Americans tune out Afghan war as fighting rages on

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - It was once President Barack Obama's "war of necessity." Now, it's America's forgotten war.

The Afghan conflict generates barely a whisper on the U.S. presidential campaign trail. It's not a hot topic at the office water cooler or in the halls of Congress - even though more than 80,000 American troops are still fighting here and dying at a rate of one a day.

Americans show more interest in the economy and taxes than the latest suicide bombings in a different, distant land. They're more tuned in to the political ad war playing out on television than the deadly fight still raging against the Taliban. Earlier this month, protesters at the Iowa State Fair chanted "Stop the war!" They were referring to one purportedly being waged against the middle class.

By the time voters go to the polls Nov. 6 to choose between Obama and presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney, the war will be in its 12th year. For most Americans, that's long enough.

The left bemoaned every "grim milestone" when Bush was in office. Now that Obama is in office, they feel free to ignore the war and hey, they never really cared about soldiers anyway.

Do the RoE in Afghanistan actually allow fighting?

Get us the HELL out of there. Leave those sand monkeys to their own devices. They will never be a people that will accept democracy; their tribal alliances will never go away. Let them swelter and starve in their own ignorance.

To many of our brave troops have died in this worthless cause.

Americans haven't tuned it out. There is no where to tune it in.

Normally:

The useful idiots in the media would be harping on the war, telling us how bad it is, how we shouldn't be there, how our troops are invaders, murderers, rapists, looters and kickers of puppies too. Then they would show caskets of dead soldiers being returned home.

The media types would generally be doing everything they could to put the war and the warriors in a negative light and in front of as many sheeple as possible - all while blaming the "quagmire" on the administration.

They WOULD do all that but currently the administration is Democrat. So all we get are {crickets}.

And we know what the "anti war" protesters really mean when they are protesting:

"No war unless a Democrat is president!"

Poison the wells and salt the earth on our way out. Make it the most desolate place on the face of the earth. See if Al qaeda still wants to train there
