A 10-year-old Maine girl has been charged with killing an infant entrusted to her mother's care to babysit for the night - the youngest person to be hit with a manslaughter rap in the state in at least 25 years.
Three-month-old Brooklyn Foss-Greenaway of Clinton died on July 8, and the Maine State Police declared the death a homicide on Wednesday.
A day later, authorities reportedly charged the 10-year-old daughter of her babysitter with manslaughter.
Nicole Greenaway, the infants mother, told The Bangor Daily News a toxicology report stated a medication was found in the infants system that was the very same medication taken by the 10-year-old girl.
'She [also] suffocated her by putting her hands over her face,' Greenaway said Thursday night. 'There are bruises all over her face.'
The mother of the 10-year-old has referred inquiries to her attorney, John Martin of Skowhegan, which was served with a court summons for the 10-year-old to appear in Skowhegan District Court on Oct. 22, according to The Bangor Daily News.

First of all who in their right mind asks a ten year old to baby sit? Second most responsible parents would keep their ten year old's meds out of reach and give it to them at proper time.
Sounds like an adult did this and the child is the patsy.
Post Christian America. Expect more of the same and worse.
“First of all who in their right mind asks a ten year old to baby sit? “
The ten yo was the kid of the babysitter, not the sitter.
From the article: charged with killing an infant entrusted to her mother's care
They didn't, the mom of the 10-year-old was the babysitter. Misleading headline.
I know but it still makes it sound like SHE (the child) was the babysitter.
I am still not sure who was to be watching the baby. I do know this if the ten year old is really guilty then why did mom who was to be watching the baby let this happen? Why is she not charged?
Plus the fact how did the ten year old get a hold of her medication to give to the baby? I was on meds at ten and my parents gave it to me, twice a day, out of the medicine cabinet never me getting it myself!!!
God that's funny. Is that from Keeping Up Appearances? It sounds like an exchange that Onslow and Our Rose might have!
Did they say what the meds were for?
VERY astute catch. I didn’t get that either, until you pointed it out.
Our Rose wouldn't clean the kitchen at all. That was Daisy's job. I love Keeping Up Appearances.
My quote however, is from Rodney Dangerfield in Easy Money. He's putting together a model Messerchmitt in the kitchen while his daughter is practicing scales on the violin. It's driving him nuts and he basically destroys the model. Just then his pal Nicky (played by Joe Pesci) arrives and he takes off leaving the mess for his wife to clean.
Another favorite quote was Pesci, talking to the daughter who was practicing: "What is that? Mozart"? The daughter replies, "Scales." Nicky then says "Never heard of him."
Good question...but I have ten bucks that says it was some kind of psych med.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who loves that show.
My kids and I make jokes by pronouncing ordinary words in ‘fancy french pronunciations’ (ie: Bucket as Bouquet like in the show). Oh, and that my daughter’s name is Rose is always a reason to tease her for being the trashy trollop sister, LOL.
I'm a huge fan of Britcoms and have been for years, starting with At Last The 1948 Show and going all the way up to Absolutely Fabulous and lots of things in between. With all the taxes I've paid that went to PBS at least I got *something* for it.
Yes, the headline certainly does. After reading the full article, and not just the excerpt, it's clear that the mother of the 10-year-old was the actual babysitter. Now, I'm wondering if, since it was supposed to be an overnight babysitting, maybe the 10-year-old might have been trying to make the infant go to sleep. I'm also wondering what kind of meds it was, as the article didn't actual state what they were.
I'm honestly thinking the mom of the 10-year-old was tired of a crying baby, wanted some sleep, gave the baby meds, or gave the 10-year-old the meds to give the baby (cold meds). This would explain the meds being something the 10-year-old would use (but they could have been something else - we don't know what, yet). Then I think mom tried to sleep herself. The 10-year-old, being concerned mommy wasn't going to be able to sleep with a screaming baby, then went in and tried to quiet the baby, and out of ingorance, not evil intent, killed the baby.
