Former vice president Al Gore is calling for an end to the Electoral College the system that cost him the presidency in 2000.
Gore said that many voters who live outside the dozen or so battleground states are cheated by the system that allocates delegates from the state level on a winner-take-all basis. He called for presidential elections to be determined by the popular vote.

Wow, what a shocker..Al Gore trying to make the ‘Relevant’ list in 2012..
That would be great! Then when vote boxes are stuffed in Chicago we all suffer!
Note to ALGORE: the way to do this is to AMMEND the US Constitution...a long tough process...so good luck bucko!
Shut up ya fat bastard!
This will never, ever, ever, ever happen. You will never get enough states to change the constitution.
Leftist freaks trying to cover their bases in advance of what they think could be a narrow electoral college loss for their messiah.
Yeah - Al Gore, what a chakra!
That’d be awesome. Then candidates would never waste a minute more than 100 miles from the east and west coast. And the already tilted game would sway even more to the interests of NYC/LA/San Fran, etc.
Al Gore thinks just because he won the popular vote in 2000, he thinks that Obama is going to win the popular vote in 2012....The only chance Obama has is with the electoral. He won’t win the popular vote for sure.
As close as the 2000 election was, without the electoral college we would have spent months counting every ballot in every precinct.
Did he dry up his glow-bull warming scam? So now he cant shut his big pie-hole and annoy us.
A LOSER IS A LOSER IS A LOSER. Always will and forever be Gore.
I see Gore is well into decade number two of being a sore loser.
How about calling for an end to giving algore a microphone?
I wonder what other parts of the Constitution algore doesn’t like (probably most of it!!).
2000 Presidential Election By County
“the system that cost him the presidency in 2000”
What an ignorant statement. Had the election been based on popoluar vote the entire 2000 campaign would have been run differently on both sides and people outside of the battleground states would have been more motivated to vote. Bush would have spent millions in Texas alone getting out the vote.
Just a side note. Did you see Mike Eruzione last night at the convention? I had to do a double take. He looked just like Gore.
Haha, imagine that.
That election in 2000 really messed him up, mentally. He’s acted like a cuckoo bird ever since.
He needs a mental evaluation.
“Al Gore is calling for an end to the Electoral College”
Again? What a sore loser he is.
Let it go, Al. It was 12 years ago.
Gore is admitting how stupid he and his team really were. Both sides new the rules, or at least should have. The popular vote didn’t mean squat. It’s like the losing team in a Super Bowl saying they should be declared the winner because they gained more yards or had the greater time of possession. Liberals love rules, as long as they get to change them after the fact.
I think the electoral vote should be by congressional district and state. One vote per congressional district carried, plus two votes for each state carried, a state being carried by the winner of the majority of its congressional districts or the winner of its popular vote in the event of a tie in districts. That would better implement the Founders' intent and would also more effectively firewall vote fraud.
2008 by congressional district
Then the megalopoli of the East and West Coasts will rule the country and lord it over their peons slaving in ‘flyover country.’ WORK HARDER SERFS! The masses need more bread and circuses!
At least until the East-West civil war.
I think we should stay with the Electoral College, myself.
How about an end to Al Gore speaking ?
Just can’t let it go, can you Al ?
It's all theater. The GOP proved that when Boehner's gavel came down on a dodgey voice vote giving insiders control over keeping the grass roots out.
The Dems are nothing more than a Socialist cheer squad. No need to even bother tuning in unless the place gets hit by an asteroid...
That is exactly why we much keep the Electoral College. Those rules remove the incentive to pack the ballot boxes in most areas.
The winner-take-all aspect is not a part of the US Constitution. Read up, Al.
He's blaming the electoral college now? Not the ballots?
"...in the opinion of most independent observers, this is the single most confusing, bewildering, incipherable document ever produced. To begin with, how do you know which side to vote on? [ holds it up on one side ] Is this right-side up? [ flips it over ] Or is this right-side up? The ballot doesn't say. And what's with all these confusing names? Bush. Gore. Buchanan. Nader. And confusing party affiliations. Democrat. Republican. Reform. Here's one called "Green". And here's more names. George. Patrick. Albert. John. John. There's two different Johns. I mean, who on earth could figure this out.
But to really understand how confusing this ballot is, you have to take a closer look. Here it is. [ close-up is shown ] Now, for the love of God, what are all these dots? And these arrows? If you look closely, you will see that tips of the arrow points to a dot...but the shaft of the arrow points back to a name. So how do you vote? Do you circle a candidate's name? Do you underline it? Or do you write it on the arrow? Or underneath? Or maybe it's the dots. Do you write the candidate's name on the dots? They seem sort of small. Maybe just his initials. Or do you color in the dots? If so, in what color? Maybe you scratch the dots with the edge of a penny. Or lick the dots. Again, this ballot does not spell it out. I went to Harvard - I couldn't make heads or tails of this. [ puts ballot away ]
Just imagine what it was like for the most vulnerable residents of Palm Beach. [ holds up photo ] This is Esther Rosenthal. Esther Rosenthal is age 92, a Democrat all her life. Esther left her nursing home Tuesday morning intending to vote for me! Totally bewildered by this ballot, she ended up voting for the Libertarian candidate, and switching her long-distance service to Sprint. [ holds up next photo ] Okay.. Sidney and Reesa Mandel, age 87 and 85, ate their ballot! [ holds up next photo ] While Rachel Goldensten, age 96, mailed hers to Barbra Streisand..."
-- A Message From The Vice-President Of The United States
As heard on Saturday Night Live, November 11, 2000
Algore just HATES someone else getting praise and attention. So, what to do....oh yeah..... say something for headlines.
You lost Al...stop paying your therapist and whining abou tit and get the heck over it wimp!
This is what happens when Al's chakra is too tight.
The Electoral College is the genius of the founding fathers...without it, the election would be decided by the 15 biggest metropolitan areas in America...and the rest of us would be servants to those areas.
Back in 2000 Al Gore was all for the electoral college per a CNN interview when he thought it might help him. Wish I had the resources to track down that interview.
To prevent globull warming, we call for an end to Al Gore.
dforest calls for an end to Al Gore.
Al Gore calls for an end........horny again Al?
I keep telling my lib friends that if the good people of TN had voted for him, the whole hanging chad thing would have been a moot point.
If you can’t carry the state where you were born and a Senator and your daddy was a Senator....then you don’t deserve to be the Prez.
Still crazy after all these years.
AlBore Theme Song.
There are already a few states already allocating electoral college delegates to votes from individual Congressional districts, and if memory serves those are Nebraska and New Hampshire or Maine.
That change could be made at the state level without a Constitutional amendment, and would put in play many rural counties in states like New York, Illinois and California.
Better men dedicated their "lives, their fortunes & their sacred honor," to achieving the State sovereignty that Britain recognized by the Treaty Of Paris--1783.
If only Al had borrowed John Kerry’s lucky hat he may have won.
That dumbas$ couldn’t even win his home state.
You failed to steal the election 12 years ago, Algore, give it up.
