Palm Springs, California - This stray kitten was stuck in the bumper of a Dodge minivan and survived a 25-mile drive to Palm Springs and an attack by four pit bulls, who mauled the car's bumper. It has been named Fender Lynx.

A pack of pit bulls ripped through the front of a Southern California man’s minivan in a stunning display of force that would make Cujo cringe.

So what drove the dogs to such destruction? A kitty stuck in the bumper area, Palm Springs police Sgt. Mike Kovaleff said Tuesday.

The unidentified owner of the Dodge minivan was parked at his home in Banning when he saw the damage to his vehicle Monday morning, according to CBS affiliate KESQ in Palm Springs.

Same thing happened to me once but it was a pack of Feral Chihuahuas that attacked my 85 Fiero...

(And it should be noted that "Feral Chihuahuas" would make an awesome name for a punk rock band [/Dave Barry])

SOo glad kitten survived. One tenant in this complex purposely let his pit bull loose to kill a friendly feral cat I was feeding. I am still traumatized. He moved away...which is why i am not in jail.

And to what cretin or group of cretins did this pack of killer dogs belong?

The people who own and train these things to fight are scarier than the dogs.

I watched one of these idiots walk his pit bull down my block for several months, on a large chain - like he was projecting his masculinity through it.

I think they could be better used to teach Michael Vick what a scum feeding lowlife he is.

Oh, come on those wonderful, gentle, friendly pooches were just trying to rescue the kitty.

This would not have happened if the EPA did’t require are cars to be made of plastic. Just saying.

Although the car had a flat, the man drove to work in Palm Springs about 25 miles away

WTF?

Glad the kitty survived. Hopefully the new owners will keep the kitty indoors for his safety.

I had a similar neighbor about a year ago. I was out front one day when he was walking his pit – without a leash. I went down to my knees and let the dog sniff my hand. I gently rubbed his snout and ears. We became friends.
His owner wasn’t happy. He thought he had a badassed guard dog but the dog always greeted me with a tail wag and hand lick.

I’ve got a retarded fellow in the next apartment block who likes to leave his aggressive bully breed mix off-leash if he sees anyone out with small pets. So far nothing has happened because I carefully check for the presence of this idiot and his pet before going out. But I now carry when walking my dogs.

That’s always a wise approach, but you must be gifted in that direction. I’m not sure I would have made an overture to a pit bull.

Makes sense. The Fiero was kind of chihuahua-like.

I have been told, repeatedly, that attacks like this are rare.

Everyone always assumes the worst where pits are involved. Has anyone considered that the dogs may have been trying to HELP the kitty, by rescuing her from being entrapped in the bumper?
