Pretty Sure We Are Now Witness To Political Hair Rock Meets Grunge Moment
Vanity | 9/5/2012

Posted on 09/05/2012 10:53:46 AM PDT by My Favorite Headache

I think what has happened today with the Obama campaign moving their highly and arrogantly touted downsized Thursday acceptance speech from a football stadium ready for 65,000 people down to an arena able to fit less than 20,000 due to stage size and other platforms on the floor, is easily the DNC's hair rock moment.

This is a moment where bands like Def Leppard, Warrant, RATT, Cinderella, Whitesnake,Extreme, Slaughter, Great White,White Lion, Dokken, and others were put on notice that a huge shift had taken place and that shift was called "grunge rock". It's as if Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, and Pearl Jam just walked into Charlotte, N.C. and said..."You might have had the ability to play this place 4 years ago but you aren't headliners any longer...we are...ya gotta go."

We are witnessing a shift today.

Those old bands like Def Leppard which in context back in 1991-92 could say hey 4 years ago we were selling out stadiums on our own with no opening act needed! Now the Democrats like Def Leppard today have to bring out a few old acts to bring extra people to fill the seats to just get a variety of people to hear them.

Jimmy Carter? Impeached Former President Bill Clinton?

It's like Def Leppard a band who sold 80 million records worldwide bringing Gary Glitter (pedophile) on the bill with them and Great White (See: Station House Nightclub Fire). Both of them are pretty toxic historically and yet stand for various reasons as still accepted by their peers in music and politics.

Obama in 2008 was what Def Leppard was in 1987-88 with Hysteria. Huge. Bigger than huge.

Now Obama has been told by his agent, his manager, and the tour promoter that they can't even give the seats away and it's time to break out the excuses. The more "intimate" evening experience. Obama is going acoustic basically which is what a lot of hair rock bands did towards the end of their run.

Obama is done...and he knows it. His people know it.

One of the greatest quotes in rock history came from the late Jani Lane of Warrant when asked when was it he knew his career was in trouble and he said "I walked into my label's office and where our "Cherry Pie" album cover hung on the wall in the entrance just 12 months before was replaced by an Alice In Chains cover for their new record...I knew everything had changed and we were done."

Obama is no longer a stadium draw. He is down to an arena act and next it will be playing host to crowds at theaters and county parks and fairgrounds.

When you have to trot out one of the worst rated Presidents in all of history in Carter and Bill Clinton...an impeached and disbarred former President...you are out of ideas..and you are swimming with scum who sold this country out numerous times during their own terms.

Barry sees the writing on the wall. He knows North Carolina ain't in his column this time around and he knows he probably has lost Virginia as well.

Get ready folks...Romney is about to dump a whole lot of money into TV ads and other campaign blitzes starting next week. Money is one thing Obama had plenty of in 2008, the money isn't even close this time. Their supporters are much poorer than they were in 2008 and they have managed to piss off investors to the point of never trusting a word he says again.

Now let's see if the mainstream media turns on Obama like MTV did on hair rock in the early 90s.

On, just a moment there. Jerry Cantrell and Alice In Chains are genious. Theast album was brilliant and I can’t wait for the upcoming release. What Jerry did with the band and his solo work is rock n roll legend.

The jump the shark moment ran through my head a bunch of times but that has been so played out that this seemed much more fitting although the same concept applies here. There is something about the untouchable hair rocker ego that got put into check (as well as Michael Jackson’s) back in 91-92..that Obama is not and has not learned from history very well at all. America gets burned out on B.S., glitz, and glam after awhile and at the end of the day they want substance.

The Hair Band analogy is spot on. Being an 80s metalhead I remember it all too well.

And it happened so damn fast. That’s the kicker. All the media of the time...Circus, Hit Parader, even RS were all gung ho on hair metal (RS less than the rest) and the Headbangers Ball Ruled MTV. Fashion trends, commercials, comedy, movies...lots of Hair, good time party stuff everywhere. And then Nirvana hit and poof...lumberjack clothes, depression everywhere and the rest.

Now granted, the music had ran it’s course and the whole thing became a parody of itself...

...Just like Hope and change.

History repeats.

Now Obama has been told by his agent, his manager, and the tour promoter

Great analogy! However, while I was reading, the above sentence confused me for a moment. I was sure it said "teleprompter" instead of "tour promoter".

I'll give you Cantrell and Chains except for Man In A Box.

The band left this fraud a while ago and now we are left with Milli Vanilla or an awful Karate rendition of “Just one more time”.

I totally understand the analogy, but I actually think the Grunge music sucked and was depressing, while the Hair music was fun to listen to. The hair band fans partied too hard and did too much sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll, the grunge band fans on the other hand were too depressed and suicidal.

I mean, I just assumed this was great WSJ work, or even a snippet of some Mark Steyn.

awful Karaoke rendition of “Just one more time”.

I was thinking more along the lines of "Love Shack". With BO on lead vocals and MO backing him up.
