New study says full-frontal nudity on prime-time TV up 6,300 percent over last year

Maybe not.

The Parents Television Council (PTC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating parents about television content, has released a new study looking at nudity on prime-time broadcast television which reveals a major increase over the 2011-2012 season.

The study found that there were 76 incidents of full nudity on 37 shows compared to 15 incidents in 14 shows the previous ratings season, representing a 407 percent rise in incidents. Almost 70 percent of the scenes that featured such nudity were on shows which aired prior to 9pm, compared to 50 percent of the full nudity scenes which aired before 9pm during the 2010-2011 season.

In addition, the study says only five of the 76 full-nudity depictions contained an “S” descriptor to warn parents to the explicit nature of the episode.

But perhaps the most jaw-dropping finding was in regard to full-frontal nudity. While just one incidence of this occurred during the 2010-2011 study period, 64 documented full-frontal incidences occurred this past season, a 6,300 percent increase .

Examples of the content used to illustrate this point included a scene from ABC’s “Don’t Trust the B- in Apartment 23” in which Chloe sits on the kitchen counter – her breasts, buttocks, and genitals pixilated. On “Suburgatory,” George and Noah argue in the steam room and Fred opens his towel, his genitals pixilated. NBC’s “The Office” contained a scene in which Robert jumps into the pool during a party, his genitals blurred, and on “America’s Got Talent,” Nick Cannon takes a camera behind-the-scenes and knocks on Howie’s trailer. He invites him in despite being totally naked, where his genitals are blurred out.

A full breakdown of the study can be viewed here.

Melissa Henson, director of communications for the PTC, said the findings didn't surprise her.

When it comes to nudity, Europeans are prone to observing that Americans are ... prudes.

Must be a slow news day. If it's blurred out, that means it is not shown, doofus.

This is the logical end result of the liberal model of television drama and comedy. They need to keep “pushing the limits” to keep people interested. Look back at what was “edgy” sexual banter in the 70s and it sounds almost quaint — you could get giggles by just suggesting two people were going to have sex. Now you need full frontal nudity to keep people interested. Give it 20 years and they'll have people having sex on TV with a small amount of pixilation. And people will be board with it. Titillation is no substitute for good writing.

The nakedest movie I have ever seen was rated PG.

Tanya Roberts in “Sheena”. As one might guess, it was an awful movie. I will say Tanya was a well formed girl.

Major contributers to this would be Starz network Spartacus and Magic City. ;)

From the article:
"Simulated or blurred nudity can be just as titillating as real nudity in the human brain. Upon any stimulus, the brain searches for anything remotely similar or familiar, and reacts in a similar manner," she said. "If something is missing -- as in pixelization -- the brain will fill in the blanks from the existing storehouse of knowledge. Indeed, it will work harder to do so than if the real image were there..."

The shows which do more harm than most are the ones like “Seinfeld” in which casual sex is treated as totally proper and normal.

The fact that it can be really funny does not change the fact that it harms the nation.

You should know that this sort of post cuts into the amount of time that Freepers have for bashing Todd Akin.

That makes it both hugh and series.

The most risque show I'm willing to watch is Gilligan's Island. It was always running into trouble with the censors over Mary Anne's midriff and Ginger's breasts.

The human obsession with its own genitalia is passing strange and I suppose it is the result of a twisted appetite for titillation.

A little bit of flesh uncovered will, however, cover over a lot of missing talent.

So, PTC doesn't really have much in the way of nudity so they're going after pixellation as the latest evil?

What's next - bra ads in the JCPenney catalog?

Because they are socialists. There societies are imploding because of years of subversion and corruption as Yuri explains. Fill the heads with worthless distractions—sex—so to take complete power of government.

Go to around 12 minutes if you don’t have time to understand how they are destroying children’s minds in schools-—to create adults who are sex obsessed and have no interest in physics, religion or moral principles-—which will destroy culture (like the vulgar Weimar Republic where homosexuality was the “National Vice”.

We should “learn” from European bankrupt thinking which is nihilism and destroying the remnants of a great Christian past of Milton and Shakespeare.

full front nudity means only female bodies.....the media is oh so careful not to show the men’s parts....gee... wouldn’t want to humiliate them like they do the females..or make them sexual objects....no, wouldn’t want to do that...

naked man goes running across the football field at the saturday afternoon high school football game

“titillating”? No. Throw a blankie over the kids? No.

context, context, context - that's what makes for “titillation”

and worse than either “nudity” or even “full frontal nudity”?

language; overt and/or suggestive language; foul, filthy language in scenes where “everything is covered up” but the context could not be more prurient if it tried

that's “titillation”; not mere nudity, or even full frontal nudity

when it's funny, it's funny; not “titillating”; when it's serious, it's “titillating”

Back in 1969, as an adult I saw a movie that was kid safe.

I saw that same movie on TV not long ago and WOW! THAT wasn’t in the movie when I saw it.

I did some research. The movie was released in early 1969 in AUSTRIA, and a later release in the US.

What I saw on TV not long ago must have been the European release as at that time as movies for European release had extra scenes of nudity shot.

I ordered Sheena thinking it would be a good children’s movie.

Decided to watch it first and boy was I surprised. It had frontal, backal and sidal nudity. I understand that it wasn’t in a sexual situation but PG?

***I understand that it wasn’t in a sexual situation but PG?***

When ROMEO AND JULIET was released in 1968 it had an R rating as this was just after the murder of Robert Kennedy and the movies were trying to deflect blame away from them.

Rated R due to a 1/2 second of Juliet’s nipple and breast.

Today the movie is rated PG.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063518/parentalguide

I also saw the Jim Brown movie RIOT, Rated R about the same time. I saw it on cable TV not long ago and it was re-rated PG-13.

The movie I mentioned in my post was HEAVEN WITH A GUN rated M.(Remember that rating?) There was NO nudity in it.

I saw it on STARZ not long ago and it had nude scenes added that would not have even been allowed back in 1969. If it had, it would have been rated a heavy R. ( and I might have sat through it several times! ;-D)

I believe that movie came out just before the advent of the “PG-13” rating. Usually excessive sex, violence, and/or profanity (particularly F-bombs) were required to get an R rating prior to that time. For example, one of my favorite movies, “Emperor Of North” (1973), has every cuss word except the F-word and some bloody moments as well and was rated PG. All of the James Bond movies were also rated PG until “Licence To Kill” in 1989. Since then, they have all been PG-13.

Apparently some movies want that “R” rating.

I watched “Chariots of Fire” and saw nothing which would have kept it from being a G rating. Then maybe the third or fourth time I saw it, I noticed a very quick shot of a guy completely away from the action in a shower. Just a second of so of his back. That had to have been put it in just to get the “R” rating.
