Hijacked Airliner lands in Aftganistan..... what if???? (1999 FR thread excerpt)

Please forgive the vanity post, BUT I just had a terrible thought....I just heard that the hijacked airliner has landed in of all places, Aftganistan.... Is that not the home turf of Osama Bin Laden?? Remember the movie a few years back where terrorists hijacked a 747 with the intentions of crashing it into New York city or some other big city??? If Bin Laden wanted to creatate a major catastrophe, that would surely do it. I suppose the military could shoot it out of the sky, but how do they insure where it is going to land, or that they are shooting the right "passenger" plane down? Just one more question...I wonder why it is there has been no reason given by the hijackers for what they are doing? Don't hijackers usually spout off right away for the reasons behind their act?? Nothing will grow, Islam will stop spreading, their children will discontinue to laugh in the sunshine, a black cloud of death will hang over the Islamic nations. I think that what we have here is children seeking negative attention. They remind me of children running down to the surf, and as the waves roll in, retreatiing on the beach. This was late 1999 but I also remember in 2001, in the weeks leading up to 9/11 that this site was getting slammed by posts from all kinds of pro-palestinian pro-terrorist trolls, etc. It was like a horde of vicious moonbats had been unleashed.

Afroz also confirmed that two of the hijackers of the IC 814 Indian Airlines flight from Kathmandu to New Delhi in December 1999 were part of the team that underwent training in Australia. The New York Times has given details of evidence picked up in Kabul showing links between the IC 814 hijackers and the Taliban. The paper said four ticket stubs from the flight, two boarding passes, an Indian Airlines Airbus 300 safety procedure card and a handwritten list of the plane’s passengers were among those found in a hideout in Kabul. The hideout also had notes on nuclear and biological weapons.

piasa, there were plenty of warnings and plenty of warning signs three years out before the attacks. One of the problems was nobody could talk to another inside the agencies because of new laws (gorelick) and threats of imprisonment if data was shared, and then the thoughts of ... it can't happen here by the masses. We all learned a lesson on 911. May that lesson never have to be relearned again.

There was odd email spam before 9/11, too.

I always glance at my junk folder now before deleting each batch.

If only the good guys could have thought out of the box — like terrorists...maybe the course of history would have been different.

Unfortunately, terrorists in general and jihadis specifically are so full of hate; it’s hard to think like them and anticipate their next move.

If one could summarize the jihad hate factor in a generalized word nugget it would be: Create a global caliphate, global sharia law, kills Jews, and kill Christians.
