Word For The Day, Monday, 8/27/12
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
verb (used with object) 1. to grant or give, as by favor, graciousness, or condescension: to vouchsafe a reply to a question. 2. to allow or permit, as by favor or graciousness: They vouchsafed his return to his own country.
Etymology: 12751325; Middle English phrase vouche sauf. See vouch, safe
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Here is my example with WFTD.
OH look, the Dems have vouchsafed a speaking slot for Scumbag Crist at their convention.

No pushing at the door please!
how was the movie? you saw it on Sat too?
Good morning yourself! First day of middle school today.
Upon appeal, the first-base umpire did vouchsafe his agreement with the call at home plate
did they have to send it to Toronto for review? ; ) A+++
Good movie. Very chilling. Most of the information would already be known to people like us though.
I especially liked how he used audio clips from BHO’s own book to make the points.
Can we count on the GOP to vouchsafe our already inalienable rights?
Has he changed his name legally?
Of course, kangaroos — and marsupials generally — have a pouchsafe instead.
audience ? crowded? reaction at the end?
We can, but we'll end up disappointed.
A+++ because there really ARE no republicans who would become obamabots this time. unless you count the FR purist, who are defacto for Obama.
A+++ what tagline did you have censored? what can’t we say here now?
had it tattooed on his forehead i believe.
A+++ I am trying to moveon.org from worrying about MO. But Huck has earned even more contempt from me with his attempting to use scripture to defend that mortal moron in MO.
"Zerobama -- a phony and a prick, therefore a dildo."
(repeated for purposes of historical accuracy only)
Audience for the Saturday evening show was much smaller than I expected. It was an older crowd.
The only loud reaction at the end was some young? guy mentioning voting Libertarian.
not entirely sure, but the odds are better than hoping that the DEMS will do it! A+++
(shrug) can’t win ‘em all, I guess...
you had that one for awhile and then suddenly it was banned?
so she’s in big girl school now? ; )
xsbaby worked the PAKISTAN festival yesterday out in Manassas, VA, with the Fairfax Co Republicans, with a Romney/Ryan, Allen, Wolf, Perkins etc. booth. George Allen was there, i guess wearing his hairshirt for the macaca moment. xshub had us roaring when he came back from picking her up, said that he’d passed the Sharia law booth, where you could 3 chances to stone a woman for $5, and the IED building booth, etc. So i told my SIL this and her reaction was OMG, that’s wild! she totally believed it.
I never knew until then that FR allowed the "heckler's veto". However, it's Jim's site and his rules must prevail.
it was extremely clever, of course the world is loaded with killjoys. and FR has their fair share.
Hmmmn. So, according to the democratic media, the Social Security and Medicare lockboxes are now definitely vouchsafer after Obama takes 734 million dollars from Medicare?
Saw a vouch safe selling on late nite t.v. for three easy payments of $19.95 (a value of over $100 not even counting the lifetime spud peeler and nose hair trimmer!).
A vouch safe goes under the cushions of the couch where the dog normally sleeps unless James R. is home on parole.
It’s just a metal lock box fitted into the springs and 2x4’s holding the couch up and nobody in their right mind would reach under a hound what foams at the mouth like Ol’ Scabby does.
Now you ask, I knew you would, why not “couch safe”? Good question... wellll c and v are real close togather ont the board and sometimes Milo has a way too much CV for breakfast to tell one from the other and couch safe turns into vouch safe.
There it is more or less as found in the Atkinsonville Daily Glob.
But, "naturally not", I suppose (mutter, grumble...).
makes perfect sense! A+++
hi robt. A+++
overweening is a good word, i wonder if any of us have used that for a WFTD.
so no applause? someone behind us in the theater started to clap, so my family enthusiastically applauded. it was probably my friend Brigid and her husband, as we saw them as we left the theater, coming out behind us!
Young ladies’ school. ;-)
When they showed Pelosi in the movie the lady behind me said the words “see you next Tuesday” to her companion.
what is the significance of see you next tues?
No applause. Had i started it, most would have joined in, probably.
spell it out....
is this a common way of referring to that word? bc i am unfamiliar, but i get it now ; )
This Saturday BBC America is running an all-day Doctor Who marathon. Showing the entire previous season and then, at 9 PM, the new season begins.
So, my mission this week is to see if I can watch the remaining ten episodes I haven’t watched yet before Saturday night.
Have you seen Blink yet? It’s in our top 5. The angels have the phone box.
A friend from work finally watched Downton Abbey and is upset that it won’t start season 3 until January. She’s hooked.
