The only country in the world that burns food for fuel....utter stupidity.....

Probably most countries do now. Very little non-ethanol containing gas is sold here in Thailand.

20% ethanol (E20) was even introduced a while ago.

“I don’t know of any motorcycle that takes 4 gallons.”

Harley-Davidson big twins.

The FX bikes have 5 gallon tanks.

The touring models have 6 gallon tanks.

Now you know.

Although most riders are going to stop for fuel long before they’re down to the last gallon!

Stations may respond by having to dispense 2 gallons, calling it 4 and charging for 3. Such a deal!

Idiots are in charge at the EPA.

No, Communists are in charge of the EPA. And they get their marching orders from the head Commie.

No sarcasm in this post. These people would have been senior members of Joseph Stalin's government had they been born in Russia at that time.

I live on the coast of the GOM.

We have gasoline pumps around here that are marked "Marine Gasoline" and is 100% gasoline, no ethanol. It is available for use particularly for outboard boat engines.

It is more expensive but the increased gas mileage provides a 14% dollar savings for me in my truck. Many people use it in their cars instead of the ethanol crap. Gasoline with ethanol additives gives terrible gas mileage.

Idiots are in charge at the EPA.

They are the modern day Gestapo. They rule with out any administrative or legal oversight and take property at will should you not comply with their "rules".

Ethanol is nothing but an expensive farm subsidy program and has done absolutely nothing to reduce our dependance on oil.
Ethanol is nothing but a waste of good moonshine!

Moonshine returns as ethanol gas additive May 15, 2006

Am I the only person that understood this story?

Here’s the deal. The EPA UNDERSTANDS THAT E-15 WILL DAMAGE MOTORCYCLES AND OFF-ROAD VEHICLES!!!!

They’re saying that E-15 should NOT be disbursed in smaller quantities than 4 gallons, which would be the size of a fuel tank for a bike or off-road vehicle.

Of course, there’s really no way to protect these engines from dumb owners who use E-15 in them.

Will the EPA mandate that two gallon cans can't be filled at a gas station?

Jeeze! NO!!!

What they're saying is that if the station has a "blender" pump which is capable of dispensing both E-10 and E-15 from the same hose, is that the fuel with higher alcohol content will NOT be dispensed until AFTER 4 gallons of the lower content will be dispensed! The EPA is attempting to protect dumb consumers from damaging their small engines!

They're not saying you have to buy more than 4 gallons of gas!

We should have evicted all 535 the day they limited the amount of water I can flush.

That had unintended consequences, too. (backed up sewers in CA, iirc.)

"EPA requires that retail stations that own or operate blender pumps either dispense E15 from a dedicated hose and nozzle if able or, in the case of E15 and E10 being dispensed from the same hose, require that at least four gallons of fuel be purchased to prevent vehicles and engines with smaller fuel tanks from being exposed to gasoline-ethanol blended fuels containing greater than 10 volume percent ethanol.

Note that there is only one hose.

We'll say one button is for "regular" gas, one button is for E10, one button is for E15.
You want to buy good old "regular" gas.
Now just because you push that "regular" gas button it doesn't mean that "regular" gas is going to start flowing out of the nozzle when you "squeeze the trigger". There will still be E10/15 fuel in the pipes and hoses if the person ahead of you bought E10/15 fuel. You, as a consumer, have no way of knowing what that previous person bought!
So if there is only one hose for all fuel types they're saying that you'll have to buy at least four gallons to get the fuel you want as fuel will still be in the hose and the pipes from the underground storage tank.

They're not saying you have to buy more than 4 gallons of gas!
Yep, you're right, but you have to buy at least four gallons of a type of fuel that you don't even want and which may potentially damage ATV's, motorcycles and older cars, before you even get the fuel you do want.

What are you going to do with those first four gallons of fuel that you don't want in your gas tank?

@ Does Fuel Get Left in the Gas Pump Hose?According to the American Petroleum Institute the gas-pump hose typically retains about one third of a gallon of fuel.
They answered the question they were asked.

Notice that they don't mention how much fuel is still in the connecting piping. Most people don't even think about that.

That's what the four gallons is all about. You clear the hose and the piping.
