Four years ago this week, my daughter's 5th grade class took a poll and Obama led McCain in the Presidential race 14- 7. I knew this wasn't a good sign for McCain as even here in upstate NY the annual 5th grade class poll is as accurate as they come. They had picked the winner with almost 100% accuracy since FDR, when this highly scientific poll began (ha ha). They got in wrong with JFK, but my dad always claimed no, they got it right, just to many dead people were allowed to vote in Illinois.
Fast forward to yesterday. Daughter #2 is now a 5th grader in the same school district 5 generations of my family have attended, maybe more. I'm told school wide, the results were basically the same as my daughters class and Romney took the Poll 16-4 in her class. She told me her teacher acted upset and said "Why would so many of you choose Romney?"
Daughter #2 is not shy, was born and adopted from China, and pays attention. She said "I raised my hand and said my parents and I are sick of all these new taxes, spending and we don't like Obamacare. Barack Obama doesn't know what he's doing." My daughter said the teacher got mad, and said that Obama wasn't going to raise her taxes. My daughter said "Of course not, I don't have a job. But I saw my father's pay check and they take a lot of money out of it for no good reason. When I ask for a pack of gum my mom has to pay for it or I do. How can Obama keep giving away money without us having to pay it back?" and then also said "I was born in China, you all owe me, just kidding I'm an American!" The teacher, not happy, told her it was some one elses turn to talk. And then cut off the whole conversation when all the kids were talking to each other about taxes, and even if some didn't know what they were, they knew their parents didn't like them.
I have never called that Marxist usurper 'president', and I never will.
“Did some abstain, as I would have done?”
They probably only teach “safe” voting - abstinence not encouraged.
Because they want their daddies to have jobs so they can afford some clothes and new iPhones. Like, duh!
Will also be interesting that one bell weather city and which Halloween mask sells better.
Someone ALWAYS has to pander in some way to the RAT bastard communist pig muzzlim. How 'bout we call him by my favorite name, 0dumb0sh_t!!! That's what he really is. We are in a war against 0dumb0 and the socialist RAT bastard demoRATs, and the time for pandering to the dems & media is long past due. 0dumb0 doesn't deserve one ounce of respect for his deliberate atrocities that he has committed against the USA. It's time we fight back and take our country back, by force if necessary. Good for your daughter that she only called him 0bama. She could have clarified and called him Buruk Insane 0dumb0!
Good story. Thanks for sharing. You are doing a good job with your daughter too it seems. (:
Your daughter ROCKS! I see politics in her future for sure. Loved how she totally schooled that liberal teacher
That’s scary. Scholastic. I’m guessing that in some way they are “related” to the NEA.
I don’t personally call him president, but at 10, in a public school, I just think she needs to make her case respectfully.
She is blessed with charisma, so don't be so sure.
As we walked away, she said at least they're not voting for Obama, but how can they vote for a color? I had to explain that one.
We all do.
This reminds me of a story recounted by Frederica Mathewes-Greene:
My young nephew Thomas had been attending an Orthodox church with his dad for several months, and must have been impressed by an exclamation the priest makes at the turning point of the service. When the Scripture readings and sermon are concluded, the priest says, The doors! The doors! In wisdom, let us attend! In the ancient Church this signaled the deacon to shut the church doors behind departing nonmembers. From this point forward, the faithful would be entering into the holy mystery of the Eucharist. Only the baptized were allowed to remain.
In todays Orthodox churches no doors are shut and no one is scooted out of the building, but it still makes for a dramatic moment. So when Thomas saw a bumper sticker commemorating the rock band The Doors, he told his dad, That guy must be Orthodox!
Pro ing on e again that the majority of voters are not smarter than a 5th grader...
:-)
“I have never called that Marxist usurper ‘president’, and I never will.
Mega dittos!
God bless the little piker! Giving the teacher and education!
I have an adopted son and I did a good job with him also..
He went to a private college and on a bulletin board in his lab class he posted a sign of a ‘hot’ chick..and he made a sign that said..I'm a good Republican, with family values and I love nude beaches.’ came home and asked if I though he did a good job on that poster????? I still laugh about it...
Our grandkids 6 and 5 were at a public air show in MKE, WI and C-Span was there, handing out nice rulers with all the president’s pictures on one side. My grandson said “oh there’s President Obama - we don’t like him because he takes all mommy and daddy’s money”.....and my granddaughter, said - yah... that’s right! Our daughter was so proud of them and she said the other folks gathering around to get the free ruler were chuckling and laughing, too.
Great stuff from the mouths of babes. Well you must admit, those of us here in Wisconsin have been through the election battle for 18 months plus! We are ready to hand Wisconsin to Romney and our next VP Paul Ryan. Gotta work hard to make that happen.
Clever reply.
That’s funny! We’re Catholic and I’ve always been honest with my daughter and when she asked me if most Chinese people were Catholic, I told her no, they weren’t, and they weren’t Christian either. As a parent you expect perhaps a long drawn out, maybe even sad talk about why or why not. She just said “Well maybe THAT’S China’s problem!” and went back to riding her bike.
I hope your hard work pays off and Wisconsin goes Red!
