Baldness Cure Which Reverses Genetics Could Be On The Market In Two Years
The Daily Mail ^ | 8-19-12 | Sara Malm

A cure for baldness may be available on the market sooner than previously thought after a breakthrough in negotiations between scientists and drugs companies. Scientists at the University of Pennsylvania believe they have discovered the reason for baldness, an enzyme which shuts down hair follicles.

The real crapper will be if they come out with a cure but only for babies in the womb...current guys are SOL. That would suck a big one.

I've been lucky to have a full head of hair but just starting to get some small patches of back hair...Hate it. My gf is getting tired of shaving it off for me every week.

Lazer treatments planned for this fall.

Why do research on baldness over illnesses? That is simple, people with disposable income are willing to pay for it. That it is not covered by insurance ensures that it won’t become a political football.

I’m not sure that FrogDad would partake, but our daughter sure as hell would.

She just turned 43 and has been getting thinner on top for about 5 years, now.

My mother and grandmother both have/had very thin hair, too. Fortunately, mine is still thick.

Women would be big time users of this procedure!

You know, before I answer any more questions there's something I wanted to say. Having received all your letters over the years, and I've spoken to many of you, and some of you have traveled... y'know... hundreds of miles to be here, I'd just like to say... GET A LIFE, will you people? I mean, for crying out loud, it's just a TV show! I mean, look at you, look at the way you're dressed! You've turned an enjoyable little job, that I did as a lark for a few years, into a COLOSSAL WASTE OF TIME!

I mean, how old are you people? What have you done with yourselves?

You, you must be almost 30... have you ever kissed a girl?

I didn't think so! There's a whole world out there! When I was your age, I didn't watch television! I LIVED! So... move out of your parent's basements! And get your own apartments and GROW THE HELL UP! I mean, it's just a TV show dammit, IT'S JUST A TV SHOW!

Patrick Stewart was asked about this on a talk show, way back when. he said that in the 25th century, people had come to not care about whether or not someone was bald.

if this wasn't the case, and we as a society had advanced to the point where we could transform any such things... all women would be walking around with trout pout, p0rn boobs, kardashian-butts, and rail thin. men would be 6 feet tall, thick afro's, 2% body fat, and 12" ... err.. well, you get the point.

of course, the people that would do that would be sexual beings with little to no intellectual capacity.

Viagra was initially studied for use in hypertension and angina and not ED. The drug had little effect on those conditions but that it could induce marked penile erections.

I suspect if there is a cure for baldness it will come out the same way..maybe that is how they found this supposed "cure"..trying to find a cure for something else and just saw what happened to hair on mice.

Why not promote it?

Give me the largest one in Alpha Quadrant’, and so that’s what the Doc did, but with an adjustment allowing DUAL PURPOSE so he could walk!

Once the cure is found, the insurance companies and medical field will want a piece of the pie, and the lotion will go for $5,000 a tube. Of course they will water it down and tell ya you needed a series of 20 tubes over a year period to the cure to work.

I think it is all tied together. If you go bald on top, you gain plenty more on your ears, nose, back and shoulders. It certainly happened to me. I was able to grow back most of my hair with Minoxidil and Proscar, but still have the hairy ears and back.
Anyway, all of this crap is caused by Dihydrotestosterone, or DHT. Evil stuff. It is a testosterone byproduct that causes all of the symptoms I listed. If you produce a lot of testosterone, you produce a lot of DHT.

As a woman, I cannot understand why you guys get all bent out of shape about baldness. It has no, repeat, NO effect on your attractiveness. Most women over thirty are not turned off by it. I wish you would all relax. It’s not a matter of “we love you anyway” i a pitying way, but of “we think you’re hot even if without hair on your head.” Seriously. Not just saying it; it’s true. Fussing with hair is a feminine trait so you don’t seem as sexy if you’re all upset and worried and regretful about whatever is or is not growing on your head. Stop.

The death of small "hairs" in the ear is one of the reasons people become deaf. Hearing loss is one of the most common disabilities.

If you can grow hair on the scalp you can use the same technique to grow back the hairs in the ears.

Still think it is something scientists should not be looking into?

Gotta agree with you. Bald heads can be sexy for men. We gals OTOH, not so much. My hair was coming out by the handfull and I asked my doc about it. He said “Biotin”. So I got the Biotin and started taking it. My hair stopped falling out. I don’t think much grew back in, but it did stop falling out. Might work to help slow down hair loss for guys who are just starting to lose hair.

After doing some more research, I found that I was right about the fact that DHT is the cause of more body hair and less head hair, but it is NOT a byproduct of testosterone. Apparently, it is a byproduct of not having enough testosterone. It is evil stuff, though. It is why you see a lot of fat bald guys with hairy shoulders/backs/chests, and thin guys with plenty of head hair and no chest/back/shoulder hair (genetic lotto winners). I think I am going to up my Proscar dose after reading more about this nasty hormone. Yikes.

In your case, I guess you are producing DHT in just the right amount to cause hair growth in other places, but not enough to make your head hair fall out. Lucky! I have to eat less than 1k calories a day and zero carbohydrates to stay in the just overweight category, use a couple of different drugs to keep my head hair, and shave my ears every few days. The other body hair I can live with. If I let my ears go, I look like I'm wearing earmuffs after a couple of weeks. I'm 42 - 15 days younger than soon-to-be VP Paul Ryan. He's skinny and has a serious head of hair - and it isn't even turning grey! Yet another genetic lotto winner. Although I don't think he eats carbs, either. I have been living with this crap since my early 20s, and I was bald by 28. Thank heavens for Minoxidil and Proscar!

A lot of women who are losing hair do so as part of thyroid problems. This is easy to fix. Hormonal fluctuations—going on birth control pills, coming off them, getting pregnant, giving birth, nursing—can cause hair loss as well. And sudden stresses can do it, too.

I agree with you in a lot of cases. As I stated there are a lot of women who think its hot. I have a very thin hairline and I shave my head almost all the way down. However, there are some women that look at you like you are the hunchback of Notre Dame. Funny, seems like those are the always the ones who have themselves rated a notch or two above where they really are. So the feeling is mutual.

This treatment is for Androgenic Alopecia. Patrick Stewart does not suffer from this, most common form of hairloss, but rather from the auto-immune condition Alopecia Areata with the rather rare reverse ophiasis pattern. TFG B2 suppression is probably more effective there.

DHT is separate hormone from testosterone, although it is produced 5a reductace acting on testosterone. There are 16 year old boys with Androgenetic Alopecia. The condition is not caused by a lack of testosterone. It is also not caused purely by DHT, otherwise all 16 years old boys would be balding. There are a number of factors including inflammation, dmage to the skin and hair, and genetics in Androgenic/Androgenetic Alopecia. TGF B2 and ProstglandinD2 pathways do play a role. Men in poor shape tend to bald earlier because they are epigenic nightmares. Also high glucose and A1C levels correlate with inflammatory damage to the hair follicles in both Androgenic Alopecia alone, but especially in Androgenic Alopecia in women who have PCOS, where this has been studied.

I'm not an amateur here.

This is probably one of the biggest contributors to people with thinning hair (even some baldness cases). This is a very common topic on fitness forums and similar magazines. People have no idea how much their being out of shape/eating crappy processed or junk food contributes to their hair loss.

Very common topic, nearly every day men and women will bring up how their hair came back fuller, shinier, stopped falling out abnormally from eating right and working out which takes away stress and helps keep hormones and body chemicals in check
