Three U.S. congressmen and a top-level government official attended the opening of the Church of Scientology’s National Office in Washington, D.C., Thursday.

Their attendance marked a significant endorsement from members of a government that was once partially at war with the organization.

Lawmakers in attendance were Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Indiana Republican Rep. Dan Burton and Illinois Democratic Rep. Danny Davis. Liz Gibson, Senior Program Manager at the Federal Emergency Management Agency was also in attendance.

Jackson Lee applauded the organization.

“I want to thank L. Ron Hubbard for recognizing that courage is not rewarded but it is valued,” said the congresswoman. L. Ron Hubbard was the church’s founder.

And Dan Burton was there for what reason?
To nail down that Indiana Scientology vote maybe?
Or he is just partial to fruitcakes?

again I ask the rhetorical question,’Why do we give such idiots political office?’

The reason is obvious for Shelia Jackson Lee but a GOP’er?

Is there something in the water in DC that starts draining intellect after they are sworn into office.

Any constituents of Burton who are on this site ought to be on the phone questioning his judgment! They ought to call into his vote melts!

I can’t believe this isn’t satire. Scientology is all about taking suckers’ money.
(But, come to think of it, that’s what our “government” is about too.)

Our Congress has been taken over by lunatics and freaks. Sort of like the Russian Duma pre War World I.

I once had a client who had pumped over $17,000 into Scientology (in the 1970s). She had lived a truly horrible life, and gotten some help with the regressive work they do. I also learned some useful skills from her. However, their “E meter” is totally unnecessary to track a person’s responses. I also once was helping someone who had gone into a state of near unconsciousness after remembering a brutal childhood rape. I called the Scientology folks and got some useful advice to continue helping them. I knew they had a term called “burning off unconsciousness” which I suspected I was seeing.

On the other hand, they do have an extremely exploitive economic policy, and their “religion” is truly bizarre, with people supposedly invaded by “ghosts” of alien invaders from the past. Google for more weird details.

Here is why:

50% of Americans pay no Federal income tax,
The Dems/Obama promises welfare, food stamps, disability, union payoffs, etc.

Congress has mutated from principled people to being for sale to the highest bidder (who ever promises the most freebies).

Lee and Davis are both Marxists are probably get $$$ from Scientology in exchange for something.

Burton is a complete fool.

Look at Mahoney from NYC. She screams about Wall Street, then takes their money and votes with them.

Washington is like Chicago. Corrupt Democratic machine.

Just went there (never heard of it, went for your mention) and apparently youtube has pulled every video they linked.

So many celebrities (and their money)... what is up with this ridiculous ‘religion?’

The e-meter does nothing more then measure skin resistivity.
It's basically a polygraph with two sensors missing (blood pressure and breathing rate)

I question what “help” they can actually provide?

No idea why Burton would be there. I know why the others are there: Nation of Islam has embraced Scientology,

and that translates into much influence in the black communities.

Illinois should be proud.

It seems a bit disingenuous to differentiate between cults, based on which cult your current political leader is or is not a bishop of.

Just sayin-

Dan Burton is belongs to the anti-vaccine movement and he bought into that cool aid crap hook line and sinker. So therefore he fits right in with gullible Scientologists.
