After years of being a member of Amazon.com, I just CLOSED MY AMAZON.COM ACCOUNT after they agreed to begin collecting sales taxes for this blood sucking state.
I'll continue online shopping from OUT OF STATE VENDORS and PAY ZERO state tax and get free shipping. I get what I want and Amazon.com and Calistan LOSE!
If your dumb enough to live in the state, your dumb enough to pay taxes.
Shame on you. Shop local! Keep you tax dollars, and jobs, in your community. If you don’t like California, then MOVE.
A few years back there was a case where Massachusetts (high sales tax) tried to force a company in neighboring New Hampshire (no sales tax) to assist Massachusetts in collecting sales tax from Massachusetts residents.In short,the effort failed miserably.
Oh well,to the Maoists currently running California it's all about the Benjamins.

My wife and I will spend out golden years traveling no matter what the price of gas. After 40 years together, she deserves that much from me.

The moment Amazon charges sales tax I will do as you are doing. The parasite class will only use the additional money to abuse us. Mostly they will just outright waste it.
I pray for the day that the bureaucratic parasite class will be forced to earn an honest day's pay in the private sector.
Why wait to short the stock?
I believe they have an office here. They’d be better off firing everyone and letting the fire department burn it for fun.

That’s right, Amazon didn’t have any other choice. CA is a big state that they couldn’t afford not to have a presence in, and the Lib, Dem State forced them into it as they are so desperate for more money to fill their coffers for more social spending and the state is broke. It’s for the children, you know.
Meanwhile, there is more than one way to skin a cat. Amazon needs more warehouses for their goods, so they will now open new ones in CA where they are stuck having to pay the sales tax anyway (Amazon, like all other big box/catalog businesses have to collect sales taxes in states where they have a physical presence). So, Amazon may as well make use of CA for their warehouse facilities now that they are stuck collecting sales tax there, and at least get something out of it. Actually, this will work to the benefit of the high amount of unemployed population in CA as at least some of them can now get jobs at the new warehouses, as well as the new construction of them producing jobs too.
I think that shorting Amazon is the right thing to do, as great a company they are - this surrender will definitely affect their sales. The states are greedy and still broke.

No need to be snippy with me. I didn't ask for anything. I don't come to FR looking for headlines that I subsequently have to research on the Internet. It's nice to find the story after a headline.
Since you brought it up, however, why didn't you simply post the story in the first place? You could have included your rant as a comment, instead of a vanity post self-described as "breaking news."
In Massachusetts...and,I'll wager,*most* states with a sales tax...the sales tax's official title is "sales and use" tax.Under Massachusetts tax law anything you buy anywhere that would incur sales tax in the state must be declared on your state income tax return and at that time you pay the 6.25%.Of course,with no sales tax New Hampshire right next door and with Amazon and similar companies very few residents declare such purchases.

I’ve been perfectly happy with Amazon not having presence here. I can wait (for the delivery) and haven’t had to wait long. If the local businesses sold at a discount, I’d buy from them, but I’ve been buying my photo and hifi equipment for decades from places like New York City, presumably high rent districts (42st Street Photo, for example), while the local dealers justified their high prices by their supposedly high rents, a least until the Hindu owned stores opened up here.

That’s your right. But it sure seems that the day is coming when online sales will be taxed just like any other, and I can see the equity in that. Online businesses consume public services just like brick-and-mortar businesses do, so why shouldn’t they pay their “fair share” (gawd how I hate that term!)
