We stayed in a Lubbock Texas hotel this weekend which had several on their cleaning staff from Hungary. I inquired with the front desk and the clerk said they were on Visas due to an exchange program. I understood her to say the work program allows companies like Windham provide jobs to foreign residents who would like to relocate to the US. Does anyone know anything about this program? Sounds strange to me. One of the housemaids mentioned them and claimed that the citizen staff hours had been reduced in order to hire these Hungarians.
It could be worse; they could have been Mexicans.

Haha! No they appeared to need a phrase book, used minimum English and spoke to each other in Hungarian.
I don’t know any specifics but we have them in Galveston. Good looking young people that work in restaurants as waitresses etc.
A few months ago I did do a search online about this and did find information. It turned out to be a summertime program to help with staffing shortfalls and gives the “kids” a taste of America.
They all tend to look like 18-20 year olds.
Used to be that American college students took Summer jobs to help pay for their educations. For some crazy reason I guess crushing student debt is now preferable.
Seriously, temporary visa people will soon be staffing hospitals, clinics and doctor's offices.
These people look older than 20, maybe 25-35, but I am not the best at guessing ages. And I don’t think it was a getting to know us but she said it was a work visa to help them stay here.
Probably a different program. This program was for college age students and was accessed by people from mostly eastern European countries.
The one I am talking about seemed to be for temporary employment during the summer.
There are dozens and dozens of immigrant programs, and have been for many, many years. I’d estimate that of my immigrant IT co-workers (who aren’t illegals) they are in dozens of programs. In fact most illegals are on some waiting list to join one of those programs and become legal.
I ask my immigrant co-workers what their immigration status is and they say it is “in progress”.. which to me, means they ain’t got diddly.
Ask them to cook. You won’t be disappointed. Seriously.

I’m part Hunky. They think they’re Italians, but they invented Italianess. Good folks. Lotsa immigrants around the turn o the century (1900’s). Did the menial jobs, assimilated and worked their way up. Boy, can they cook and party. Look up Karoly Gundel for cooking. Budapest is one of the prettiest cities in the world.
