So what’s the deal with the retro headsets? Is somebody screwing with their radio feed and forcing them to communicate by wire?

I wondered the same thing when I first saw them on night 2 of the RNC. If you saw night 1 (pre-headsets), they were having difficulty with the noise/music coming from downstairs. The headsets help with that, I believe.

Lol, indeed. This thing is a dog. I usually tune into a decent chunk of the DNC convention every time, no matter how painful. This one is second rate. This party has sunk to a pathetic level. Nothing of substance to be found. No discussion of how to tackle the top issues.

I don’t think any candidate has gotten a negative bounce from a convention. There is a very good chance this will be the 1st.

“So what’s the deal with the retro headsets?”

Maybe they’re those noise canceling headsets.

I know that’s what I would wear.

I think that's so the talking heads can hear each other.

Their set oversees the convention hall. Tuesday night when we watched, they did not wear the headsets. The sound/noise/cheering from the convention hall below/behind them was so loud that we couldn't hear them and turned off the TV. They were screaming at each other, presumably, because they couldn't hear each other either.

Wednesday they wore the headsets. I'm sure they hear each other through the headsets, and it blocks out the noise below.

Don’t people proof-read their stuff before they pull the trigger? I do, and even THEN I screw something up occasionally!

The headsets are so the producer/remote video truck crew can clue them in for camera shots on them, the speaker or the crowd, to impart info to them and for notice of breaks and for a countdown on returning from breaks.
(ever catch the talking heads doing something crazy when the commercials end and then they get that sheepish "I got caught" look? LOL)

If this was aired somebody went to break/commercials very slowly.

As a former drummer I ‘’can agree, Monitors(’’speakers’’) close by help too. I think the head-set thing came in after the first night when they were all using hand-held mikes.

You’re absolutely correct; that’s why it’s important, when using in-ear monitors or cans, to really pay attention to the volume.

Of course, being yer typical rock guitar slinger, I tend to have ‘em WAY too loud. :)

Every single convention, every single speech is hailed as the turning point that will stick a fork in the Republicans forever and ever.

I’ve also heard many singers sing slightly flat, if the “cans” are up too loud.

On a demo session for a local songwriter, I was there for guitar and pedal steel, and the singer from my band to do the vocal. I told the engineer, to set the mike high, like Lemmy’s, and to keep the volume in Bobby’s cans low, so that he’d sing loudly.
