‘Pray for Obama’ sign under fire from Secret Service

The Secret Service is looking into a sign posted in Victoria, Texas.

The sign says “Pray for Obama”, but it’s the scripture quoted below those words that is raising eyebrows: Psalms 109:8.

Psalms 109:8 reads, “Let his days be few, and let another take his office.”

The Secret Service is looking into a sign...

What the hell business is it of theirs? There isn't a communicated threat.

Methinks 0bama and his Chicago regime are very thin skinned.

Is that racist? Sorry, but the race card has expired.

What better way to Threaten someone who everyone thinks is a muslim by quoting the Bible at least he would look at it as a threat and a solid one at that given the scripture ....

That’s what I’d like to know. Are they trying to manufacture a threat where no real threat exists? We all know how they like to operate in crisis mode, gives them freedom to do things they couldn’t normally do. Heck, we all want his days to be numbered. How many days to January 20th?

If you read the whole Psalm, it is the psalm-writer asking God to bring judgment on the wicked. The entire Psalm 109:

“Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise; For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue. They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.

In return for my love they act as my accusers: but I give myself unto prayer. And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand. When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin. Let his days be few; and let another take his office. Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places. Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.

Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children. Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out. Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the Lord; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. Let them be before the Lord continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth. Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.

As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.
As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones. Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually. Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the Lord, and of them that speak evil against my soul.

But do thou for me, O God the Lord, for thy name’s sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me. For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust. My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness. I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads.

Help me, O Lord my God: O save me according to thy mercy:
hat they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, Lord, hast done it. Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice.
Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.
I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude. For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.”

The psalm writer does express his desire that God judge and take the life of this wicked man who was oppressing not only him, but all the weak and defenseless around him. So, I guess you could make an argument that quoting the psalm against Obama could be a “death threat”. But, it’s not a death threat on the part of the psalm writer - he’s asking GOD to do the killing, not himself.

It’s kind of like that line in “Fiddler On the Roof” when the Rabbi is asked if there was a proper blessing for the Czar. His reply was, “Yes, May the Lord bless and keep the Czar - FAR FROM US!”

Liberals have no sense of humor.

I agree with you to a point. I do believe there are atheists who don’t want there to be a God because of the life they want to live - God existing would put a definite crimp into their fun and a possible fear of judgement.

However, I also believe that there are some people who literally have NO fear of God. See Psalm 36:1; Psalm 53:5, and Romans 3:17-19.

As hard as it is to understand, there are people who actually have no fear of God, they have no respect for Him, they have no respect for human life or right or wrong - they just do what they want - it’s all about THEM.

And, I’m afraid there are going to be ever growing numbers of people like that who are completely amoral, or, who have convinced themselves that it actually people who believe in God, and moral truth, who are the dangerous ones. And, as such it will be without remorse that these religious “fanatics” who do believe in God and His moral standards should and will be gathered up and destroyed for the “good” of humanity.

Isn’t that the message of the “new” atheists? They haven’t spoken openly of killing off Christians yet, but when they say that people who believe in God and moral absolutes are the cause of all the evil and harm in this world - why not kill them? Wouldn’t that be more humaine than allowing them to continue to inflict their religious bigotry and intolerance on the rest of the world?

It's not hard to comprehend how a person can be fooled into thinking their is no Greater being ..no God .. with the taking of separation of church and state taken and twisted out of the true context of "make no law" when the Government starts kicking God out of daily life trouble is sure to come

I believe they have spoken openly about it in this i include the muslim religion among atheists because it's not a religion but a cult disguised as a religion and ised to fool a populace that weren't war weary but were scared out of their wits that the one True God had Abandoned them {ie}911 through years of conditioning in public schools and corrupt politicians our people were and are made to believe they were on their own so they grasped at someone who spoke without regard to God and Law but to feelings and sentiment ...

re: “through years of conditioning in public schools and corrupt politicians our people were and are made to believe they were on their own so they grasped at someone who spoke without regard to God and Law but to feelings and sentiment ...”

I agree that there have been years of indoctrination, but not so much in the public schools. Of course there are some nutjobs in public schools, but I rarely heard that stuff in public school, however I heard plenty of it in “higher education” i.e. college.

Professors were constantly mocking and attacking traditional Judeo-Christian values as well as expressing extreme cynisim toward American greatness and exceptionalism. It is in “academia”, higher education where the real marxists are.

The worst influences upon public schools have come since Jimmy Carter formed the Dept of Education back in the 1970’s. Once the states began accepting “educational” funds from the feds, they had to start dancing to whatever tune the federal government played. The Dept. of Education must be abolished. It is destroying the autonomy of the states to set their own public schools agenda. The people of each state should do that - not bureaucrats in Washington.

Oh especially in public schools not so much mocking but disinformation through silence and stifling slowly taking the Pledge of allegiance then systematically taking anything to do with a Christian nation from learning lessons bibles disappearing from classrooms children being chided by teachers for praying to themselves before meals but giving other religions special privileges to pray all in the guise of political correctness I'm sure you've read the so called isolated stories as most have but these things happen in public schools all the time and with the media and the public fear of "rocking the boat" they never see the light of day

This will never happen with the quality of educated parents and leaders we have today so many are to busy trying to make their own mark on the world that they have no time or proclivity to look far enough into the future to care some things that used to right themselves through lite policy are now to weighed down to one side or the other to stand corrected ! it's a shame really when parents a afraid of their children besting them in life and the fear is created by political correct bureaucrats and the 1001 stooges who follow waiting for crumbs

Again, I respectfully disagree as far as public schools go. You must remember that there are almost 300,000 public schools and literally nearly 1 million school teachers. With that large a group, you are bound to have some nutballs and crazies.

