I had a friend who was a writer on the show. He thought Horshack and the guy who played the principal were genuinely good actors. At the time, Travolta was wearing a wig on the show because he was shooting Saturday Night Fever and had his hair cut short. We certainly didn’t know he was to become a superstar.

Mr. Woodman, the Vice Principal, was my favorite character on that show.

I went to a taping of Welcome Back Kotter once. Each actor was introduced and came out to applause...Horshack, Boom Boom, Epstein, etc. Then the announcer said, "And now...the gorgeous sex symbol you've all been waiting to see!" The audience went wild, thinking Travolta was about to come out. Instead, out came Mr. Woodman, basking in the applause! Funny I still remember that humorous moment, all these years later.

Yes. I LMAO when Jerry Seinfeld had him in one episode as a "library cop".
Talk about perfect casting..

Oops.. My mistake. Mr. Woodman was NOT Mr. Bookman, the library cop on Seinfeld.
Two different actors.

Hi, I went looking for your "Lunatic Fringe" you mentioned to me and found this.

It's *frightening* -- I instinctively knew Weiner reminded me of someone, and you put your finger on it!

(I hope you wore gloves...)

Cheers!
