Thanks to Gov. Palin, The Democrats are Stuck with Uncle Joe – Update: Jay Carney Takes a Swipe at Palin

Posted on August 16 2012 - 2:37 AM - Posted by:

Don’t look to Andrea Saul or Kevin Madden to be this clever.

But even I have to admit, when Palin threw out a suggestion to the Obama campaign Tuesday night with Greta Van Susteren to replace Joe Biden, I scratched my head.  In response to Biden’s latest “disgusting comment,” Palin said the following:

Greta if that’s not the nail in the coffin — really the strategists there in the Obama campaign have got to look at a diplomatic way of replacing Joe Biden on the ticket with Hillary and I don’t want to throw out that suggestion and have them actually accept the suggestion because then an Obama and Hillary Clinton ticket would have a darn good chance of winning but really Joe Biden really drags down that ticket.

Immediately, the liberals at Mediaite responded by posting the headline – and their liberal commenters had a field day.  Similarly, the Huffington Post covered it, and 2,768 hysterical comments later, the liberals are still ranting.  Other mainstream outlets like ABC covered it as well.  McCain even came out to say it, too!

Obama came out today to respond, dismissed the idea, and further attempted to pathetically excuse Biden’s “chains” remark.

In less than a day, Palin set a trend.  Liberals were even crankier than usual and Republicans were unexpectedly quiet.  After all, she literally suggested what would be beneficial to Obama.

As we all know, Obama is a drag.  We also know that Romney’s been lackluster.  Neither has been able to energize their bases.  That changed for Romney when he announced Paul Ryan as his V.P. nominee.  Suddenly donations poured in.  After a full day, Romney managed to raise $3.5M!  No, it’s not the $7M McCain raised after announcing Palin but still, it’s a larger surge of energy than Obama has yet to capture in 2012′s campaign.

Further, Romney and Ryan got rallies which were impressive in size –like the crowd of 10K in North Carolina!  Again, not really the 60K Palin got in Florida, but it’s still more energy than Obama has been able to gin up this year.  As it stands now, Romney and Ryan have a clearer shot than ever before of picking up some battleground states and putting themselves on a path to victory and moving us a step further to better days for America.

If Obama decided he needed a wild card to energize his base, what’s he going to do?  Take advice from Sarah Palin?  How would his base respond?  The following article which describes Palin as a “smart political operator” via the Hayride says it pretty well:

So just in case the Democrats might think about making a switch to Hillary, along comes Sarah Palin to suggest it.

And now they can’t do it even if they wanted to. Obama can’t be seen as taking advice from Sarah Palin.

[…]

So she’s helping the Romney ticket by writing Biden off. The Romney ticket wants Biden right where he is.

You can read the whole thing here.

So thanks to Palin, it appears that Obama is (for the lack of a better phrase) chained to Joe Biden for this go around.

The response from the left is not at all conspicuous.  Enjoy!

Update by Stacy: Jay Carney took a swipe at John McCain and Governor Palin during his press conference today, after being questioned about the possibility of Joe Biden leaving the Democrat ticket. He responded:

“One place I would not go for advice on presidential running mates is John McCain.”

I’m sure they wouldn’t, considering that the record of the person John McCain did pick in 2008, doesn’t fit with the overall strategy of the Obama administration. No, a person who cut spending by 9.5%, reduced earmarks by 80%, used the line item veto to reduce spending, encouraged energy development while taking taking on oil industry cronies, wouldn’t be a good match for the modern Democrat party under Obama.

The important thing about Carney’s remark is that the Obama campaign is now completely stuck with crazy uncle Joe for the 2012 election cycle.

(H/T: John Frank)

Update II by Stacy: Here’s proof that noted David Dewhurst backer, Michael Reagan shouldn’t be listened to in Republican circles. This morning, he tweeted out the following:

Someone tell McCain and Palin just shut up about Hillary replacing Biden.Ok I will!Shut up!

For one thing, that was extremely rude, but more importantly, it’s politically ignorant. Regardless if there were ever any active talks with Democrats about replacing Joe Biden, that option is now off the table for good. The card has been removed from the deck by Governor Palin, with some help from her old running mate.

Another aspect that Michael isn’t considering is that it is good for Republicans to have Joe Biden in the news. Extremely good in fact. Our Vice President is a walking gaffe machine. He makes the administration look bad. Getting the media to stop talking about Romney’s tax returns, and turning the focus back on to Joe is a win for the Romney campaign.

Finally, it was pure genius of Governor Palin to bring this up because it also reminded Hillary Clinton supporters what happened to her in 2008. Many of whom are still angry over the way she was treated by Obama’s people during that primary, and then snubbed as his vice presidential pick. Ripping the scab off of that wound is not good for Democrat unity before a major general election.

Bravo, Governor!

