Next from the EPA: Four-Gallon-Minimum Gas Purchases : For ATVs and Motorcycles-

The Environmental Protection Agency is going to require all consumers to buy at least four gallons of gasoline from certain gas pumps after the new E15 ethanol-gasoline blend is introduced into the market.(/)

The new regulation was revealed in an Aug. 1 letter to the American Motorcyclist Association, which expressed concern that the vast majority of Motorcycles and ATVs in use today aren’t designed to operate on E15 fuel and residual fuel from a pump that serves multiple blends might harm these tanks.

“The use of E15 will lower fuel efficiency and possibly cause premature engine failure,” Wayne Allard, AMA vice president for government relations, wrote in a June 20 letter to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson. “Use of E15 fuel voids many manufacturer warranties. In off-road engines, the effects can even be dangerous for users.”

I think there should be even MORE EPA regulations along these lines. That’s why I’m going to either stay home on election day or vote for an obscure third party candidate. I’ll do anything to make sure that Romney isn’t elected. /sarc

“So they will flock to local airports to get 100LL while it is still available...”

The writing is on the wall. The EPA would love to ban ALL internal combustion engines, especially the ones used for the personal enjoyment of freedom.

We’re supposed to be herded into inefficient electric vehicles, the ones that only have enough range for getting us to our work locations, and maybe nearby chores. That way, we won’t let anything distract us from our prime directive of serving our betters through our labors.

If they can mandate us to buy health care, they can mandate us to buy gasoline.

Again, their asinine ideas hurt the poor. I am sure there are many people, especially now with gas prices can only afford a gallon or two to get themselves to work until they get paid again.

I wonder if local fire ordinances might require special storage for portable containers of gasoline greater than one or two gallons?

Unless you have a flex fuel vehicle, no car maker I know approves of using anything more than 10% ethanol blends and even the 10% blend is disaster in small engines. Has anyone at the EPA looked at the carbon footprint required to produce 1 gallon of ethanol? Ethanol is nothing but an expensive farm subsidy program and has done absolutely nothing to reduce our dependance on oil. Unfortunately many farm state members of Congress have become willing whores for the ethanol pimps.

Sounds to me like the EPA (cursed be their name and may a million camels stampede over their genitals) has admitted that E15 DOES destroy engines — without actually admitting it.
Hey, Mitt/Paul — add these morons to the list of bureaucracies to be dismantled, right behind DOE (BOTH of tbem), IRS, Labor, Commerce, most of State, and most of the rest of the alphabet soup sinecures for the private sector UNEMPLOYABLES in Malfunction Junction.

Some old BMW bikes had 6.3 and 6.1 gallon tanks.

http://w6rec.com/duane/bmw/tank/index.htm

And I think some of the big displacement superbikes get such poor mileage that they might have tanks over 5 gallons, but I’ve never actually checked on them.

But yeah, most bikes don’t have tanks anywhere near that big.

I guess the bike owners will need to wait until another customer buys more than 4 gallons of what the use in their bike instead of E15 and then use that same pump to fill their bike.

As usual, everything the government touches turns to s**t.

If you need gas with no alcohol, just wash it with a little water. The alcohol goes into the water, and the remaining gas is actually dryer than when you started. The only drawback is that you might lose a couple octane numbers.

My Yamaha actually holds 5, but I never run it down that low,my average fill-up is about 3 gallons, I never get it down to where I have to use the reserve.

I used to have a Honda ST-1300 that held 7 gallons. It had a 5 gal external tank and a 2 gal tank under the seat. 1 gal was needed to keep the fuel pump immersed. That bike had a heck of a range.

I did find it prudent however, to frequently top off with small amounts of gas especially when riding through long stretches of desert or other unfamiliar areas.

Many touring and sport-touring bikes have fairly large tanks. There are even some guys that mount an additional tank on the luggage rack/passenger seat area so they can really extend their riding range.

B I N G O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only took 12 posts to reach the proper conclusion.

For an agency responsible to end or at least reduce our need for foreign oil, the energy dept is a royal failure. The EPA is no help at all and could quite easily be ended. Only about 271 people in the right place could make it happen.

Where is that pathetic pussy John Boner to challenge this E15 insanity? The douchebag probably supports it.

Most if not all touring motorcycles have over 4 gallon tanks. 5-6 gallons is very common. Plus most long distance riders have auxiliary tanks that add even more

My Fat Bob has a 5 gallon tank, but I usually keep it above half full. Imposing minimum purchases is asinine. Imposing E15 is criminal.
