SAN DIEGO -- A 40-year-old man who allegedly failed to restrain his friend's six pit bulls, which severely mauled two joggers in Valley Center, is facing four misdemeanor charges, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday.
Jose Ledesma was arraigned Tuesday on two counts each of failing to protect the public from dogs and failing to restrain a dog

People who own actually pit bulls are moronic.
I guess the same could be said about people who don’t proofread their posts.
Nobody was harmed by a typo.
And I would be wrong how?
I stand by my statement: People who own actually pit bulls are moronic.
A better debate would be.... what kind of moron tries to walk SIX PIT BULLS at the same time ?
Let me rephrase: if you own an actual pit bull you are an idiot.
Unless it was the address on a Search Warrant.
What if you have a tiger?
Moron is the key word, only a moron would.
So... that's a pretty absolute thing with you, huh?
Oh, ye a tiger could take down a pit bull or a Rhodesian Ridge Back as well.
Oh, you mean walking?
Don’t think tigers are very leach friendly, Rhodesian Ridge Backs are.
True.
Would you expand.
Not sure where you are going here.
Now I see.
MORON is not the key word. The key word is ACTUAL. Isn’t it?
Ok I wrote:
People who own actually pit bulls are moronic.
I should have written:
People who actually own pit bulls are moronic.
I was following you. You said MORONS was the key, so we were dealing with people who own animals. Some people own tigers. Are they morons ?
I find that argument banal, as the answer is obvious. AND, I don't think that is your intended argument anyway. I think you are referring to the term ACTUAL PIT BULL.
Did I misread your post?
I thought you said, “People who own ACTUAL pit bulls are moronic.”
Yes, you are correct.
“People who own actual pit bulls”.
Unfortunately many dogs have been thrown into that category incorrectly.
Dangit. I went back to your original post(s), and you did say actually.
Now I’m confused. Are you arguing that there is a question of WHO owns WHO ?
I found it.

"Let me rephrase: if you own an actual pit bull you are an idiot."
Please help me. Is it "actual pit bull" or "actually own".
Ok.
Let’s start over.
People who own actual pit bulls are moronic.
Actual pit bulls are a particular high-bred dog, they were bred for one purpose, to fight in a pit to the death.
Many dogs for whatever reason have been thrown into that category, and unfairly so.
Is it the fault of the pit bull no, however the result is a dog that can never be trusted.
So I will say again, anyone who owns an actual pit bull is moronic.
actual pit bull
Now we're getting somewhere.
You are saying the LABEL pit bull is used erroneously and that actual 'pit bulls' are not pets. The dogs that many people call 'pit bulls' and may have as pets, are not TRAINED PIT BULLS.
Am I getting this right ?
Yes.
Yeah, I get it. AND sorry about the post jumping. It happens all the time.
Would you concede that not all OWNERS of ACTUAL PIT BULLS are morons, just the ones who think they can own it as a ‘pet’ ?
Would you allow that there are some ‘domesticated’ versions of the pit bull breed who can be kept as a ‘pet’? Are there not people who have a pit bull, and have never had a problem with it ?
I know people who like the look and have spent several generations breeding out the “fight” from the dogs and yes they make fine pets, with caution.
There are unfortunately people who do not understand what pit bulls where bred for and, think oh if I am nice they will be nice.
What really annoys me is the number of dogs who have been tagged as pit bulls who are not.
When you purchase or rescue a pit bull caution is the key word.
Oh, I completely agree.
What I don’t agree with is that ALL people who own (various degrees of) pit bulls are morons.
You have said so yourself. It is not the dog, it is the person. Right person, no problem. Uninformed, unprepared, immature, wanna-be (anything ‘cool’ inserted here) owners are morons. And someone’s gonna die because of the moron.
One last question, my FRiend, then I’m hitting the sack.
Granted the owner was a moron for letting someone else take six pit bulls for a walk (like that’s the truth..), most morons I know wouldn’t take more than one pit bull out for a walk.
On second thought, I don’t know any morons that would take a pit bull out for a walk. Not ‘in town’, anyway.
I’d say this guy’s career as a DOG-WALKER might be over.
SVCW and I are having an excellent exchange of info. My assumption is that you have only seen the first few posts, so I feel that with time, you will see how things turned out.
Thanks to SVCW for the courteous, intelligent, and quick responses. I enjoyed our conversation. I have great respect for posters who can answer with a simple YES or NO. It is a rare quality.
I don't know if we learned anything (new, anyway), but I hope others did.
(told you my brain was blinking out)
Or, I might say, no MORE an idiot than I. (and in this case, less)
The breed is flawed and they are dangerous. We have seen this time and time again.
The breed is not flawed. They tend to do exactly what they were bred to do.
Just about anyone will admit that border collies are compulsive herders, and that retrievers are compulsive about chasing things and bringing them back.
But for some reason there are people who refuse to admit that some breeds of dogs were intentionally bred to be violently aggressive, and that this breeding was successful at instilling a very strong tendency towards the desired behavior.
Now it is obviously possible to keep the desired physical form and breed out the aggression, just as it would be possible to breed a line of border collies that didn’t try to herd things.
Bummer of a typo, man. The thread reminds me of some of the incoherent conversations I’ve had on the phone, when I thought I was talking to person A, but really was talking to person B. LOL
BTW, I initially thought you had meant to say “actually own” pit bulls. Which isn’t a particularly coherent thought. As opposed to borrowing them, which of course is what happened here.
A smallish lady walks 4 Rotties past my home twice a day. I have fun envisioning what would happen if they suddenly decided they were going somewhere she hadn’t planned on going.
I have been told, repeatedly, that attacks like this are rare.
Hey...We own a pittie. Our grown daughter has a pittie. Our grown son and his wife have a pittie.
They are good dogs and make excellent pets. Ours sleeps with one of our kids every night.
We also have a 3 lb Chihuahua. He’s the one to worry about.
I’m still eagerly waiting to read a news story about a pack of feral chihuahuas mauling an individual to death.
Is your real name Chet?
Nope! I’m Jack.
You have never ever made a typo on any of your posts here on FR? Never? Not even the slightest typo or spelling error?
Please read the thread, from post #2
We used to have a nice quiet life here till the county paved our road.
Now the joggers and bicyclists have taken over and we have been told to lock up our two dogs (not Pit Bulls) as the joggers and bicyclists cause the chase and attack instinct to come out in the dogs.
As a result, the coons and foxes are into our chickens all the time. Our free roaming dogs used to keep them away.
Come to New Hampshire...we have parents who let their 8 year-old daughter walk their pit right thru a residential neighborhood.
That's going to end well.
Actually, I did read the thread. Just thought it was funny.
I don’t understand why anyone would adopt one of those animals. Sure they can be great companions but so can a lab or a beagle and those dogs don’t have the destructive power and tenacity to kill. So why get a dog with destructive potential when you can get one that’ll provide you with a great companion without risking serious injury or death if it has a bad day? Why risk it?
Congratulations. While most of them are fine enough dogs you’ve decided that it makes sense to buy something with the potential to do serious damage if it has a bad day when there are many other alternatives that do not have the ability to be so destructive. It makes absolutely no sense to introduce risk that you do not have to introduce given how many other breads there are out there that do not have the destructive potential that a pit has. What is the point? Unless you have to impress the local gangster population or have real serious security issues there is no point. You are just taking a needless risk just like all of the other fine people whose pits have “never hurt a fly” before they injure or kill someone. Again that is a small minority of dogs but if you choose to take the risk you shouldn’t be shocked by the outcome.
See now I can agree with that statement. Obviously he isn’t Cesar Millan.
