NY Times reporter: Bush White House didn't listen to 9/11 warnings
CBS THIS MORNING ^ | 9-11-2012

Posted on 09/11/2012 6:47:36 AM PDT by ExxonPatrolUs

"CBS This Morning" co-host Norah O'Donnell said, "Then when a lot of people hear this, aren't they going to say, 'This is another example of where, not just the Bush administration, but our intelligence community dropped the ball. They failed to heed the warnings that were in a number of these (documents) that went all the way up to the president of the United States.'"

Eichenwald replied, "Actually, the counterterrorist center of the CIA did a spectacular job, and that's what really comes down. You know, in the aftermath, the White House and others said, 'Well they didn't tell us enough.' No, they told them everything they needed to know to go on a full alert and the White House didn't do it."

Jammie Gorelick, from the Clinton administration, created an arbitrary barrier between the Intelligence and Law Enforcement arms of the FBI.

THAT is the single mechanism that caused us to miss the warning signs.

Too many folks believe it was a gap between the CIA and FBI.
It was NOT!

Never liked Norah O’Donnell ever since he blew Super Bowl XXX.

intelligence briefing of “al queda wants to hit america” warrants what kind of response... of course terrorists want to hit america... give us specifics and we’ll stop them... generalities are for covering your asses...

we need a government with the cajones to crush those that hurt us and what we believe in.

hurt us, and it is going to hurt you, a lot.

I thought Syria called Clinton back in the 1990s and told him they had OBL in their sights, would he like to do something about it. I seem to recall that Clinton didn’t answer in the affirmative.

And didn’t someone in the US military, post 9/11m also have OBL in their sights, but refused to give the order to kill him as ‘It just didn’t feel right’?

The charge of the WH knowing and not doing anything is ridiculous.
The people in the know pour over mountains of information and make decisions, unfortunately sometimes they are wrong.

Nevertheless, I’ll never forget Condoleeza Rice sitting up there at the commission saying “We never DREAMED someone would be low enough to hijack an airliner and fly it into a skyscraper.” I thought that sounded very, very weak.

“Sandy Pants Berger”

I would love to have Saggy Pants Berger water boarded to find out what the hell he stole.

Why do we continue to accept our government hiding these acts from us?

Every time we let them get away with it, they just have more nerve to do it again and again.

The American people no longer have control over fedzilla when both parties play this game and we have a willing media to give them cover.

As usual, unfortunately, Bush never wanted to reveal any of the misdeeds of his predecessor, so Burger got a slap on the wrist and the whole thing went away quietly.

It was the Sudan.

They even offered to arrest him and hand him to us on a silver platter. The Clinton DOJ couldn't figure out how to prosecute him so they said no. Also Clinton did place much priority on it. Not the type of foreign affair that held his interest.

The key thing to remember regarding Rats and GOP views concerning terrorism The Rats view it strictly as a law enforcement problem. Has to be prosecutable so intelligence community information is mostly inadmissible. Also remember in law enforcement you arrest and prosecute after the crime. So the crime has to be committed you have to absorb the attack and accept the damage and casualties first. (Tough noogies if its your friends and family!) GOP’ers tend to view it as a military and intelligence problem, you have a lot more latitude in your actions if you keep it in that realm. Meaning you have the option of hitting first rather then being hit. And using intel assets you might be able to hit first subtly, silently and surgically. (And hitting back in this way doesn't always mean killing people and breaking things!)

In my opinion if you are at the stage where you have to use violence to recover the initiative, you have already let it get too far out of the box. (I know sometimes its already out of the box before you know about it!) As the old Heinlein quote goes, "Violence is the last resort of the incompetent!"

[Clinton] ... did nothing in 1993 when the W.T.C. was first attacked.
He also did nothing when the Khobar Towers (housing AF personnel) was blown up in 1996.
He also did nothing when the USS Cole was blown up in 2000.
He also did nothing for all the years 9/11 was being planned right under his nose.
Notice a trend?

Yet she did create a barrier between the FBI and CIA sharing information. You are probably right about what was the most likely cause of 9/11.

And Bush ignoring warnings about 9/11 is a crock of BS. Yeah they had warning but none were specific enough to act on. Jamie Gorelicks treasonous policy was one of the reasons the Bush administration didn’t have anything specific to act on.

This from the same “paper of record” that is fine removing the first years budget from Obama’s record....and celebrating the executive order giving amnesty to all current Illegal Aliens that are between 16 and 30 while still in school or some form of vocational training...

Yep, that executive order would embrace all of the 911 hijackers.

No one missed any warning signs. We had about 10 of them, including a first run at bringing down the WTC towers and the Cole.

Our government simply ignored all of them....

How about placing the blame where it belongs, MSM. You dropped the ball on holding flaming tool John Kerry accountable for his role in preventing increased security at airports, specifically Boston. Never a peep out of you. Just one of your memory holes on this.

Some western minds do know the problem. In this case, the problem is Condi Rice. Her belief in the niceness of North Korea, and a belief that they would not tell a lie let them keep proliferating nuclear weapons to this day.

It's not like planes crashing into government buildings (via Kamekaze rather than jihadi) wasn't out there in the popular fiction. Clancy also had a plot line about attacking Wall Street. It takes a complete lack of imagination to not check popular fiction plot lines for possible threats when you believe we are in a state of war against terrorists.

Condi Rice could have been told directly about 9/11 plans by Bin Laden himself, and she would have thought it too fantastic to believe, and too inflammatory to bring to Bush. National Security Advisors are supposed to have a bit of paranoia about them. Condi can't seem to believe anything really bad about anybody.

North Korea had nuclear weapons long before Rice became Secretary of State and probably even before Bush took office. It was Madeline Halfbright who was naive about North Korea. President Bush included North Korea in the “Axis of Evil”, a position that Rice surely agreed with.

With regards to 9/11, Bush chose Rice as his NSA in part because she was an recognized expert on terrorism. She gave speeches on the threat of Islamic terrorism and I believe Bush even made it a campaign issue in 2000. During her first few months on the job she wrote a plan to go after Al Qaeda which was on President Bush's desk on 9/10/01 for his review.

This is true. Clinton should have actually been tried for treason and espionage. The reason he jets around with that poop eating grin on his face is he knows he screwed us all and not only got away with it but became rich while doing it. Bill and Hillary’s net worth when they moved into the White House was $42,000.00. Now they’re both multi-millionaires, where did it come from?

Re-read my post. I mentioned proliferation of nuclear weapons, which presupposes that N Korea had them to begin with.

Then, read Cheney's book. Towards the end he tells about Rice and the fumbling of the N Korea proliferation troubles. Lot's of people are considered experts, without actually being one. Rice is an academic, her real world track record isn't so great.
