'Green Lantern #0' introduces new Muslim Arab-American super hero - a major milestone in comics
New York Daily News ^ | September 4, 2012

Simon Baz is a Lebanese American hero from Dearborn, Michigan Meet the new Green Lantern, a Muslim-American who wears an Arabic tattoo on the same arm as his power ring.

DC Comics is introducing its newest superhero in “Green Lantern #0” Wednesday — and Simon Baz is likely to be turning comic book fans’ heads faster than a speeding bullet.

“In general, when you think about Arabs and Muslims in main roles in pop culture, they’re always the villains,” said Linda Sarsour, executive director of the Arab American Association of New York. “We're always the hijackers. We're always the bad people that the good American soldiers or CIA is trying to fight.

“To finally have the opportunity where the Arab-American can be the super hero, to be the one who saves people, is a lot more powerful an image.”

Longtime readers don’t have to panic, however: Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern usually headlining the series, wasn’t bumped off. He’s just stuck in a sort of limbo with his old frenemy, Sinestro, in an ongoing plotline.

Screw this. Green Lantern is gay, now he’s a muslim?

Guess next he’ll be having gender reassignment surgery and marrying a push broom.

Well this version looks like a muslim terrorist in a male burka, and he also managed to still make him gay, too.

I gave it up in the 90s when it was clear that the whole mutant line of comics was really a front for homosexuality. They were portraying mutants and all that suffering from the same “persecution” as gays, etc.

Simon Baz is the Lebanese Muslim Green Lantern of Earth-1.

Alan Scott is the gay Green Lantern of Earth-2.

The Muslim GL of Earth-1 is going to fight Superman.

The gay GL of Earth-2 is going to take Superman's place.

It's quite confusing.

He's being silly. Muslims are NEVER the villains in popular culture. It's only on the evening news that Muslims are the villains, and there the events are described as "isolated incidents".

We are told that Osama Bin Laden did not follow REAL Islam, then when he is killed, our president sees to it that he has an official Islamic funeral at our expense so as not to irritate the Islamic communities around the world.

Obama lied, people died.

Political correctness has made huge inroads into the world of comics.

Yep.

Simon Baz — perhaps he’s a CHRISTIAN arab-American?

So why does someone welding the most powerful weapon in the universe need a gun?

Darn clumsy one, too. Look how high the bore axis is over the grip. Can you say "muzzle flip"?

Nothing new under the sun at DC. Green Lantern has always been the character to put in a trial replacement (after all, in the DC universe, there are many Green Lanterns).

DC couldn't resist generating too much of a good thing. Take Superman. At first, he was "The Last Son of Krypton". Then comes the boyhood version. Oh, and Brainiac took 10,000,000 or so Kandorians and shrunk them for safe keeping, and Argo City flew off in a chunk, and cousin Supergirl escaped to Earth, but her parents are "stuck in a strange Limbo", (The Survival Zone, like The Phantom Zone, but not as mean). And Superman's dog, Krypto, was sent in a experimental rocket. And super-variations and quasi relatives likke Mon-El of the 30th century, Comet the Super Horse, Streaky, the Super Cat, and Beppo, the Super Monkey. There was once even an army of Superman robots.

In Iraq, tattoos are looked at as the kind of thing outright criminals had. It helped with the whole mystique thing of the American Soldier that so many of my guys were all tattooed up.

So one Green Lantern is a gay and another is a Muslim.

I guess Green Lantern is the designated butt monkey for comic heroes. Soon there will be a tranny Green Lantern and a Geico caveman Green Lantern.

I give it 3 months until it fails.

Muslims don’t read comic books.
