17 Million Less Viewers Watch Ryan in 2012 than Palin in 2008
Conservatives4Palin ^ | 8/30/2012 | Stacy Drake

I think this verifies with some pretty substantial numbers that there just isn’t the same excitement for Paul Ryan, as there was in 2008 for Governor Palin. Via Mediabistro (emphasis):

On night two of the Republican National Convention, Fox News Channel was once again the network more people went to to get their political fix. That said, every network was down substantially from the same night in 2008, when Sarah Palin made her RNC debut…

This isn’t good. It’s going to be an uphill battle, this candidate that Mainstream Media has chosen for the Republicans. I’m worried about November, I think that everyone should BOLT and all of the opposition gather around a candidate that was chosen in a drawing of straws.

How many voters will the DNC lose at THEIR convention this year compared to last?

That’s no surprise Palin was largely unknown so there was a curiosity factor there. I taped Palin’s speech and watch it often. Also keep in mind alot of people and I mean alot of people watch this stuff over the internet now.

I will never forgive the GOP for standing by and letting the MSM and demo demons eviscerate this woman publicly.

I still cannot get over it, they wouldn’t lift a finger.

How much of this is due to the networks all but ignoring the convention, giving it just an hour or less each night?

LOL.. So how did 17 million extra viewers to her speech translate in the polls?

This number means zilch.

Good question. Ask it next week and you will know. I am sure they will lose some too.

That is all the networks can afford to give. For example, CBS is showing Big Brother which makes huge ratings and makes tons of money for CBS. The Republican Convention and the Democratic Convention do not make a dime for the networks so this is really a very good business decision. Plus with the other channels, the Networks should probably stop showing them all together.

Numbers do mean something...until McCain f**ks up by suspending his campaign and the markets tank.

Post election bounce in 2008 was 12 pts and McCain had a 4 pt lead. When Goldman Sachs went belly up, so did the campaign.

PrePalin, crowds in the hundreds. After Palin was picked, crowds in the tens of thousands.

You can lead the crowds to you campaign but you at least have to act like you want their vote. McCain/Schmitt/Wallace didn’t realize that.

You shouldn’t be laughing, you should be pissed at McCain and his handlers.

I know what you mean. That’s probably one of the main reasons I’m not even watching the GOP convention this year. First one I’ve not tuned in to since 1976. And a lot of it has to my disgust over the way the GOP treated Palin. They just stood by and smirked while she and her family were being financially bankrupted by Dem operatives, when her church was torched, when the media tried to put blame on her for the mass-murder in Arizona, when Letterman was making rape jokes about her 13-year-old daughter, and on and on. And this was all concurrent when she was one of the incredibly few voices taking on Obama, from the stimulus to Obamacare (and enduring a media hellstorm for it).

It just made me lose all respect, confidence and trust in the Republican Party, seeing them so embarrassingly cowed by the media, and entirely content to throw Palin to the wolves. I’d voted exclusively GOP for decades, ever since I first reached voting age, but I really no longer feel any remote connection or kinship to it anymore. It’s a weird feeling, after all these years. But it is what it is.

It was a weird year, 2008. McCain actually had 42.5 million people watch his speech; I’ll be surprised if Romney can meet that number.

But I don’t think this is a big deal — people were curious in 2008, but in 2012 they are mad. We don’t need speeches, we just need the election. People don’t care what the republicans are saying, they are voting for them to stop the bleeding.

I’m not sure it is a bad thing that Ryan was seen as a more traditional pick and therefore didn’t raise the curiosity factor. I’m not sure curiosity would be a good thing this election cycle.

Only if you have an IQ under 80, and actually believe Hope and Change actually has a definite, unique meaning, and worse, and that it never can result in a change for the worse, and much worse.

Also, last year’s convention followed labor day, when people were back at work and back home.

This year’s is during the last week of summer vacation.

Our household watches such events on C-Span, where the "talking heads" don't interrupt and talk over.

Isn't that what everyone does who has an interest in such things?

DING DING DING!!!! Winner!

We cancelled our DirecTV yesterday. I came home after work and re-connected the antenna on the roof. Watched the convention coverage on PBS (which actually ran the convention starting at 6pm here in the Chicago tv market) and thoroughly enjoyed Condoleeza Rice's speech.

None of the "major networks" carried her speech in total, but PBS here did. I did however have to mute the volume whenever that dumbass b*tch Judy "what's happening to our country?!" Woodruff and her stupid panel came on during breaks.

I just watched it on Youtube (in 2008 watched Palin live). So I was one of the 17 million. I like Palin, but Ryan’s delivery and the substance behind it was far more compelling to me than Palin’s speech. I thought he absolutely knocked it out of the park. Very strong performance.

This does not take into consideration the death of MSM. People will not watch the DNC either—and that is where twitter feed, and a host of other exposures may come in. All money related, and ground pounding to the polls on Election Day. Conservative activists get to work- make it happen. About which see Ralph Reed and the number of evangelicals and Catholics who did not vote at all in 2008. There is a very large gap of people being missed in this “non viewing” number.

I might record the DNC only for historical purposes, like I saved the Fox channel live broadcast of 9/11 and the live on TV crash of the jet into the second tower, I had that saved for over a year on my DVR.

Who knows what kind of extreme debacle it may turn into.

I think the Lord held up his finger in warning by sending Isaac, for the DNC he may send a different message.

The “GOP” changes leaders and candidates on a regular basis. If someone is dissatisfied with what the “GOP” did in one election, having nothing to do with the “GOP” in the next election makes no sense since the dorks in the prior election are more likely not there anymore.

Did you just get off the turnip truck? I was not talking about the GOP’ers on the street like you and I but the powers that be(what is now called the GOP-e) that hung her out to dry and did not lift a finger to help her.

Some of those of course were Romney aides that worked on her VP staff. The MSM helped take her down like a wounded zebra and the Dumbo’s saw the threat she represended for 2012.