If Biden had suddenly today suggested he was having a lot of headaches, and needed to resign for his health, that would have been another Palin coup.

I think it was FDR who said, nothing in politics is accidental.

It’s just easier to manage things when you are a lib, because the press aids you, as opposed to a conservative, where you have to trick them.

It was OK for Cheney to mention what he thought of Sarah being ‘chosen’ as VP - here we had 4 years of Biden and his continual gaffe’s and she can’t make a comment? She was the ONLY ONE who could. I hope you are reading this Cheney and why no mention of Biden who IS the VP? Doing mitt’s dirty work makes you look like a COWARD!

Go SARAH. When you speak THE WORLD listens! That’s power!

WELL put. I saw that McCain, also, while laughing said bamster should replace Joe with Piaps and a lot of the media is saying McCain caused the flap and ignored Palin. They just can't stand the fact that she's one of the smartest politician around. She just sits back and poke, poke, poke.... stir and agitate. Isn't it brilliant? I just love it. And it's always nice to see more attractive GOP women in contrast with the ‘ahem...’ not so attractive dem women.

if they had that in their plans there is no way they can do it now because then they would
look like they were taking Palins advice. Or at least it would look that way because
she brought it out first in public. Plus she told viewers that Clinton added to the
ticket would certainly help the Dems this election.

The Democrat newsrooms convinced Americans that Palin was out of the mainstream, and stupid, and whatever. Many in the scumbag Republican establishment eventually came to buy into that propaganda. Then the Democrat “mainstream” newsrooms convinced Americans that homosexual “marriage” was inevitable, and the right thing to do.

Then, last week, the lines at Chic-Fil-A, in support of traditional American values, were down the street and around the block. The Democrat newsrooms gnashed their teeth in disappointment and confusion. Meanwhile, the scumbag GOP establishment is still scratching its effing head in a different kind of confusion, the kind only the truly stupid can suffer.

Palin has the magic though, she has some secret to cutting through the fog, and penetrating the media.

Giuliani can say it, but Palin can say it where people hear it, and she can make it happen, she drives Obama insane, and knows how to get her message out to the public. Palin has much more ooomph.

Remember during the 2008 campaign when Obama, running for president, got caught up for weeks in engaging the GOP vice-presidential candidate, even the media was publicly trying to tell him that you can’t let that happen, it was bizarre, and something that we had never seen.

Sarah was a genius for bringing up Clinton, the moment she did it I knew exactly what she was doing and it was pure brilliance. Its the Reverse Psychology technique, parents do it with their children all the time and it works! Sarah didnt suggest replacing Biden with Clinton because she wanted Obama to do it, she said it so that he wouldn’t do it. Everyone knows Dems will NEVER take advice from Sarah Palin, they would rather slit their own wrists than give her credit for anything..now they are stuck with watermelon head Biden, no leave of absence due to “Medical reasons” they are stuck with him and once again Sarah plays these liberal fools like a fiddle and they are too stupid to realize they have been played

Giuliani saying Biden should be replaced did not make any difference to the press or Obama. They couldn't care less what Juan McCain has to say either. Only Sarah Palin has been demonized so completely that the Democrats and media have inadvertently given her this power that she now has demonstrated she knows how to use. I have been laughing about it all day.

If poor Joe “unexpectedly” keels over into the grave, the dems could “unexpectedly” replace him with the Hildabeast, O riding to victory on the 110% sympathy vote.

The upside to that miserable theory is that O would forever require a food taster. (Now there’s a worthwhile job for Michelle.)

I could see it work out this way though:

There is a report that Obama had been putting out feelers a couple weeks ago to see if Hillary would be interested in replacing Biden. Apparently she wasn’t.

This report could have been planted so that if a change is made, and if Hillary suddenly changes her mind (or so they would have us believe), then the White House can say that this started long before Palin or McCain or anyone else of prominence brought it up. Obama led the way, he didn’t follow anyone’s lead. He saw signs that Biden was becoming more erratic, more forgetful. Also he worried that the strain of an intense re-election battle might worsen matters for his friend and VP.

Therefore Biden may at some point simply resign, citing noticeable lapses in his memory as evidenced by some of his recent gaffes (wrong state, wrong century). Saying that after much soul-searching he finally realized that he now is no longer fit to serve as President should the need arise, that the stress of campaigning was becoming too much. But most of all he believes that Hillary would be the perfect person to stand at Obama’s side during the difficult days ahead.

So then Hillary rides in to help save the day. Biden receives sympathy. The general public will say that Obama didn’t really have a choice, it was becoming apparent to everyone that a change needed to be made not only for the sake of the ticket but also for the country.

The only sand in the plans that you describe, that an outsider could have thrown in, would be the way that Palin did it.

She doesn’t control Obama’s decision, but she sure messed it up by putting herself into the mix if he does it.
