider that had been living inside her ear canal for five days.

Doctors reportedly used a saline solution to flush out the spider in order to avoid having the spider burrow deeper inside the canal or bite her.

The flushing technique was successful and the woman reportedly wept with gratitude after being told the spider was removed. Doctors say they believe the spider entered the woman's home while the home was undergoing renovations, and crawled into her ear while she was sleeping.

A report by CNN states that spiders and other bugs are appearing in greater numbers this summer due to warm weather and drought conditions across the U.S.

Very much unexpected was her answer that what she was really getting weary of was treating folks with cockroaches in their ear canals.

Whether it's cockroaches in the ears or gunshot wounds to the head working in a big city ER can demoralize you more than you can possibly imagine.

We were called to a beetle in a kids ear some years ago. I took a flashlight and shined it in his ear and the beetle came to the light.

Haven’t had a spider in the ear call yet.

I'm sorry for your experience with the spider however a world without spiders would mean more of the kinds of bugs we'd be much better off without, like cockroaches , mosquitoes and flies, all of which carry a number of filthy diseases. Me, I like spiders.

The ending was epic. A female that laid eggs.

I don’t have an issue with spiders. But I’ve never had one crawl in my ear!

This story gives me the heebies AND the jeebies!

When I was a kid I had a deer tick attach to my ear drum. It was swelled with blood and the doctor had never seen that condition. My dad suggested 1 drop of kerosene. So with one drop of kerosene the tick released his desperate hold and he was removed and then squashed.

Later I was working in the ER when a young man came in. He had been riding in the rear of a pickup truck. It was a warm summer night. As the wind blew in his hair a June Bug must have hit just right and went into external acoustic meatus. Now a June Bug is a beetle with a rather hard exoskeleton. The bug wallowed around inside his ear for a long time until he got to the ER. He was screaming like a baby. He said the noise was so loud he could not stand it. Anyway I got some forceps and was able to grab the insect. But he was dug in. So, I had to morsellate the creature, then lavage it from the canal. He seemed grateful after his ordeal.

Just had a thought. I think the Actor was Lawrence Harvey.

As a kid, that was one of the scariest episodes I could remember.

Drought in the US is causing ear spiders in China?

Can this be countered by killing the butterfly that's flapping its wings in Walla Walla?

How do they know it was only there for 5 days? I’ve had parasites in my ear for as long as I have been listening to MSM.

“morsellate” / “lavage”

Two words I have never seen in print, and I'm an old geezer.

Now I have to figure out how to drop those words in a Political discussion.

As in, I hope we can “morsellate” Obama and “lavage” him from the Presidency. LOL Apparently, FR Spell Check doesn't do "morsellate", but what the heck do I know? I was a Banker, not a Doctor.

Two things I have read over the years.

1). you are never more than 10 feet from a spider no matter where you are in the world.

2). the average person swallows 5 spiders a year while sleeping.

I don’t know if they are proven, but I’ve actually woke up and spit out a spider or two in my life.

I tore him apart then washed the junebug out of the canal. And yes, that might be appropriate for Dear Leader. It was sort of an ear enema.

What kind of banker? I wrote a song about bankers....pretty good too. But it was about a specific type of banker....the kind that run the hedge funds. I like my friendly local banker....just not hedgefund managers.

Took the lid off my empty coffee cup this morning. Lo and behold, there was a dead spider down there - soaked in coffee. Cannot figure out how it got there; whether it was poured into my cup from the pot. I feel like I have extra special powers for the weekend.

I was actually a Regional Logistics Manager for B of A. (The Bank FReepers love to hate) I was the guy responsible for anything that needed to be moved within the Corporation. Anything from Airplanes to Armored Trucks moving Cash, Checks, Documentation and Paperwork.

Every time they wanted to get me out of Administration and into the Branch Banking system, I politely declined. LOL

I was pretty much a Banker's little helper. I gave them 32 years and took early Retirement before the job put me in an early grave. Two years later, I get diagnosed with CLL and the rest is history.

When I was a honey bee inspector in Iowa, one client wanted to take his elderly, blind, almost immobile father out to the yard. He promised to stand by the truck and enjoy the sunshine, sounds and smells.

Soon we heard him yelling. When we came back to him he said there was a bee stuck in his ear.

Sure nuf! There was a worker bee wedged inside his ear canal, head first, still alive, with stinger trying to sting, but was so tight in the ear it could not. If he would have been stung I think we would have had a bad situation as we were in an isolated area and it was before cell phones.

I asked the client what he had in his truck. All he had was a bottle of vodka under the seat. So I poured some in grandpa's ear and drowned the bee and got it out without incident.