And, its those nutballs and crazies who make the news (i.e. the teacher who won’t let a kid draw a picture of the Nativity at Christmastime). I don’t know about the state you live in, but the Pledge of Allegiance is required to be said everyday - along with a 30 second period of silence for prayer or meditation.

All the traditional holidays are celebrated and teachers are allowed to teach their students where all these holidays come from and what their original meanings are - like Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving.

It’s true that a teacher may not preach or try to evangelize, but you can give all the information about who the Pilgrims were, where they came from, what motivated them, etc.

The problem is that in some states or local school districts, lawyers and lawsuits have so intimidated some districts and administrators that they are afraid to mention “Christmas” or some other such nonsense. I’m not denying that there aren’t anti-Christian principals out there, but they are way in the minority. Most elementary school teachers attend churches in their communities - but remember only the whacked out ones make the news.

Again, the federal government must be removed from public education. More and more conservatives must become professors, more and more conservatives must be elected to school boards and state legislatures. It is these people who greatly influence curriculum - except that there is pressure by the federal government to get all the states to agree to “national standards”. There is also a move to get public school teachers to get “national certification”. If this becomes the norm, the states will be effectively removed from any influence on what the local public schools teach.

The federal government has NO BUSINESS certifying who can or who cannot teach. That is supposed to be up to each state and local school district. This is the greater danger.

Well we must agree to disagree then I have seen the attempted intoctrinations with my own eyes my daughter experienced it in her schools both grade and college theres a whole lot more power grabbing nutbags out there than you would think possible ...

We could go on all day arguing about the challenges of teaching and public school I won't there's to many branch's to that tree we know what we've seen and how it was and is still being administered and the parents who fight the stupidity every day but i digress ....

Agreed and it cant happen fast enough for my taste i just hope my grandchildren if i ever have any get to experience true freedoms without indoctrination one way or the other ...

From the Victoria newspaper

http://www.victoriaadvocate.com/news/2012/aug/29/jp_prayforobama_083012_186635/

Hate Speech?

Milton H. Neitsch Jr. Built that

A sign erected on North Navarro Street asking drivers-by to “Pray for Obama” is stirring controversy in the Crossroads.

The sign, at the corner of North Navarro and Stanly Streets next to Car West Car Wash and Uncle Mutt’s Bar-B-Q, references a seemingly kind suggestion to pray for the nation’s president.

But below a pair of hands folded in prayer, Psalms 109:8 is stripped across the bottom.

“When I first saw the sign, I thought, ‘Oh good, we should pray for our leaders’ ... but when I got out my Bible and looked up the verse, I realized the verse was calling for the death of a leader who the writer (King David, of Israel) believes is evil,” said the Rev. Amy Danchik, of Christ the Victor Lutheran Church, located on the same street.

Psalms 109:8, which reads, “May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership,” provoked Danchik to petition area clergy for the removal of the sign, citing its inflammatory implication that Obama should die.

On its own, Danchik said Psalm 109:8 is “bad enough,” but the verses immediately following secure the tone of the “Pray for Obama” sign.

Neitsch, who said the two businesses located on his properties are not responsible for or affiliated with the sign, said he did not intend for the billboard to be controversial.

“I did not mean to imply what’s in those other verses, only Psalm 109:8,” Neitsch said. “The country is losing its Christianity and that sign was put up in good faith to support the prayer for Obama, even though I don’t support his policies.”

Neitsch said the sign was purchased online and paid for by several supporters of its message. He said he received only one complaint since the sign went up a week ago, and everyone else has praised the billboard.

“I believe in God and I believe there’s still time for this country, but I believe we can’t put up with what we’ve had the last four years,” he said. “I only support what’s written in Psalm 109:8, which says ‘Let his days be few.’ Obama happens to have 69 days left and when he’s gone someone else will take his place.”

But Danchik said the act of removing one verse from the entire passage, known as “prooftexting,” is an insufficient method of reading scripture and may promote an incorrect message of Christianity.

“The world already sees a hateful form of Christianity, and this is one of the reasons - this billboard,” she said.

Jared Mayfield, the city of Victoria’s director of development services, said no regulation or ordinance would require Neitsch to remove the sign from his property.

“If it’s on his property and it’s legal, he can change the message on the billboard,” Mayfield said. “The city doesn’t have any regulations or sign ordinance that would address the content of the sign.”

Victoria resident David Allen, who was not immediately aware of the message of the sign, said he does not support Neitsch’s billboard.

“I don’t think it should be up there. For him to say that a person should die, that’s not right. Obama shouldn’t be president, but he doesn’t need to die,” Allen said.

Yet another Victoria resident, Gabby Herrera, said while she doesn’t support the message of the sign, she supports Neitsch’s right to post it on his property.

“Yes, it’s in a public place, but it’s on his property,” she said. “I’m not saying I’m for or against Obama,” but Neitsch has the right to express his opinion.

Danchik has launched a community-wide effort to remove the sign and is circulating a petition among clergy and Victoria residents requesting it be taken down.

“This is not about bashing the man who put it up. I have no hatred for him, and I’m speaking the truth in love,” Danchik said. “But I’m holding him accountable to scripture. I’d like to see it taken down for the sake of the gospel.”
