Friend Leaning Democratic--Need Input on the History of Job Creation to Help Change His Mind

Posted on 09/21/2012 6:01:23 AM PDT by austen

A friend of mine in Florida recently let me know that he is inclined to vote Democratic largely on the basis of Bill Clinton's claim (at the Democratic convention) that since 1961, Democrats have created more private sector jobs than Republicans. He is asking for information that would help him to see the bigger picture, and to understand how job creation works. Any articles, graphs, and other sources would be much appreciated!

Iam sure on some Federal Registry there is a list of numbers and years.

I would remind your friend to check the numbers for Spot’s first two years with Congress in the hands of Demonrats and the numbers when the Republicans took control with their contract with america plan. Which Included Welfare reform that Spot Veto’d twice and then signed it just before the 96 election because the polls showed it hurting him badly.

In general economy grew more under Dems than Reps. the GDP growth
rate.

The 1960s were dems -—demographics the Baby Boomers.
CLinton had the dot com bubble run up. There are a lot of reasons why
the economy will grow. Some are bad, like bubbles.

President Clinton had the lowest spending of fed. govt. 19% of GDP
of ANYONE IN RECENT INCLUDING REPUBLICANS.
However, OBAMA has 24-25% of GDP.

So tell your friend Obama has exploded spending to 25% of GDP
and he is not proposing a 19% GDP. He wants more “investment.”
Clinton also balanced a budget with REpub House. Can you imagine oblama?

Obama deficits: 1.6 trillion, 1.5 trillion, 1.3 trillion, 1.3 trillion.

Don’t waste your time ... a choice of Romney versus obama is based on a person’s long help Principles relating to morality, an understanding of the U.S. Constitution, an understanding of the basic principles of liberty and freedom... Job figures and economic conditions are all secondary to that. No person possessing a set of well established principles could vote for obama and you are not going to instill such principles in your friend in the time left before the election

During the election cycle of 1992, George H.W. Bush lost his job after Bill Clinton hammered him relentlessly for having caused the “worst economy of the last 50 years.”

In fact, as CNN’s Brooke Jackson has reported: “Three days before Christmas 1992, the National Bureau of Economic Research finally issued its official proclamation that the recession had ended 21 months earlier. What became the longest boom in U.S. history actually began nearly two years before Clinton took office.” See (See http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/10/31/jackson.recession.primer.otsc/).

By the same token, Clinton is generally perceived as having a stellar economic record during his own presidency, in spite of the fact that the economy was already starting to decline during the last year of his term after the stock market crashed in March 2000.

According to a report by MSNBC: “The longest economic expansion in U.S. history faltered so much in the summer of 2000 that business output actually contracted for one quarter, the government said Wednesday in releasing a comprehensive revision of the gross domestic product. Based on new data, the Commerce Department said that the GDP — the country’s total output of goods and services — shrank by 0.5 percent at an annual rate in the July-September quarter of 2000.” See: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3676690/ns/business-stocks_and_economy/t/gdp-figures-revised-downward/.

Ask your friend to go back to 1961 as his baseline to see what JFK did to start the job growth: cut taxes! Then you can feed him a steaming bowl of STFU about Demos = job growth. LBJ quickly brought that to an end by trying to have guns and butter while only growing inflation.

Look at job creation against who controlled Congress at the time, and a much clearer picture emerges. Presidents have very little to do except stay out of the way, which Clinton managed to do during the Internet Boom of the 90’s.

Tell him to look at what Democrats have done to California. Before Jerry Brown’s daddy was governor, California was a conservative state, had the best education system (all grade levels)in America and was the fastest growing state economy.

Look at it now. IS this what anyone (with a brain) would want for America?

Forgeddabout the abstract reasoning of jobs, economy, growth. They fly right over a demoKaRATZ head. And they have been spun to tatters.

Stick to REAL HARD NUMBERS that even a knucklehead knows and understands.

KISS!!!

GET IN HIS FACE AND CHANT: PRICE OF GAS, PRICE OF FOOD.

Do this repeatedly until he gets mad.

Then ask him: gas was about $2 under Bush, what did YOU pay for a gallon today? Then add insult to injury: a steak was about $3 bux when that Evil Bush was prez, how much did YOUR steak (eggs, butter, milk... you get the picture) cost you today?

Just keep repeating the mantra, it’s the ONLY way to break the rocks in a knucklehead’s head.

This even works on welfare queens who ride Da Buss and don’t care about gas. Hey queenie, your food stamps stretchin to the end of the month or you coming up short?

Be prepared for blank looks and stuttering.
